from the first day I heard a loud grinding noise. It's a clear sign that the head is maladjusted. As it scrapes the disks platters, it irreparably damages the read/write functionality.
Alas, my personal extenuating circumstances, as a Palisades Fire refugee, dealing with government deadlines, temp housing, plus recent urgent medical issues, I've missed very short-term deadline to return.
Thus I am extremely disappointed with both Best Buy and Western Digital.

i/o error right out of the box. Tried several cables and two different computers as well as several programs. Kept returning the same error after failing to initialize. Other drives work just fine.

If the drive was purchased from Best Buy, we recommend contacting Best Buy directly for an exchange or refund under their return policy. Warning – Do Not Buy
This batch of drives is defective due to a manufacturing issue. Even though Best Buy is still selling them, they are marked as defective. You might get lucky and find one that works, but it’s not worth trusting your data to this batch of drives.
Stay away not reliable.
