One of the Best Games Ever Released

If you have a Wii U you need this game. In my opinion its the best game on the system period. If you cant get your hands on a Switch to play its Switch Port, I think its worth buying a second hand/refurbished Wii U just to get this game (not to mention a dozen other AAA Wii U exclusives). Even if I had a Switch, for the forseeable future the Wii U arguably has a much better lineup of released games and as I said before, Zelda Breath of the Wild is reason enough to get the platform. If you own a Wii U, you owe it to yourself to get it. Best of all, If you are in the Best Buy gaming club you get 20% off the sticker price. Dont miss out on this gem. I ordered this from Best Buy's website and no issues at all. It was delivered: sealed, before the estimated delivery date and in perfect condition.

I have played a lot of Zelda games in different gaming console and this is yet the best Zelda game I have played thus far. I like the freedom to move anywhere I want to, but I find some bosses are very difficult to beat earlier in the game when you don't have enough hearts and weapons are not as powerful yet. I didn't have to buy "switch" since I only have time to play when I'm at home anyways, so the Wii-U worked just fine. Thank you!!

I guess, in the end, it’s not just that Breath of the Wild signals that Zelda has finally evolved and moved beyond the structure it’s leaned on for so long. It’s that the evolution in question has required Nintendo to finally treat its audience like intelligent people. That newfound respect has led to something big, and different, and exciting. But in an open world full of big changes, Breath of the Wild also almost always feels like a Zelda game — and establishes itself as the first current, vital-feeling Zelda in almost 20 years.

I don’t even know what to say. If I could give negative stars I would. When the package came in the mail, I wrapped it as it came and put it right under the Christmas tree. I figured the extra postage wrap added layer of fun unwrapping. This morning my son opened and was so excited to see the Legend of Zelda game. He opened the case, and there was no legend of Zelda, just a silver blank DVD-R. What??? My husband and I just looked at each other in shock. My other kids thought we were joking around. No joke, although it felt like one on me. So disappointing. My son was in tears. Awesome Christmas! I don’t know what happened in their fulfillment center, but this was not okay. Even the game book was missing and in it’s place was a “viewing the game manual”. So so disappointing! Hoping Best Buy will make it right

I've been playing on my Wii U for a week now and am still amazed at this game. It's Zelda's first true open world experience. Nothing is linear. You can literally go anywhere. Climb any mountain. I've put in a few hours most days and haven't touched even 25% of the map. I have yet to do a main dungeon (keep getting distracted) but have done a bunch of shrines (which have really nice puzzles in their own right). The only small annoyances are the controls are a little cumbersome. Nintendo does not follow a typical control scheme (they're "confirm" button is "a", which is located at the "O" position when compared to PlayStation, for example) and they're not very customizable. Fully customizable control scheme would be nice. I also cannot toggle the z targeting system. You must hold the button down. Lastly, weapons break often. I understand weapon damage (I'm not new to this game type), but with this game it's too quick and they're not repairable. But other than that the game is great. The open world is huge (seems larger than Fallout) and I have yet to experience any form of a glitch. The amount of things to do is numerous and you can do any of it whenever you want. There are many nods to games past as well- some more subtle than others (still can't figure out where it sits in the timeline). This is a great direction for the franchise. The game also doesn't hold your hand (no Navi, tetra, or lion boat guiding you), which a huge departure for Zelda of late and it's welcome. If you pay attention you don't need it. Nintendo has done a fine job of giving you ways to track your progress without explicitly saying "go here and do this.". Definitely recommend.

One of the reasons I bought the WiiU was to play the newest Zelda game. After waiting what seems like an eternity I finally got to play the game that was promised 4 years ago. Fortunately, the game does not disappoint. "Zelda: Breath of the Wild" gets back to the very roots of the Zelda franchise: open world exploration, fun combat, and puzzle filled dungeons. The game combines some of the best elements of its early entries with lessons learned from other games to form a masterpiece. The exploration is similar to Ocarina of Time but much more open and interactive. You can climb just about everything to get to where you are going, you can glide around in your paraglider to get to difficult spots, you can swim to a number of areas, and, of course, you can ride a horse to various places. While you are traversing the world you get to hunt for food, forage for mushrooms, salvage rusted out ruins, and gather a plethora of ingredients to make meals and elixirs to help you on your journey. Cooking is as much a part of the game as exploring and fighting moblins, and it is rewarding discovering recipes and finding those chase ingredients. Combat is fun if slightly frustrating at times. The controls can be a little tricky as you are getting used to them (for example, clicking the left thumbstick will make you crouch, so if you are too hard on the controls when fleeing sometimes you'll find yourself crouching instead of running). However, they are mostly familiar as they are similar to other 3D Zelda games and you will likely get into a rhythm quickly. At the beginning combat involves some fun tricks, like pushing a boulder on top of enemies, or shooting explosives near bad-guys to make them go boom, and these are quite satisfying. As the game progresses and enemies' healthbars go up, these tricks don't work quite the same, but the game gives you other tools (mostly runes which you use to interact with your environment) to deal with powerful foes. "Breath of the Wild" adds breakable weapons, which means that you can't rely on your trusty fairy-sword anymore. You need to be constantly picking up clubs, swords, spears, pitchforks, and whatever else you can get your hands on because your stuff WILL break and you need to have spares. This adds a bit of intensity to combat as you will have to change weapons (easily using options in the HUD) in the middle of the fight. However, if you manage to find the famed Master Sword, it will be a permanent weapon that will only need to recharge every couple of encounters. There are over 100 hidden shrines (like mini-dungeons) which you can do at your leisure as you pick your way through the story. They provide you with ways to increase your hearts or stamina. They have the typical Zelda puzzles: burning things, pushing things, moving things, blowing things up in order to move through them. They are still satisfying and unquestionably Zelda-esque. There are also strength trials that pit you against powerful foes in combat. They can be difficult, but are incredibly rewarding. The boss dungeons are good puzzles with challenging villains that evoke the feelings of previous Zelda games. In terms of graphics, the game is stunningly beautiful, even on the older WiiU. The character models are bright and detailed. The world feels lived in and real, as if it really does have a history. The landscapes are amazing, made more so by the fact that you can climb on them and interact with them: they aren’t just backdrops. A great game that I would recommend to everyone from Zelda diehards to newbies just breaking into the franchise. Fans of puzzles, exploration, and hack-n-slash will all find something to love about this game

So if you haven't already heard, this game is brilliant. The exploration, the combat, the story, the secrets. Everything that has been important in Zelda has been revamped and rexploded, in incredible ways. And beyond that, there's never been an open world game that's just so polished. Get this game. Frame rate issues are more apparent on the Wii U but they really don't significantly attract from the game's value.

Definitely reminds me of the way I felt when I played Ocarina of Time. I can't wait to keep exploring the world, which is huge, BTW. The ONLY gripes I have are weapons that break and frame rate issues in villages. I actually don't mind weapon durability, it's just they break too quickly. I can't go through a whole fight (with multiple enemies) without a weapon breaking. That's frustrating knowing that you found something cool but will only last a fight or two. The Master Sword is the only exception because it only needs to be recharged after a while. The Zora Trident breaks but can be fixed with some materials (which can be cumbersome). Other than that huge gripe, the game is fantastic. Exploring the world is exciting and I think the travel time between areas is just right. In Wind Waker sailing between islands could take a really long time and became somewhat tedious and no longer fun to find new places. I don't think it's a perfect game but it is very exciting and adventurous. Finding new things addicting. I would definitely recommend Breath of the Wild and it's a great example of why games are fun.

This game has an expansive open-world, that one can easily accumulate many hours into. The game-play is refreshing and engaging, and several tactics and strategies are viable in this game. The Wii U version is apparently different than the Switch version in regards to resolution and sound quality, but it does not majorly impact the experience of the game.

Great game one the switch, Wii U has a few issues

Differences Wii U version compared to Switch: The core experience is the same just some technical issues that doesn't make it the definitive version of the game like: -Slightly lower resolution -Slower loading. Dying can result in 5-10second loading screen which is maybe half of that or less on the Switch version -Lower Audio Quality -Requires a mandatory 3gb install Wished the Wii U version have duel screen/gamepad compatibility (like in Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD) to make it stand out from the Switch version, but it doesn't which is very disappointing. Overall if you can deal with the loading times for the most part, you are essentially getting the same experience. Now onto the Review: Like how 'Zelda Link Between Worlds' harken back to 'Zelda Link to the Past' in the 2D games, Zelda Breath of the Wild goes back to the open world design of the original Legend of Zelda (although technically not a 3D game). The game is very open world. You can just rush though and go to your main objective, but there's a lot of side quests and detours along the way to detract you from saving the world. Also without upgrades along the way it's a very hard game to beat, unless you're a very skilled gamer. So for those who like more linear games and do not like to exploring or crafting then this game may be a bit off putting. This game has a lot of resource management involved in terms of stamina, weapon/inventory management, weather and health. Weapons are breakable in this game so you are not able to hold onto an attack item or shield for the duration of the game. Crafting is involved for some weapons. Items are easy to come by, but will not be the same for every play session, so a great conversation piece when comparing experiences with your friends. The weapon variety is amazing, even if you break a weapon, you are able to obtain another one from a fallen enemy making a enemy defeat a satisfying victory. Not everything is expendable as there are some permanent upgrades you gain in your adventure Inventory management is a bit troublesome especially if you're used to the gamepad screen in Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD and you have to scroll through menus instead of a simple blind press(if you know where the weapon/item is), but is is manageable Enemies in the game do a lot of damage. You have to get used to the battle animations of most enemies. It's not Dark Souls hard, but some trail and error is required especially if you go against enemies that does high damage. The checkpoint system is forgivable though. The world is very massive and you can go anywhere in the world with no invisible walls. There's also mini dungeons or shines sprinkled through the mass landscape so there's a lot to do. There's a sense of wonder and discovery as you learn as you go instead of the game hand holding you through it The 4 main dungeons does not have keys like in past Zelda games, instead you have to manipulate your surroundings to progress which is a nice change in the series and feels more life like/realistic Overall very good game if you're the explorer type and like to learn game mechanics as you go.

[4.5 / 5 stars] (rounded up to 5 on the Best Buy scale) This is a great new entry in the Zelda series. It draws on a mix of gameplay mechanics that worked well in past Zelda games and brings them into a fresh open-world experience. Gameplay is great. I love that this game rewards curiosity and experimentation. There are a lot of different ways you can approach combat, for example. You can creatively use tools and the environment to deal with enemies, or you can rush in for a close-quarters brawl if you wish. Most of the time, if you ask yourself "I wonder if this will work...?", it usually will - and it's awesome! It's very fun to experiment with different creative ways to solve problems. The combat itself is challenging, especially at the beginning. You can easily encounter enemies that are vastly more powerful than you and can one-shot you. The swordplay is similar to Wind Waker but I find the timing for perfect dodges/parries more difficult than Wind Waker, which is a good thing because I think the Wind Waker swordplay was too easy. The swordplay in Breath of the Wild, thankfully, has a little bit more of a learning curve to it, and I find to be more satisfying than past titles. Weapons do degrade and break, and it seems like this has drawn a mixed reaction from people. Personally, I love the weapons system because it keeps you constantly scavenging for weapons and forces you to be creative and strategic in combat situations. It creates fun situations - for instance, in dire situations you might have to race monsters to pick up the last weapon on the field before they do! And never fear, you can find some special weapons that can be rebuilt after they break, and the Master Sword never breaks. The world is huge, and beautiful. There are many different biomes to explore and many things to encounter. I am very deep into the game and still find something new virtually every time I sit down to play. There are some graphical issues. Draw distance is very poor for a modern game, resolution is relatively low for a modern game, and there are frequent frame rate drops. However, these don't ultimately hinder the enjoyment of the game at all, at least not for me. The world is so awesome and fun it was easy for me to overlook the graphical drawbacks. I'm playing on the Wii U version and can say I have felt no reason whatsoever that I might have missed out on something by not getting the Switch version. The game is perfectly fine on the Wii U. One last thing I will say is that the main story and dungeons seem weaker to me than past titles, but again I didn't mind this so much because the world as a whole is so fun to explore. This is a Zelda game in which you can almost write your own story with all the fun you will have adventuring out in the vast wilderness! Highly recommended to past Zelda fans and newcomers alike, I think this is easily one of the funnest games out on the market right now.

This game is getting a lot of top reviews. The game is really good. The world is HUGE and there is lots to explore. The combat mechanics are very good. I like how the game does not hold your hand, and you are free to explore. It's fun going into new areas, which all seem diverse enough to be interesting. Realistically, there are some down sides. First, the frame rate drops to the point it's distracting. Second, the game uses fog a lot, but it comes across as making up for the lack of power in the console itself. Third, this game is fairly repetitive. You go find a tower, climb to the top to reveal the area, the you look for shrines to get runes, which let you level up your character. Fourth, there are side quests, but I wish there were more of them because they're what breaks up the repitition. Fifth, and worst of all, the the weapons break ridiculously fast. I may fight two or three enemies before a weapon breaks and you have to switch weapons. It breaks up the combat and gives some tension, but it starts to get REALLY annoying. Overall, this games strengths outweigh its weaknesses. I would suggest getting it on the Wii U at the moment if you have it. The graphics comparison between the Wii U and the Switch are nearly identical. Save yourself $300+ and get it on Wii U while waiting for the Switch to build its library of games.

Best Zelda game of all time

Let me start out by saying that Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendos most revered, most complete, and more extraordinary games to have come out in recent years ..With all of the original Zelda comparisons...in some years Breath of The Wild may be considered one of the best games of our generation. Im lucky enough to have had my childhood experience with the original..and also played Ocarina of Time. Previously, Ocarina of Time was my favorite Zelda, but now Breath of the Wild takes that crown. The combination of original the Zelda's open style go anywhere gameplay...with modern combat that includes magic, projectiles, sword play , and use of the environments creates an amazing masterpiece. Breath of the Wild has massive environments that may appear barren at times, but as you play, you will discover treasures, secret areas, shrines, and stumble upon mini bosses. The most rewarding gameplay mechanic is that the game allows you to explore and discover various things. The player can discover small towns, enemy encampments and even areas that not only have mini bosses but an actual boss. The game does have several side missions, but it does not bog you down with mundane fetch quests. The player truly can literally go anywhere in the game. What I loved about this is that I did go out and take on enemies that were to strong for me and encountered bosses that were too challenging at first, but was able to escape the area and discovered some shrines and cooked different items to become stronger / level up and then came back to the area with more knowledge of combat and strength. The shrines feature numerous puzzles that require you to use link's abilities as well as combat tests that truly teach you how to play the game better. The voice acting may be out of place at times and some characters may not leave a lasting impression. For the most part, the main characters and a few side characters are great additions to the story. The story is not revolutionary, but it does get the job done. The art style is great but definitely hides some issues very cleverly. There is beauty to be seen with some breathtaking moments. The frame rate does dip low in some areas , but this doesn't negate the marvelous experience of playing one of the best games created by Nintendo. This is one game that every gamer should experience playing.

This game is everything you imagined when you were younger playing on your game boy. The game is your basic Zelda game taken to a new level with an open world. When the creators said you could go anywhere - they really meant it - walk straight across the world walking, running, on horse back, swimming, gliding, climbing, etc. The map is gigantic, and if you enjoy peaking under every rock for treasure, this game will give you endless enjoyment. For those that are into RPGs that like to gratification as time passes, this may be a bit bothersome. Levels are not gained - only new powers as you collect items. Weapons and tools break after being used. Travel can take quite a long time when not using instant travel. But the game is gorgeous and you definitely get all the feels.

I've never been a huge fan of Zelda, there are only about 2 or 3 games from the franchise as a whole that I truly enjoyed and now I can count this one among them. This is the best game I've played in this franchise so far and the best open world game I've played in general, it has almost everything that I could've wanted out of one too like actual meaningful exploration thats not just moving your character through empty wastelands (or cities in some cases) of space with nothing of note happening besides some random enemy camps to take down in order to fill out a check list. Everything that you see in this game can be gotten to and there is always something of interest waiting for you there along with something else catching your eye too. The controls are for the part really good but there are some annoyances here and there, like the jump and run buttons being on opposite sides of the button layout and the game doesn't have any good options to rectify this (no re-bindable control option either) so it takes a bit of getting used to. While I like the combat in the game I think it could've done with some complex techniques that could be used by learning the inputs for them (ala castlevania symphony of the night) so that the player could have advanced techniques to use from the get go but for new players they would have to search out in the world and learn the techniques through special means. Overall, besides some minor problems I have with it this game is perfection, I'd highly recommend it to anyone that wants a good adventure game where the adventure part actually means something.

After spending nearly 70 hours in this game, I can say it has dethroned Zelda: Ocarina of Time for me. It is really tempting to say this is the best video game I have ever played. That is coming from someone who owns all the systems and buys almost every game that comes out. This game is fantastic. It is the true meaning of an epic adventure game. The world is yours as you play as Link waking up from a 100 year slumber after a disaster befell the land of Hyrule. You will piece together your memories while exploring a humongous map, solving puzzle shrines for power ups, doing sidequests, fighting a huge variety of monsters while getting ready for your showdown with Gannon. You can literally go anywhere in this game with the climbing ability. Climbs walls, mountains, rocks, hills, houses. Nothing stands in your way, no invisible walls. It is amazing. You will get sucked into this adventure and just want to keep exploring as you are always finding new areas, or a new weapon you want to try. Some cons are that weapons break after use, but this causes you to try new ones as you find them. The world is open from the start so you can go anywhere you want, when you want, which might be overwhelming for some people looking for a more linear Zelda experience. This game is mind blowing, so give it a shot for sure!
