I had the My Passport before, but even though I liked the small compact size, I learned my lesson the hard way. The Passport is intended for portable use and not to be used constantly for several years. it is designed to be used intermitently and not continuously. I ran the poor thing to dealth. It worked faithfully as long at it could and did an excellent job. I just over committed it, and it finally gave out. Now I am trying to be smarter and I learned that the My Book unit is actually designed to be on the desk top running all the time. so far so good. Easy setup, instant recognition by my iMac, successful TIme Machine syncing, quiet operation, very large capacity (1T) and it is just a tad taller than my desktop printer (Canon) that it sits next to.

Started with a 3 TB WD drive, but turns out my dvd player and router will only handle up to 2 tb drive. Before finding this out, called WD support, they tried like heck to make it work..very (attempt) helpful, short wait times..really can not say enough good things about support. When we figured out it was not the drive but my other hardware issues, they just said return it. I did, got a 2tb drive, plugger it into usb on router, and bam, there it was. Have had a WD drive before and it lasted 5 or 6 years no prob, then my Great Dane got a hold of it. Turns out it is a sturdy drive only up to a point. Might have survived a smaller dog, but not 155lbs of Great Dane.

Best external hard drive for backing up important files, movies, photo, and music.

I have found Western Digital (WD) to be a reliable source for file storage. It just works and with ease of set up. With today's files getting larger due to images and video that is desired it is necessary to have a storage that can accommodate the space and quality of those files. I work with large video files each day and I need a dependable external that I can go to and know that my files are saved and are there in their rendered quality. Western Digital has delivered for me continually.

Hooked up without a hitch to my Wii-U. It recognized it, formatted it, and every time I download new content, it goes directly to this hard drive. Even when you are playing a disc for the first time. All information goes to the drive. It's nice to have all that room for all my DLC. I recommend this drive to anyone with a Wii-U.

When I looked up the possible external hard drives that are compatible with the Wii U, I was pleased with the results of my search. Sure, the price might have been a bit hefty, but when you get right down to it, 2TB is a great enough size for the Wii U. I used it to store my retail-class game downloads, and it gave me the necessary free space for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze! The MyBook works like a charm.

This drive stores a huge amount of pictures, which is why I bought it. I have been trying to transfer all my pics off my hard drive to improve the performance of my older Mac. I had to use tech help to set it up because my computer is so old. WD 's tech help is unavailable on the weekend (Boo! Who does this type of installation during business hours?) Geek Squad came slammin' home for me on this, again! Thanks Geeks! I have had great performance from the drive since I set it up. I bought the same one for my son for a replacement backup drive.

This unit was easy to install, loaded software from Dish Network quickly. Have loaded many movies and many more to go - good storage capacity. System easily accesses this External Device and have had no problems watching recorded events.

my transfers are fast, its reliable quiet and slim! WD has been the ones Ive always owned as externals. keep up the good work! my experience was fast, organized, workers were prompt to answer my questions. though I knew exactly what I wanted.

The WD My Book external hard drive is very easy to use and is ready right out of the box. It is perfect for storing all those extra photos and videos, or if you are a gamer you can increase your storage for those large game files.

I bought this in store while I was comparing to some internal drives. I had wanted an external but didn't want to spend the money before I found this for a great price. I was able to transfer 900 gigs of files overnight with no loss or issues on USB 2.0. easy plug and play with no compatibility issues on windows 8.1 or 10.

excellent external hard drive. really liked the compatibility with USB 2.0 & 3.0. cleaned up all the trash & put everything on this baby. it's quiet, quick, & virtually no heat due to the exhaust vents on the top.

My Book is easy to use, utilizes scheduled backups, and holds more than enough data for my needs. I like having the option of category backup or full disk backup. I am very satisfied with My Book.

I was looking for a backup drive but had had two Seagates break on with no way to recover the data, so I thought I'd try a Western Digital this time. So far so good. It's easy to use and holds a lot.

Our Dish receiver was going out and we needed to move all our recordings so we would not lose our un-watched shows. Did not really want to spend this much money on a backup drive but it was big enough to hold whatever we wanted. Connecting it to the receiver was easy with the provided wires. Set up was easy and we were able to quickly download our programs to the drive. Drive was compatible with both the old and new receivers. We are extremely pleased with the product

I needed something to store my personal files on that was not connected to the Internet so I decided on external drive. The size of the drive was way more than I needed but the price was reasonable enough for me to purchase it anyway, and I am glad I did because I also saved program file, music, movies and much more. Usage of the drive was also easy just plug and play. Definitely would recommend this product if you want to ensure you personally info won't be hacked ad long as you are off line when using the device.

I purchased this item to use as extra storage for my Wii U console. It was extremely easy to set up and it functions pretty much flawlessly. The only thing keeping it from being perfect is it can get rather noisy when it turns on until it gets warmed up.

Fast response and plenty of storage. Our son is using it for his XBOXONE does not have any lag . We would recommend it , having Geek Squad coverage is a big plus as well.

Great drive for backup storage, no more worries about hard drive failure or any computer related disasters. Good value, easy installation makes me a very happy customer.

I use the extra storage as a back up drive for movies from my Dish DVR. It is quite and fast with no problems.
