The Thrustmaster eSwap XR Pro Controller is a high-end modular controller for Xbox and PC gamers. It features a number of unique features, including swappable thumbsticks, d-pads, triggers, and grips, as well as a racing wheel attachment. The eSwap XR Pro Controller is well-built and feels solid in the hand. The plastic shell is sturdy and there is no creaking or flexing when squeezing the controller tightly. The controller is also comfortable to hold for extended periods of time. The grips are textured and provide a good grip, even when your hands are sweaty. The modular design of the eSwap XR Pro Controller is one of its most appealing features. The thumbsticks, d-pad, triggers, and grips can all be swapped out with different modules to customize the controller to your liking. This is a great feature for gamers who want to fine-tune their controller for specific games or genres. The racing wheel attachment is a unique feature of the eSwap XR Pro Controller. It allows you to use the controller as a racing wheel in compatible games. The racing wheel attachment is well-made and feels sturdy. It also has a good range of motion and provides a realistic racing experience. The eSwap XR Pro Controller performs well in all games that I have tested it on. The thumbsticks and d-pad are responsive and accurate. The triggers are also responsive and have a good amount of travel. The racing wheel attachment is also responsive and provides a good racing experience.
Overall
The Thrustmaster eSwap XR Pro Controller is a high-end modular controller that offers a number of unique features. The build quality is excellent, the controller is comfortable to hold, and the performance is top-notch. I play a few racing games on my PC and Xbox and wanted to invest in a well-built controller with ways to customize it. After some search online and reading through some forums, I decided to take a look at ESWAP XR PRO CONTROLLER FORZA HORIZON 5 EDITION (a mouthful I know, however so worth it!)
First of all, to all who are wondering, it is a very comfortable controller to hold and play with for many hours. Secondly, whoever came up with swappable modules on this thing, big kudos! ESWAP XR PRO CONTROLLER FORZA HORIZON 5 EDITION includes RACING WHEEL module, two mini-sticks and a D-pad. I really enjoyed the Racing Wheel module, with it you will definitely experience full control with maximum immersion (thanks to its re-centering system), also 95 degree rotating angle will help you in your turns and drifts, control of your trajectories as you play any racing game.
The mechanical buttons are so responsive too, I did not experience any lag compared to my older controller with a membrane-based buttons.
Now if you are into configuring of your controller even more, you will be in for a treat. You can easily adjust the sensitivity and other settings of the mini-sticks, Racing Wheel module and the triggers with the ThrustmapperX software. What's great is when you insert Racing Wheel module, the D-pad inputs are automatically assigned to the rear buttons (1, 2, 3, 4). The software called ThrustmapperX is available for Windows, and accessible directly via the Xbox menu.
This is an awesome gaming accessory, worth of your investment and enjoyment.

I have not had much experience with thrustmaster racing wheels or 3rd party controllers in general. I usually stick to what was designed for the original gaming counsol due to what is comfortable. When I reviewed this product I was reminded of that one thing. Besides that, and I know that reason is subjective, I think this is a great product. I love the quality of the controller. the way it feels in your hand. The magnetic design for the "hot swap" parts of the controller is very simple and effective. The racing wheel is a cool thing. I did not find any gaming/racing advatange using it over a normal joystick on a controller but I wont hate on them for trying something. I do not think this is a cash grab either. The engineers took their time designing a good controller with a neat feature that is supported in forza 5. I do find myself wanting to use this controller more and more as I get used to it. I love all the buttons you assign function on the back. I love that they include the short throw triggers if you are into competitive shooting games where you dont want that milisecond delay to fully press in the trigger on the pad. Overall it is a great product. is it worth it? That is subjective and up to the end user. If this was my only controller. yes it is worth it. I can get new joysticks as the old ones wear out. I like it a lot.

The Thrustmaster seemed like a great controller when I unboxed it. The premium feeling down to the braided cable. However after use the main strengths make the game harder to play.
So the physical controller is bigger than the standard Xbox controller so of you have smaller hands this is not the product for you. Next onto the magneticly swappable steering wheel, d-pad and joystick. I liked the thought of playing Forza would be more realistic with the wheel over the joy stick. However in use it was just to easy to over steer and spend more time trying to get the car going straight that I found myself moving to the joystick. There are plenty of buttons that can also be programmed to say have the gas/brake in different places or the clutch. However it made me a slower driver. Ultimately what lead me to losing interest in the controller was the proprietary braided cable. My system is 15’ away from the couch so wireless is a must and since the connection cannot be swapped out I felt like this was a missed opportunity for the price point. However on other games using as a standard controller. I felt more precision on the joysticks and found it more responsive on nba 2k24, madden 24, Fortnite. This still feels very much like a gen 1 product. If they add wireless and maybe make a bigger wheel then there could be some more positive things for me to feel like it makes my game play better.

Now this was someone thinking outside the box! I usually do not playing racing games with a controller because I am terrible at it. With this controller I looked like someone who can actually play a road game and not crash the car every few minutes because I can't control it properly without a huge steering wheel rig. This controller isn't that heavy and is comfortable in my hands. Love the fact that it is modular. Had to get used to the buttons on the bottom and I really like the fact that I can adjust the depth of the movement of the triggers. You can create different profiles which comes in handy if you play different types of games or have multiple folks using the same controller.
There is one thing I can think of that was a real pain in the butt and that is the cable. It has a weird end on it that is not fun trying to use. I almost pitched it in the garbage I got so frustrated trying to plug it in. Not a deal breaker but be patient. Once its in you'll never want to unplug it again.

THIS… Is the Thrustmaster - eSwap XR Pro in the Forza Horizon Edition and it is a really interesting, quirky remote with a deep focus on swappable parts and racing games. When I first took hold of this controller I was quite excited as it reminded me of my first Xbox Elite controller with how everything popped out and was able to be swapped around, just with more degree of configuration with the Thrustmaster controller. What is unique about the Thrustmaster - eSwap controller is its ability to hotswap the D pad (or any of the thumb sticks as well) to a racing wheel module that allows you to take better control of your cars drifts and steering in games like Forza and need for speed all the way to games like GTA, and then swap back the d-pad or thumb stick when you don’t need it anymore. This is also a more competitive controller, having a 64% faster response time when clicking the buttons on the eSwap X R Pro than your usual membrane based buttons. With all these features and technical specs stacking up… lets take a look at Thrustmasters - eSwap XR Pro and see if it is the real deal!
Racing Wheel Module
====================
Lets cut straight into what we are all here for, the racing wheel module. It is quite interesting and I have to say, I instantly fell in love. I found it significantly easier to throttle my cars through the apex of turns using the racing wheel over a thumb stick, and found that I was not only faster lap overlap… but also faster in just about every car and on every track and terrain. The Racing wheel module allows up to 95 degrees of articulation and also recenters itself which was a big plus. Beyond the racing wheel, the included thumb sticks were also a step up over my standard xbox controller that I had been using for forza on my PC, but only for racing games due to their reduced size. They are slightly smaller and somewhat easier to grip onto with my thumbs, I also appreciate that they are easily replaceable as I sometimes wear out my thumbsticks from picking, itching and just generally being rough on my controllers. I am 100% sold on the features and benefits of the racing wheel module and I can’t believe I went this whole time without it.
Build Quality
============
This is where things start to taper off and I start to question myself here. This controller is $180 MSRP but feels just as, if not cheaper than my $60 xbox remote. The plastic feels thin, the buttons feel cheap and it just really doesn't feel like a nice quality product. When you pick up an elite controller or another ~$200 controller, you can feel that you spent a lot of money on the controller and that just isn’t present here with the eSwap X R Pro.
Functions/Button Mapping
=====================
This controller, like many others is highly customizable and has a few quirks a features. One thing is, that it must be wired at all times. The included cable was a very nice braided cable, however, it is micro usb which was somewhat of a disappointment. Outside of the cable, at the bottom of the remote you can connect your headphones via a 3.5mm jack AND can adjust the volume up, down and mute it right on the bottom of the controller. I really liked this feature and really enjoyed being able to turn the music down on a whim and without having to pick up my TV remote or use my keyboard. Also on the bottom of the controller is the player profiles to change the button mapping for the back of the controller, which has 4 mappable buttons with complimentary trigger locks located above them. All the buttons, triggers and more can be customized to your liking in the Thrustmaster software, and I found it quite easy and intuitive to use.
Conclusion
=============
I don't want to sit here and say this is a gimmick, the racing wheel module is quite fun to use and at times can be significantly better than a controller for racing games. I also see its spot in the market, it is way better than a controller for racing, able to be swapped to a semi racing controller for when you are racing, and isn't a huge steering wheel on your desk or store away somewhere else when you aren’t. I am just quite disappointed in the cheap plastic and lack of good rubber grips. I found myself wiping my hands off from time to time after a couple of hours playing forza as the remote just feels cheap to the touch and lacked any real way to deal with my palms sweat. Beyond construction, the rear facing buttons were at times, quite hard to reach. Accurately pressing the correct button consistently - especially in the heat of the race, was almost impossible. I have seen other remotes incorporate paddles that are significantly more effective and reliably pressed. One last issue that I had was that it was quite hard to pull the D pad out from the controller, however, this is mostly on me as I just dont have the nails to do it - but still… I wish they made it easier for the people that have nubs lol. I am actually really happy that Thrustmaster has made this product, and I really think that a redesign of the controller to solve these issues would really make this the perfect hybrid controller for those that love to race and then also play other games. I ordered a rubber grip set for it and I personally think that will solve most of my immediate issues with the controller, however, for the price it is something I just expect. I think that, while these issues are present, this product is still at its core, a great product and most people who pick this up will still have a great time with it as I have had… I just was left wanting more. Thats why this is an awesome product to try from BestBuy! Because as always, Bestbuy has an excellent return policy and even better customer service, so you never have to worry about buying a product that you don’t like… so why not test it out?!

A Wheel for those who have issues with Wheels

So there's a thing about me, I love racing games. I've currently got at least 6 installed on my machine and I own 28 on Steam, having played through most or all of them. They range from true racing games like Project Cars to more fantastical stuff like Rocket League or GRIP. The issue I've always had is racing wheels. I love the idea of them, I love how they feel and the idea that it could create a more immersive driving experience, but something about them for me never translates from real life to the screen in the way I would think they would. Maybe I don't know enough about them or how to adjust them properly, I know many of these racing games allow modification of the sensitivity, but to me it always feels like it's nothing close to the real world, and punching a D-pad or Analog stick loses a lot of the sensitivity you'd expect out of a wheel.
For me, this is where this controller truly excels. With this ability to have a wheel that I can control with my hand and a flick of the wrist or with my thumb guiding the edge, I've suddenly gained in a very handheld format, the control I lose by switching to a controller, more than that, this is entirely portable, whereas most racing wheels are not.
I have to say, I love this thing, the ability to put the wheel where it is most comfortable and for this to be a modular design really lends itself to, I would say, an entire group of gamers that for some reason cant particularly utilize a standard racing wheel for many reasons. For me, I placed the wheel in the lower left modular slot, giving my left thumb clear access to it and it's really been something else to use. When making turns in Asphalt 9, I'm getting a sense of control that using a plain controller just never lent me. It translates well across games as well, whether Project Cars III or Burnout, or even Rocket League, there's just a great amount of function that this lends itself to.
All in all, if you are a racing game fan, whether Forza or Project Cars or many others, and find yourself in a situation where a standard racing wheel just doesn't work for you, or you want something that is more portable, this is the answer. I heartily recommend it.

Excellent alternative to a Racing Wheel

I've used so many controllers over the years, this one is probably one of if not the most unique I've used.
I have a Racing Wheel, but I can't use it due to the way my desk is designed, so I can't truly enjoy games like Forza, GT and many others.
This Controller is a kind of saving grace. It gives a kind of feel as using a wheel. It's been taking a bit of getting used to, but after a good hour or two of playing Forza Horizon 5, I've come to really enjoy using it. It does a good job of making steering more precise, much more than just an analog stick. It's a good compromise if you don't have the room for a Steering Wheel, or you if don't like using a Wheel. It obviously won't ever replace a Wheel, but it's a more ideal way of controlling your cars.
I do love the ability to move the D-Pad, Analog Sticks and the Wheel to however it feels good for your grip. The additional buttons on the back are a very welcome feature if you're not using the D-Pad. Another welcome feature is being able to adjust the throw of the Triggers. Even if not using it for a Racing game, it's still really great for many other game types. The controller also has rubber grips on the outside of them. It's not textured, but in playing Forza for several hours I didn't find my hands getting sweaty at all, something I can't say for countless other controllers I've used.
Another great feature is the controls that flank the Mic port. You adjust the volume, mute etc.
The Grips and triggers are also swappable so you can customize your controller to needs.
I'll probably be using this a lot more, especially whenever the call of Racing games beckons.
If you're looking for a customizable compromise outside of having a Wheel, Pedals and Shifter due to not having the room, this is easily a great next choice.

The controller itself is really quite good.
I'm into Sim Racing, but sometimes I want to just chill out with some easy Project Cars 2 or Forza Horizon. I don't want to climb into my rig and throw the VR on every time I want to do some racing.
This controller is perfect for that. The thumb-wheel is a huge improvement over a traditional thumbstick. It's actually pretty intuitive. Now, it isn't as precise or as good as an actual wheel, but if you want to race on a controller, there really is no other option that compares.
The negatives:
1. I'm a touch worried about the durability of the thumbwheel. No issues with it so far, of course, but it doesn't necessarily feel like the most durable thing in the world. Time will tell, and...well, its better that I can simply buy a replacement module over a whole new controller, so there are even elements of this negative that are positive.
2. Using the official thrustmaster drivers for this causes a blue screen crash. It took a super quick google search from me after it happened to understand that this is a known issue and has been a problem for YEARS. Unfortunately, this isn't surprising. A lot of the big name peripheral manufacturers seem to have no concern regarding their software and its effects on consumers (looking at you Logitech G Hub!). Thankfully, there is an easy fix. Just don't use the thrustmaster software, and if the drivers say Thrustmaster on them, delete them and let it use that standard windows xbox controller drivers. It works just as well.
Overall. Worth it.

The Thrustmaster ESWAP X R Pro gamepad is an excellent controller. This Forza themed gamepad is fantastic for playing any game. I mostly play racing games, and have most recently been playing a lot of the new The Crew Motorfest. This controller has excellent mini-sticks. They are very precise and have just enough tension to them. Some mini-sticks can be stiff, and some are loose. These are in the Goldilocks zone, just right. The button presses are instant and you can feel it. The included steering wheel is fun to use, but to be honest, if you are serious about racing, and use a gamepad, you will find it very hard to use this wheel. It's not ergonomic in any way you swap it in. I found it very difficult to use the triggers for gas and brake, the shoulder buttons for shifting gears, and trying to use the wheel to steer. I ended up going back to the mini-stick because of the difficulty. I can see that if you are playing a game that you don't need all that, it would be lots of fun. I will say that the wheel was very accurate, and I enjoyed using it, but I could not get comfortable using it in any configuration. Hats off to Thrustmaster for trying something different and thinking outside of the box. The support software, ThrustmappperX, allows you to fine tune this controller. You can re-assign buttons, dial in dead zones on the mini-sticks, and more. The onboard sound is also very good. I have a nice pair of wired earbuds, and they sound amazing when plugged into the ESWAP XR Pro.
While this controller is top notch, there are a few things I have issues with. First, the graphics on the buttons are painted on, the A,B,X, and Y buttons. The triggers are also painted, as well as the D-pad. The reason I take issue with this is that the graphics and paint all wore off shortly after getting it with my previous Thrustmaster Xswap Pro controller. Another issues is the lack of texture on the gamepad. It has none. It would be nice to have a little bit at least. My last issue is that the connection on the gamepad is Micro-USB, as opposed to the norm of USB-C. Not a deal breaker, but it would be nice to be able to disconnect the controller and be able to plug in my phone or other devices. Despite these minor issues, this is a phenomenal controller, and I really enjoy using it.
Likes:
1.) Extremely accurate joysticks
2.) Excellent button presses
3.) Excellent onboard sound
Dislikes:
1.) Painted buttons and triggers (will wear off)
2.) Micro-USB instead of USB-C connection on the controller
3.) Steering wheel is not practical on a controller
