The Toshiba Canvio 3TB, has the highest transfer rate that I've seen on any single external backup drive with USB 3.0. It took three and a half minutes to transfer 23 gigabytes of data via USB3 at an alarmingly FAST 103-110MB/sec. Nevertheless, your results will vary, as maximum data throughput is largely dependent upon 'if' the unit you're transferring from can 'keep up' or outrun the receiving unit. My test was done by transferring data from a 10,000RPM Western Digital VelociRaptor to the Toshiba Canvio 3TB. I picked up two of these drives to replace my WD MyBook 1.5TB external unit that died when it was accidentally tipped over from standing upright. However, I could only get 85MB/sec transfer rate with it. (Be sure to store your backup drive laying horizontally so as to avoid any potential loss of data resulting from tipping the unit over over on its side) ~~~ BUY with confidence knowing that the Toshiba Canvio 3TB is a proven performer with outstanding value. ~~~ Design, construction and packaging is very good.

I do substantial due diligence before buying anything. Fast. Very good price. Connection was a cinch. Great bang for the buck. ALL externals will eventually fail (so use Backblaze or Carbonite or SOMETHING!), but WD track record is much better than Seagate and ALL the rest. I've probably had 10 WD's... from small portables to 3TB desk models. No failures (yet).

I got 3TB at a great price. Despite seeing a few complaints elsewhere about reliability I have had no problem so far (only a couple of weeks). I have a 1TB drive that is teeny compared with this, so I have to conclude it is relatively large... but it sits on a desktop so that isn't really a problem. I added a USB3.0 card to the desktop to take advantage of that capability.

Still relatively new, but drive was easy to use for a non technical person like me. I was able to move files over quickly and easily to free up space on my computer. Fits in our fireproof box so we can grab and go in case of emergency

I haven't had time to evaluate this drive properly. Time will tell if it holds up, however, it should work about as well as any other drive with the same specs. Toshiba is generally reliable and the price certainly makes this drive very attractive. I was just looking for a basic back up drive so this one appears to be a good value.

I bought this to back up files and play them through my Roku. I am thrilled with the storage space, though I did not figure out until after I bought it that the Roku would not be able to read it directly from its USB port because of its capacity (larger than 1Tb.U tried to partition it into sections of just under 1 Tb each, like an internet workaround suggested, but that didn't work, sadly. I wound up attaching it to my desktop and streaming it to the Roku instead, which still works, but my original plot was to be able to watch my growing collection without having to leave my computer on as well. That is ok, though, because the storage space is worth it.

Love this product for storage for the Wii U. I like how the product automatically is recognized by the system. Set up is a breeze and has more than enough storage for your gaming needs.

I really like this drive. I purchased it as external storage for my XBox one and it works just fine. No issues and is actually faster than the internal XBox One drive. Programs load faster from this drive. No complaints.

3 Terabytes for barely over $100.00 cannot be beat. Plug and Play ease with fast data read and write. I would have given it 5 stars if the Backup Now EZ software add on wasn't such a pest.

2nd one that I own. It's reliable, so far I encountered no problems. I have tried others (Seagate & WD) and they all work fine but I like the fact that the Toshiba is smaller in size for the same 3TB. It might be a bit slow for those who need speed transfer but it's fast enough for me. Very quiet, not much heat. just plug it in and it's ready to use ... very simple. I would buy another if I need more storage in the future.

I bought this product to backup my new Win 7 desktops. For the most part, it is plug and play on these machines. The price was right for the drive's capacity (3TB). The problem that I ran into happened when I tried to perform a backup using Windows Backup routine. It runs but it continues giving a warning that it couldn't complete the backup. Investigation on the Microsoft website lead me to conclude that MS knows about the problem (due to the size of the sectors on these high density HDDs) but won't address the problem. Not to worry, Toshiba provides software with the product to perform backups.

This drive is great for media professionals. Lot of storage space and fast response time.

This was a great deal in conjunction with an MC credit card linked promo ($50 off any purchase of $100 or more) >> turned out to be about $25 / GB including tax. Otherwise, performance is good and drive is fairly quiet and compact. Great for expansion memory purposes. Has an included backup feature that I've found helpful - allows restore in case something happens to your computer and you want to get back to normal. Doesn't have any encryption or password protection software included, but there are free tools out there for those purposes. All in all - good deal (as is anything under ~$33 / TB).

This hard drive has worked like a charm since getting it a few weeks ago. No problems, easy to use, compact size and nice and quiet. Have used it on multiple PCs using both Windows 7 and Windows 8 and it hasn't had any problems. I use a third party backup software, so can't comment on the backup software that's included with the device.

Just plug it in and go. Easily surpasses the previous hard drives I used with a whoppng 1TB of space. Not bulky and quick set up makes this a plus.

For storage this is a really good deal. And fast when transferring files.

The external drive was what I was looking for to store my family pictures. It's amazing how much storage is available on it. The added bonus was when I got it for a cheaper price than at Wal-Mart. Thank you Best Buy!

This drive is definately a good econmical choice that is affordable and a good buy for the storage size. It is easy to install, basically, plug, power and use. The only downfall that I encounter is extremely slow data transfer using both USB 2 or USB 3. This normally occurs when you are attempting to copy large amounts of data (1GB+) to the drive. The price was right, I bought it, and it satisfies my basic storage requirements

I have a smaller for personal Toshiba desktop drive and needed more capacity. Read reviews and there were negative issues for all of them. Decided to go with my Toshiba experience and purchased the 3TB in store on sale. Setup was very easy, started using immediately. Uploads and downloads very easy although large files took sometime. Not the Toshiba's fault. I have a five year old HP All in One PC running Windows 7 and is is not equipped as the newer PC's are to run faster up and downloads via USB. You can upgrade an older computer but I have not done so. The drive is silent - not fan - but it runs cool. Goes into sleep mode when not in use. Takes up very little desk space. I have both my old and new desktop drives connected to my PC and run both as needed with no difficulty. It comes with backup software but I did not install it. Put in a folder. I backup manually when needed. So I can't comment on the software. Runs fine without it. I highly recommend this drive with no reservations.

I purchased this external drive for work and so far it has been working well. It primarily used as a data drive that stores renderings, pictures, and other media. Two thumbs up, when I purchased it, now that hard drive prices are a little lower, you should be able to find a 3TB HDD for less than the 100 bucks I paid for this.
