occasional problems with the USB connection

I got this before I figured out that you can't get a USB-C hub that reliably connects to external disks without spending at least $400 on what they call a "dock", so it's not clear how much was the hubs and how much was the drive. It's currently unmountable because the last disconnect corrupted something, but now I have one of those ridiculous "dock" hubs so I don't expect that to happen again

Frequent loud screeching clicks - seems normal

16TB vs 14.5TB

This brings to forefront the difference between how the manufacturers state drive capacity, and how the OS calculates it: Manufacturers 1TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes Operating System: 1TB = 1,099,510,000,000 bytes (1024^4) Seems a little shady, but all hard drive manufacturers use this math “trick” in an attempt to push themselves to to top in drive capacity wars.
