I purchased this phone as an emergency backup phone. The screen is a decent size, the text is easy to read and the phone has a solid feel in the hand. It doesn't feel overly breakable. However, the user interface is clunky and it is hard to find things in the menu.

I was looking for a simple phone for my elementary age child to carry in a backpack. This does the trick. It's simple to use and we were able to program family numbers with no trouble. The battery seems to last a long time with little to no use. I can't say much for the battery if you use the phone a lot, but for an emergency phone at very little cost, it's perfect.

I wanted a phone that did nothing but allow me to call people. This is a terrific phone and just the right size to carry around. Reception is exceptional. Try it, you will like it.

Our daughter has had trouble keeping track of her phones, or they just break. We got this and have had no problems, she loves it. I told her when she can keep track and remember to charge it, will talk about about upgrading, and i'll come back into Best Buy for our daughters next phone!

Was looking for a minimal cost phone for my brother to use for emergency. He is in a wheelchair, lives in a nursing home but goes outside almost every day. They want him to call the nursing home if he gets in trouble. Otherwise he does not need a phone at all. The tracfone is perfect for his situation. Thank-you!

I bought this for my dad who was having trouble seeing his old phone. While the buttons and screen are not huge they are big enough he can use it. As an added bonus he is excited to have a camera function even though the picture quality is severely lacking. Great phone for the price.

This phone is just right for our son. We wanted a first phone that was basic and this really fit the bill, easy to use, easy to program and easy to load minutes. Great as a kids first phone.

Tracfone works great for what I need. I don't need all the extras that other phones have. I talk and can take pictures. Phone is easy to use and I would recommend, especially to someone a little older like me.

My brother was coming from out of country so we bought this so he would have a phone while here and it was exactly what he needed on his 3 week stay. Loading minutes was simple and it even receives text and weather alerts. Only drawback is you have to use the number keys for letters. So you have to hit 1 twice for a B and so on. There is no straight up alpha keys. This made texting harder but you get used to it.

Was looking for a basic phone for an older family member who didn't want a cell phone (his wife wanted him to have one for emergencies). If you are looking for a basic no-frills phone, this one does the job and has nice features like a count of remaining minutes and days of service, a basic camera, voicemail and texting. We are happy with this, but let's be realistic and know that this is not going to get anyone even remotely interested in technology very excited.

Needed Simple Phone for Person with Dementia

My brother has dementia and his Android phone was too hard for him to operate. We both use Tracfone for our carriers. I went to BB specifically looking for the lowest technology I could find. And they had two choices. He still has trouble answering it at times but that is not the fault of the phone. Only problem I see is that, even following the manual, volume continues to be low.

My cellphones have always been ones for which I prepay minutes. To keep my cellphone access current, I buy more minutes every 90 days (or more often if I need them, which I never have). When I buy minutes, I get double minutes -- $20 for a nominal 60 minutes automatically gives me 120 minutes. Unused minutes roll over. I can make phone calls anywhere in the U.S. and its territories. I've made phone calls from the Virgin Islands to Virginia. When my old clamshell TracFone died, I tried to replace it with something equally simple. I was in a hurry and instead bought a bigger, heavier TracFone that was basically a computer. It didn't have a clamshell cover to protect the screen, which I missed, although I managed not to break the screen. The phone was more complicated than I wanted, and I wasn't interested in mastering its intricacies. It was entirely too apt to be helpful -- I found myself accidentally making phone calls just by picking up the telephone. (Fortunately, it gave double minutes, too.) I hated the phone and ended up resetting it back to the factory specifications and giving it to the police department to give to a homeless woman who might need it to make a 911 call. So I went to Best Buy and bought another clamshell TracFone that's as much like my first one as I could manage. That phone is the one I'm reviewing here. I have only good things to say about it. It's much cheaper than the second one (about $15), smaller, and it's even lighter weight than my first clamshell. This new TracFone does exactly what I want it to do, double minutes and all. I can make phone calls easily. If I'm in a store comparing items, I can snap a quick photo, so I can remind myself later what I looked at and where it was. (The photos' resolution is good enough for this purpose, but I wouldn't use the phone to take photos that matter.) It looks as though internet access is available on the phone, and I know I could text if I wanted. But those features are options to choose, not pests that come up first, repeatedly, and insistently, as they were on the second TracFone I had. This new TracFone doesn't play music or games, thank goodness -- the second one kept nagging me to do that. So I'm very happy with my new clamshell TracFone. It wouldn't work for everyone, but it sure works for me!

The cheapest phone ever, costs about 100 dollars a year to run. Great for older people who do not really want a cell phone, but need one just in case something happens when they are traveling or walking around their property.
