Got this on a sale, and honestly, its not terrible. It does what it needs to do and runs efficiently in my PC. Its just that there are better SSDs out there that, unless you reaallly need an SSD or are tight on cash, you may find better elsewhere.
Hello, Please know that the screws to attach the drive with the motherboard usually comes with the motherboard's case or in a plastic pouch with the computer. Each Motherboard manufacturer uses their own specifications for the Standoff screw's pitch and TPI. -Need Help? Please see our "'Contact Us" page for information.

Its been a ritual having to go to Bestbuy a few times in a row when upgrading my PC. Not because i need more parts, but because they incorrectly advised me into buying parts. This SSD worked well once i finally got it going. Then it quit recognizing the boot system which in turn left me wasting $250 in parts.

WD SN850X SSD is a fourth generation PCIe SSD with top spec. This SSD is rated at 7,300MB/s read and 6,600MB/S write speed, these numbers are blazingly fast. As usual, typical PC gamers should always be skeptical about reaching those exact speed due to several reasons such as hardware and software issues. However, firstly it is important that your motherboard should support 4th gen PCIe devices. 4th gen PCIe has been here for quite a while so it’s expected that next year 5th gen PCIe will become available. The question, is it still worth it to invest in a 4th gen PCIe SSD? The answer is yes especially if upgrading your storage capacity has already becoming a necessity. The SSD comes with 5-year manufacturer’s warranty, which is nice to have.
To unleash its full potential, the write performance of this SSD is meant for PC though it will work in other devices including PS5. If you’re a gamer and specifically if you game, stream and record your video at the same time, this is the SSD to get. You will also appreciate the performance of the SSD when you use your PC for video editing.
There’s a PC dashboard software that gives us information about the SSD including firmware updates and the ability to switch on the gaming mode. If you’re not sure about the gaming mode, just leave it on auto mode.
So how about the performance? The performance is very good especially the write speed. While it’s hard to reach the exact top speed as per the manufacturer’s rating, its important to note that the SSD can maintain a sustained performance meaning you won’t be experiencing dramatic drop of speed when the PC is running a write or read operation on the SSD. You will need sustained performance if you use your PC for tasks such as editing and rendering 4K videos.
Here’s what I don’t like about the SSD. Number one is durability, if you plan to use your SSD on daily basis, performance will suffer after a few years, which is quite typical for any SSD. The SSD also runs quite hot so if you are a super competitive gamer that relies on every FPS you can get, you may want to have a look at your PC’s overall thermal management system to ensure that the heat it produces does not affect the system. This is not an issue for typical gamers so overall this is a very good SSD to get.

Not a "simple" install. Im sure it runs grest if it didnt take priority over your primary SSD and make it disappear in the boot order. Not to mention GEEK SQUAD offered absolutely ZERO help without wanting to take my tower. Took it into your store for a "consultation" only for your desk rep to boot it up, look at it for 2 seconds, then tell me she has to take it. No help offered to walk me through it in store or on the phone. Completely pointless and not sure what i spent $200 on for my membership

I received this storage card today and it works great for my Alienware x15 R2 gaming laptop. Opened up the laptop, clicked the card in place and tightened the screw. Put the panel back on the laptop and fired it up. Formatted the the card and my laptop recognized it as new storage. I now have 2tb of storage for my steam, Activision/Blizzard and Xbox games. Very easy to install. Just remember to format the drive after you install. The computer does not recognize automatically and you must format the drive before you can use it. installed a new game that was released on Xbox Gamepass PC today called Death Stranding and I was absolutely amazed at how fast the game loaded up on my laptop. Even games like Diablo 2 and 3 where you're traveling between different sections where's there's a loading screen I saw no delay with loading back into those games. Western Digital products are very reliable for storage needs. Wether it be a external hdd for you Xbox or and internal ssd like this one that you can you in your Playstation or gaming laptop. I would definitely recommend this product if you're looking to upgrade the storage in your devices. 2 thumbs up for a great product at an affordable price!

As someone who games hard, edits video content, and values every millisecond of load time, I can confidently say: this drive rips.
Right out of the box, the SN850X screams performance. I installed it in my gaming rig, and the difference was night and day—boot times are nearly instant, games load faster than I can grab my controller, and large file transfers happen in the blink of an eye. The Gen 4 speed? Absolutely real. CrystalDiskMark showed me read/write speeds close to the 7,000 MB/s mark, and it stayed cool and consistent, even under load.
WD_BLACK really nailed it here—not only is it ridiculously fast, but it’s also reliable and backed by a brand I trust. I’ve used other SSDs before, but this one feels next-gen. Whether you’re upgrading your PS5 or building a PC beast, this drive is the power-up your setup deserves.
If you're serious about performance and want an SSD that delivers elite-tier speed with no compromises, the SN850X is the one. It doesn’t just keep up—it leads the way.
Recommend. Zero regrets. WD_BLACK, you’ve earned a permanent spot in my build.

Bought brand new, came back as an sn810 512gb in bios but has the 1tb sticker? Directly from best buy in new packaging and it has someones steam account and other personal info on it it booted into their windows account i had to set my main drive to reboot. I paid for 1TB and got far from it.

Got this drive for my Legion desktop as a second drive. I have games divided between the two drives. The 850x works very well. Not sure about how hot it gets. The slot it’s in is right below my cpu fan so I imagine that helps keep it cool enough.
The only downside to this drive is the screw. This is the second WD black drive I’ve bought (other one was a 770 for my PS5) and it seems that WD doesn’t feel it necessary to include a screw in the box. The PS5 had a screw so not problem there but my desktop didn’t have a screw in that m.2 slot. I spent an hour or more trying different screws with no luck. Finally got one from the hard drive cover of an old laptop and it fit. So make sure you have the right screw to hold the drive down ahead of time.

This new SSD is future proofed and an excellent choice for upgrading an older system but more importantly is a very good upgrade for a newer system that supports PCIe GEN 4. Even on older systems with support for Gen 3 you'll see performance max out on write speeds and read speeds to be just about equal (wow!) and on Gen 4 you'll notice huge improvements to read and write speeds which have a huge impact on graphics workloads that are data intensive like video editing, clipping and cutting.
If you do a lot of 4k video like GoPro or process workloads for Youtube videos you upload or gaming you'll appreciate the performance boost this drive will bring and based on my experience I would definitely recommend an upgrade.
If you're not sure if your PC supports PCIe Gen4 you can check with your manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer but the latest 11th generation Intel (Z590 or B560 chipesets) and AMD 3000, 5000 series chips and X570 boards should support this drive at it's max speed. Again, you'll want to check specs on your system first but even if it's only 10th Gen or even 9th Gen the performance boost from this drive is worth it and then also makes your drive ready to move to a new system if you upgrade.
Either way older system or new, I'd recommend this drive as the performance of it is seriously better than older NVME drives all around, and if you'd don't have an NVME SSD for Gaming or workloads for video or photo editing, this is a must have upgrade and based on how it performed in both my older and newer system this is well worth the time upgrading.

This drive was an upgrade to a smaller OEM NVMe drive that came with my Dell desktop. The OEM drive is not 'high performance' but I did not ever really notice a problem with the drive being a bottleneck or slow.
Upgrading to this drive definitely changed my mind though.
First the installation is a breeze, assuming you have either a spare hard disk or 2 NVMe ports. I only have one port so I put an old SATA SSD in the desktop as a temporary clone. I cloned the existing NVMe to the SATA SSD. Then replaced the NVMe with this WD 1TB drive and cloned the SATA SSD to it. The whole cloning took a matter of minutes, definitely beats the days of cloning HDD overnight.
Once I was up and running with this new NVMe I immediately noticed a difference. The computer booted faster, my programs were quicker to load and large file access was seamless. Editing videos with this drive is awesome and the 1TB gives you enough space to actually run large high res videos from the drive and not have to piecemeal copy segments or work off a second drive.
When I tested this drive against my existing NVMe it ran almost twice as fast /sec, which explains the quicker computer responses.
I honestly didn't think it would be a big difference but this drive is definitely a noticeable step up in speed over a standard SSD NVMe drive. If you're working with large files, or just want to quicken up your computers responses this drive definitely seems to do the trick.
