I purchased this drive largely based upon a specific need for a USB 3.0 product with 4TB of storage. I've owned many WD internal and external HD products over time and have not had any drive failures to date over many years. I purchased this drive specifically as a backup storage drive attached to a Synology 1813+ NAS unit. This required a reformat to EXT4 as the drive comes natively formated in NTFS. The Synology NAS schedules backup to this drive of selected folder shares using the "Time Backup" software available from Synology. I'm not utilizing any of the software included from WD with this drive (backup, cloud, etc.) as the Synology NAS has its own software for each of these purposes. The drive itself is similar in size to other My Book drives. The plastic casing is certainly not as nice as the aluminum finish on the WD My Book drives that I have for my Macs, but it is similar to the black of the Synology unit and overall looks good. The power adapter is reasonably sized (not a brick), and the unit comes with a USB 3.0 cord for use with its single USB 3.0/2.0 port. WD provides a 2-year warranty with this product.

Early review, I haven't had the product long. I have 150+ games for my system. I had filled up a 2 TB WD Passport & tried a 5TB Seagate which died within 6 months. After reading the reviews here and having luck with my Passport I decided to give this unit a go. I've now reinstalled all of my titles and the drive is great. IMO the speed is better matched to the X-1. The install, copy speed, and launch times appear to be faster. I've worked Q/A for a few game companies so I do notice these things though I don't benchmark them anymore. It is quiet & unlike the Seagate (IDKW), it works on a USB 3.0 hub. After I purchased the WD IGN.com reviewed it and said it is the best option out there for the X-1. I highly recommend.

Biggest TB out there so far and well worth the money! Easy to install, pretty my much plug and go! I saved under 20,000 pics including some videos and only used 188 GB!

Pretty hard to top 8TB at Best Buy's low price Great for a Time Machine drive on your Mac. USB 3.0 connection keeps things moving relatively fast too.

Love this hard drive. WD are my favorite. Easy to set up. Work great with Mac - plug & use. Works with Time Machine too.

it worked out of the box. Installed easily without any issues, and the computer recognized it.

My wife probably has about 100 DVDs with photos on them. Needed a hard drive that could handle them all. This has the capacity for a great price. Easy to format for the Mac, connected and was up and running in minutes. The perfect addition for the avid photographer in this digital age.

price was right. easy set up. storage is very good.

This thing will hold so many more files than my old 4TB units. Set up is quick and easy, transfer speeds are pretty good. Worked well enough that I bought 2.

For the money and quality this 8TB external hard drive is amazing. Have owned numerous Western Digital external hard drives in the past and have never had a problem. For a little more money the 8TB drive is super large and does the job of storing your data well. Simple to set up and operate Highly recommended.

This external drive was purchased mainly for back-up and redundancy purposes. It was as easy to install as plugging it in. It is quiet and works great. I now have the redundancy for pictures, music and other important files with plenty of space to spare. WD produces excellent drives and this is no exception.

It does an excellent job storing my pictures and files.

We have many of the My Book devices but in this particular case we needed a lot of storage for a project. The 8tb device was perfect for our needs and was ready to go right out of the box. We connected power and the USB and were moving data within minutes.

I own several WD hard drives, never had any problems with them. it was nice to upgrade to the 8 GB drive and consolidate all my data into one drive and have tons of space for my other projects. The USB 3.0 is nice and super fast transfer speeds.

I am so glad it changed from 2.0 to 3.0. I would have never bought this since the 2.0 was so slow. Now much faster. I am going to use this to backup all my kids pictures since they was babies. Very important!!!

This is a great drive if you need a ton of space. .
