This thing has worse picture quality than that of my 5 year old Samsung plasma TV. The refresh rate is terrible making anything with quick movement look bad. The good thing is the price, sound, and color. Won't be purchasing Toshiba again.

I had a 32" Toshiba, which I loved. This was a perfect upgrade: larger screen, even better colors and image quality. The TV own speakers are also better, although I used a Blu-ray Home Theater system. Price is pretty decent. Have had my 49" TV for about a month and a half. I'm really happy with this upgrade: totally worth it.

So far it has been an awesome TV, but that was not our first impression. We knew we had to upgrade our service from 480i SD to HD/digital access to take advantage of the TV. At first we were very disappointed with the picture quality. The outlines of people were jagged, tennis and football lines were stretched/elongated, lettering for the cities on the weather channel were barely legible. Adjustment thru the TV menu did not help. Popped in a DVD and wow, great picture and as many others have stated above average sound. Called our service provider and it was a simple fix. Because there was no HDMI cable available at the time of install, the technician set up the box for a co-ax cable signal input/output which only brought it up to 480p. All we did was swap over to an HDMI and re-set the box to 720p. The picture clarity is unbelievable with all factory settings except for picture mode, which we prefer it at “natural”. Extremely pleased with our purchase price of $329, but it got even better because it went on sale for $299 the following week. BestBuy refunded us the $30 which we put towards the 5 year warrantee.

Got this on black friday for a GREAT deal! $150 TV, $20 Insurance, $30 Wall Mount. Not that the price matters now but just saying it was a steal so I shouldn't have expected the best buuutttttt I was SHOCKED when I turned it on, being a tech fanatic I am very picky and would never stop at the least, this TV broke my jaw. For $300 (current price at time of writing 5/14/16) I couldn't recommend this anymore. It has great picture and very good sound, only complaint is not AV out but that's okay. If you want goodies like a smart TV has, save yourself the money and buy a roku, or chromecast. Portable and fast and more features, hope this helps. P.S. oddly satisfying remote to handle :p

The picture is very nice especially with hd tv shows. And the sound is way better than my other new westinghouse smart tv. Had plugged in to a surge protector. Buuut..... 18 days later the screen went black. Had sound but no picture at all. Im a bestbuy elite member and their return policy is 30 days. I went to exchange and they said nope sorry it has factory warranty call them to fix it. Wtf . So i called to schedule a repair but before i hung up BAM the fu@#in tv works again. Not sure what happened but 4 days after tv went out it works again, somethings not right. The warranty is 1 year and tech comes to your home to fix it. Good luck

So, I don't watch much TV but I am finishing my basement and decided to buy a new one for down there. I hooked this up in a matter of minutes and happened to catch the Walking Dead marathon just as I turned it on. I couldn't stop watching! I was extremely impressed with the sound quality! I felt like I was in a theater! and the Picture was crystal clear. A 50 inch name brand TV for $249?! Can't top that! I will be buying another to upgrade my living room TV!

Got this to replace my recently busted Insignia I got 2 years ago for $400 and looks and sounds just as good for just $250. It's a lot lighter than my Insignia and would be good for mounting.

Great TV for the price. Purchased online so I did not see the TV in person. Very lightweight and the picture and sound is good. The only thing I was disappointed about is not realizing that I could not hook up my older video game systems and DVD player to it. The TV is all HDMl, no RCA. That is my fault for not researching before hand. All in all, I am thinking of purchasing a second one for another room.

We purchased this TV for our bedroom to replace an old and heavy 40" LCD TV with a 2" border around the screen. This new Panasonic TV just barely fits in our real wood armoire with the doors taken off. The picture after about an hour of adjustments is nice and clear with minimal back light spillage around the edges of the screen. For the price and bedroom use, I'm satisfied. The speakers are sufficiently loud enough for a large bedroom well below 50%. However the DTS surround sound mode was unimpressive and I turned it off. DTS mode was too quiet and the "fake" surround sound was no different than normal stereo mode while watching Game of Thrones from our 5.1 Dolby DVR recording. I did turn on the enhance voices mode which seems to work nicely for watching cable tv and a few movies. Overall for less than three hundred (on a hidden sale with all the tvs in the back room at the local store), I'm quite satisfied for a 49" 1080p 60hz TV. P.S. The 3 HDMI inputs and 1 component (Red, White, Yellow) is great for 3 modern devices and at least one relic like a VCR or Wii.

I brought this TV because I needed a replacement. This TV was a great price for the size and the TV meet all my expectations in what I was looking for in quality. Great quality and excellent sound.

Received the TV and installed it yesterday. Incredible picture in HD. Sound is good, but a little tinny. We did purchase an additional sound bar. Overall, extremely happy with the television. Great buy, great value! We ordered it on line and it was double boxed. It arrived in perfect condition. It was a little tricky to set up soundbar mount and had to purchase additional bolts for our tv mount.

I bought this a couple months back on sale for $279.99 and knew it was a bargain. Now its on sale for $329.99? Man, did I get lucky. Picture and sound is good enough to justify the price along with the size of the thing. 49" 1080p hdtv for under $300? My mom bought one this size 6 years ago for $1200! Times sure have changed...

I bought this TV (49") for my Mom's birthday. While it is a basic TV, the picture, sound and quality is hard to beat. It is better than the Insignia brand. At $279, it couldn't be beat. Hope it lasts as long as the last Toshiba we owned.

After reading so many wonderful reviews on this set, my husband and I deceided to give this bad boy a shot. WE ARE GLAD WE DID TOO!!!! The picture and the sound is amazing!!! And need I say anything about the clarity? Awesome clarity too! You know how they say " you get what you pay for? Well, we got more than what we paid for!!!

O.K. As long as you know these won't be repaired by anyone in the future. Toshiba no longer makes TVs. Chinese electronic assemblers build an array of TVs with varying designs and quality and pay Toshiba to put their name on them. Same as Polaroid, Westinghouse, etc. There is no service, tech support, or parts network. Buy the longest warranty you can and trade it in when it breaks is the only strategy i can recomend here.

This is an excellent TV for the price. Toshiba is a reputable company. I usually buy top tier but this was to upgrade a bedroom TV from 32" to 49". Couldn't go wrong with this. The menu interface is much easier to use than my Samsung and was a breeze to setup. However I don't think it beats the contrast and color of my Samsung Plasma which is only a 720P TV. Buy this TV and you will be pleased. I purchased for 329 but price dropped to 299 while it was being shipped so Best Buy credited the difference. Can't go wrong with TV's and Laptops from BB. Better deals that Amazon. The reviews on BB helped make the decision and I ignored all the reviews that had out of the box hardware failures as they are not typical. Compared it to Insignia, but you don't know who manufactures each model and ratings are all over the board. Also for over the air (OTA) channels, I get a lot better reception with this Toshiba vs. my Samsung that is in the exact same place with same antenna.

Have had this model tv for a week now, and I am very very pleased. Excellent picture & sound. All in all a great buy.

This tv is amazing, the quality of the pictures it displays. It's also good for movies because it's loud.
