Good Equipment, Bad Software

Great for capacity and transfer speed. The latest software from WD still doesn't work on this drive, the included software is useless. WD Security doesn't recognize the drive at all, so the vaunted encryption ability is missing. Windows will still encrypt the drive using their own proprietary software; but unlike WD's encryption, Windows' version can be bypassed.

I bought this easystore 18TB hard drive as a replacement for two other smaller easystore hard drives that were getting old. So I transferred all their files to this 18TB hard drive with room to spare for new files. Now, one less hard drive and one less power brick plug. This new drive is compact and very quiet. For now, everything is working out.

Got 3 x 18TB drives for archival purposes, mostly photos. The drives are reasonably fast. The USB3 interface seems sufficient for one 7200 rpm drive. I believe there is a WD180EDFZ inside. The price is great also. I will buy more in the future.

Purchased this for my grandson who saw it on Black Friday add and immediately wanted two. (He is an IT person with a lot of equipment) He had done some research and said these were some of the best and price was too good to pass up.

The WDWD - easystore 18TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive is good value for money. I attached it via USB to the back of my NAS and it showed up very soon on the NAS directory.
Hi RussB, Please be informed that hard drives produce some noise when they work. The amount and kind of noise depend on what the hard drive is doing like reading or writing data. It's good to know which sounds are normal and which might mean there's a problem with the hard drive. Please refer to the mentioned link to know about the causes of hard drive noises: https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/32906 If you need any assistance then please feel free to contact us by opening a ticket directly at (https://support-en.wd.com/app/askweb)

Perfect? No nothing ever is in my opinion but it gets the job done. I think it's also interesting how another person bought 3 and only 2 of the 3 had 18TB so 1 star because the manufacturer screwed up but I assume it was a mandatory imitate situation for 3 18TB hard drives but hopefully they are doing alright
