3 of these failed on me in a 42 day period. I dont know if it was just a bad batch or what. But best buy right away let me switch them each time no issue. And even offered a full refund, i just went with another brand. But the store was amazing and was incredibly helpful

Unless you are going to store 20TB of unimportant information, don’t rely on this hard drive. I bought it and stopped being recognized by computer in 2 weeks.
Hello, We recommend that you try connecting the drive to another computer using a different cable and ports. If the drive creates same issue with another computer then open a ticket with the error screenshots if any at https://support-en.wd.com/app/askweb our technical team will get in touch with you at the earliest.

I bought this as a backup to my backup. I installed every driver and proprietary western digital piece of software to try to get this to work. I still couldn't copy anything to it. I could have just had a bad unit. I didn't have time to keep troubleshooting so I asked for my money back.

As a previous purchaser wrote. This is supposed to be an 18TB drive and instead it is only 16.37TB the additional software package it comes with is only a few kb. so where is the other 1.5 TB. WB and external drives are always missing a few gb due to software. Not the case here. This is a ton of advertised, unusable space. Disappointing to say the least.

Do not buy this oroduct. This drive has already burned out and I lost everything that has taken me years to compile. This is the 2nd item from Best Buy that is complete garbage.

Got the hard disk delivered yesterday.. but..
Getting the error "Not Initialized" and when trying to initialize, getting the error "The device is not ready". Seen this first time after having 20+ external hard disks..

Never got item due to technical difficulties and Staff didn't communicate that there was issue with paying for it, then they ignore my recommendation to fix website issue to change payment info before it was brought to the store.

Bought this when it was on deal of the day online. The box was sealed and has the 18TB sticker on the front but when you connect to it, it's only 16TB instead of the 18TB. So i went to an actual Best Buy store to get the unit exchanged, once home, I kid you not, the box was sealed with 18TB sticker on it but once again when connected its only 16TB. What a let down.
Just buy it somewhere else, people are liquidating

Wayyy too expensive. Retailers messed up moving too quick in raising Hard Drive prices to reflect a cryptocurrency called Chia before Chia proved itself worthy of such price increases with the test of time as other cryptocurrencies have. Due to the reality of Chia being designed for datacenters and not the people the market is flooded with cheap cheap hard drives because of this gamble in raising hard drive prices prematurely.
Hello JerryM, Please be informed that hard drives produce some noise when they work. The amount and kind of noise depend on what the hard drive is doing like reading or writing data. It's good to know which sounds are normal and which might mean there's a problem with the hard drive. To know more about the Reasons for Hard Drive Noise please refer to the mentioned link: https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/32906
