Customers are saying

Customers praise the My Book 10TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive for its large storage capacity, ease of use, and quiet operation. Many appreciate its good price and the convenience of the USB connection. While some find the size a bit large, the positive feedback on storage, usability, and quietness outweighs this concern. The hardware encryption feature is also a frequently mentioned plus.

Luckily I have the protection plan. Problem is I'll likely get stuck with a replacement, hopefully that one will last. Purchased on 8/8, last backup 8/12. Offline ever since.

I am having to return this unit to the store because it stopped working, will not power on. i only used it three times. It is a real inconvenience because I use it for work and a home business.

This is a very nice drive from WD. I needed something for the desktop to store movies to transport and hook up to another computer. This proved to be the solution I needed. I just keep all my movies on the MyBook after I get done transcoding/compressing them (I also have a copy backed up on an internal array. I can move the MyBook to another non-network system anytime and share whatever new releases I've found.

So this looks great and it's good for the money. Hasn't died on me yet, though I've only owned it for a small amount of time. It fully utilizes USB 3.0, so it's fast (well, as fast as the USB 3.0 standard). Need a 10 TB drive? Get this one! BUT, if you're a moderate to advanced or expert user, please note: THIS COMES FORMATTED AS EXFAT. Yes, I also facepalmed. I still maintain they had a good reason, and their engineers know what they are doing /s. I have no clue why they decided to do that, it seems like it'd cause unnecessary issues for basic users who don't know filesystem types. Mac OS X AND Linux can now natively (for the most part) read NTFS. Ubuntu 16.04 LTS was not able to read exfat, but read NTFS. Once you get this drive, if you just want to use it for storage, format it for NTFS, and it'll be usable on Windows, Mac OS X, and Ubuntu Linux (and maybe most debian).
