I'm sure it works just fine, but with Windows Defender, it's just redundant for me and just eats CPU processing power for no reason to do the same task twice, but it seems like good software, just personally don't have any reason to continue using it.

I hoped this would be a device I could read anywhere. It’s great for carrying in a pocket or small purse. About the size of my iPhone 14 Plus. It’s incredible snappy due to being much higher spec than a normal ereader. I love all the customization and reading related apps I can install. The worst thing for me is the frontlight. It has the worst I’ve ever seen. Of the 2023/2024 devices I have a kobo Libra color, nook glowlight 4 plus, and kindle scribe. It’s worse than all of those which is saying something bc my nook has a terrible light too. Kindle has the most uniform and pleasant front light across all of there devices. The Palma has very obvious glow on the top and bottom edges. And at night time, the Palma at lowest brightness is still too bright. It’s almost a deal breaker. I used it at night for almost a week before I gave up and went back to kindle Paperwhite. More positives, the subreddit for Onyx Boox is very helpful on tips to get the most from their devices. I was expect d it to be complicated but the software was pretty straight forward to me so many options and settings to really tweak your reading experience. Plus you can install more fonts and even your own dictionaries. There is free text to speech and you can use a Bluetooth headset. Next I plan to see if I can install new voices. All in all I’m pleased, I can’t use it at bedtime like I hoped but maybe they will add a system wide dark mode or in their native reader app (which I really enjoy using). I find think I will ever buy another kindle (though kindle has superior build quality), I just like having the faster Boox with Google play store.
