Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the My Cloud Mirror's ease of use, ample storage capacity, and relatively easy setup process. Many appreciate its RAID capabilities for data protection and the ability to access files from various devices. However, some users experienced slow backup speeds and found the accompanying software to be less than ideal. Overall, the positive feedback on ease of use and storage outweighs the concerns about software and backup performance.

I bought this drive to backup our home business computers as we can't afford to be without them for more than a few hours. Accounting, graphics, embroidery and screen printing software is all needed at any given time. I wanted a drive that would hold all of our data and be able to back up multiple devices. It has served that purpose well so far. I am backing up 3 pc's to this drive effortlessly. The only downside I would say is that the software that comes with it is fantastic if you only want to do back ups. It's provided to WD by Acronis and is a stripped down version of their full software. I wanted to be able to image our drives so that if they crashed, I can simply replace the drive, restore and go without having to reload the operating system, all the software, and then the backup. I bought the Acronis True Image 2015 with a 3 PC license that solved that problem. So far a great drive and being a raid system, I have double the protection.

Feeling that my AirPort Timecapsule was not enough to back up my photos & music I went with this drive. It's a nice feature to be able to access my file in my iPhone while away. The app needs improvement but does its job. I like that I can upload file to the drive from my phone saving space & protecting file by having a backup. The software included is only for windows, it forces you to use Time Machine which doesn't keep my folder structure and files are not accessible.

I absolutely love this product! I read a lot of reviews before I bought it and most of them were negative. It was easy to set up. Easy to add users. I can access it through apps on my Mac, my iPad, and my android phone. People say you can't play music files on your iPad but I had no problem. I have not accessed it much outside of my Wi-Fi but the few times I did it worked great.

I've had my Mycloud mirror for about a month and so far I like it a lot. First, setup is incredibly easy. It really shouldn't be that tough but for those that aren't great with computers, just follow the directions and you'll be fine. I'm using mine as a hard drive extension for my Macbook Pro. Most of what I've put on there is videos and media that are backups for my Tab S. It's a nice way to save space on your Hard drive. With the 4 TB model running RAID 1 (which means each 2 TB hard drive stores the same data so its essentially backing itself up) I have plenty of space and don't have to worry about the data being lossed. It's always easy to access files as well. On the computer or phone or tablet, just click on the WD app and I have all my videos and GoPro edits anywhere I go. A few drawbacks however. First, if you're transferring many files (or large ones) through your network it takes a pretty long time. If you transfer files a little bit here and there you should be OK but 75 GB of video files took 2+ hours. That's in RAID 1 so it's really like 150 GB. Still a long time though. Good news is that it has a USB 3.0 slot. Bad news is it doesn't come with a USB 3 cable (it should). Definitely worth getting one of those for $5-$10. Also I've heard that the drives aren't replaceable if they break. Can't confirm if thats true but hopefully I don't have to find out. Overall I would definitely recommend this product.

The initial setup of this product was extremely easy. The wizards that WD use are intuitive, logical, and easy to follow. Overall, very satisfied with the product. I only wish that it had more options like either built in media server, or apps to download. One final note, it was default configured to RAID 1. I didn't see that on the box documentation anywhere. This is what I wanted, but it could confuse a novice that may have been expecting to see the full 4TB capacity available to them.

I have been a long time customer of Western Digital. My current NAS is a My Book Live (Single Drive) 2 TB. Purchased this when i constantly lost data. Its run without a hitch non stop, fully powered for 3+ years now. The Upgrade for extra security in the My Cloud Mirror allows me to either keep a backup of the 2TB MyBook Live or just transfer all the data to the MyCloud Mirror (which I had done) Web and mobile apps work perfectly. My Dropbox is automatically backed up to the MyCloud Mirror. No need to get on and click to backup from the phone (running Carousel on iOS). Quick Comparison: Mybook Live is: 800mhz dual core processor 512 Ram (i believe) Gigabit connection Single Drive MyCloud Mirror 4TB 1.2Ghz processor Same Ram Gigabit with USB to add more drives or backup capabilities 4TB in JBOD and RAID 0 2TB in RAID 1 (Same as before and faster) New web based tools are supurb! IF your looking for an easy to use NAS, setup at your home or a friends place...doesnt matter where it is in the work. This is dummy prooof (pretty much) and a big upgrade from the MyBook Live (DUO) lineup. WD does it again and is top notch. (Speed obviously is limited to the internet connection its hooked to) I have FiOS 25/25 service and its blazing fast to connect to while away from home.

I purchased the WD NAS for backup of several Windows computers on my home network. It was easy to setup and begin backups. I didn't use the cloud features so I can't evaluate them. The software that came with the WD NAS was not particularly useful. For changing settings and setting up accounts, it is easy enough to just access the NAS through the browser. Because the WD backup software doesn't include encryption, I purchased separate backup software so that I could encrypt my backups. From the on-line information, I thought that the device had hardware encryption. Upon installing the device, talking to WD and re-reviewing the online information, it is clear that this device does not include hardware encryption. I did find WD support easy to access and willing to work with me. He also thought that the device had hardware encryption. Only after we reformatted the device did he check with his supervisor who verified that this model doesn't include encryption. Overall, I am happy with the WD NAS.

Great "personal cloud" device. Easy to install, stable and reliable. I currently use to archive photos, music and video on my home network. I have found the speed to be satisfactory even when multiple family members are accessing simultaneously. The only negative is that it doesn't work well with Directv receiver, but I have not found a NAS drive yet that does. I have a Smart tv (Samsung) and use the music and video apps, but have not found an app for the TV yet. Accessing remotely works great. Even sending links to friends of content on the device via MyCloud works great. The iPad app could be better. It streams ok, but doesn't seem to allow you to build out custom playlists.

bought this external drive to be my primary repository for music and photos, as well as to serve as a back up drive. I chose this version because of the RAID option, since I won't have backups of my media anywhere else I wanted the security of RAID. The unit was easy to install on Window 7, and it is quite energy efficient and goes to/from sleep quite easily when not in use.

This is my first NAS (Network Attached Storage) and I have looked into other products from WD and Synology. The Mirror is the BEST value I found for what it offers. I'm using this attached to my home network, where it is the Time Machine backup for our home iMac and then the media server for our various devices. This includes our Panasonic AX800 Smart TV, various Sony Blu-ray players, Apple TV and iOS devices. I tried the WD MyCloud first and it was not fast enough for HD H.264 movie playback. This one is great! I use Elegato's EyeTV to record broadcast TV and then send the media from my iMac to the WD Mirror for device access. I did also compare this one to the EX2 from WD, and it comes with two software features (iSCSI and Windows network feature) that did not apply to my setup and so was not worth the extra $40.

I found myself making duplicate copies of all manner of files: videos, photos, music, ... across various external hard drives and thumb drives. It became a little too cumbersome to manage the different storage media and to remember where I had stored different things, so I opted for a NAS set up with RAID redundancy. The WD MyCloud Mirror has served me well in this regard so far. I've only had it for about two months, so it's too early to tell whether its built in redundancy will save my files from device failure, but in this time I have grown to enjoy its ease of use. The only "gotcha" I've encountered so far is that when I backed up a bunch of files from thumb drive directly to the NAS, the files were saved as read only, and I was completely unable to delete anything via Windows Explorer. It was only after wrestling with things for a bit that I realized that those backed up files can only be subsequently deleted via the WD software that manages the NAS. All in all, though, I'm very happy with the product.

This would have been a 5 star product but the software caused Windows 7 to lock up and drop network connections. The features are awesome, DLNA is flawless, network services are great, apple compatibility is flawless. The software may have been fixed, I use everything VIA network shares so the native app is not needed. If you buy this don't install the software until you check for updates on the web site.

This is my third backup system from WD. It is important to recognize that these backup systems can really bite if they break. The drives are / can be configured to mirror do if there is a hard drive failure it is simple to restore data. But if the raid controller dies then there can be a big problem as the operating system is Linux and the drive on it's own is hard to access.

I'm still working on backing up all my files on this system. The reason I gave it a good is the amount of time it takes to back things up and that a number of movies have failed to back up. It could be I'm still not sure exactly how the system works. I'm setting it up as JBOD - at least I think I am. I do like the fact that this system is expandable.

Not sure if it's my home UL speed, device capabilities, or the Drive's processor can't handle streaming HD video all that well due to constant buffering. Multiple factors are in play here. I stream (or at least try to) 1080p video whenever I can. Quality is my niche. For the most part, it works as a RAID NAS...for what it was designed.

I plugged this in and it was almost already available. I had to set up each computer and my Android cell phone to backup. Funny thing is the iPhone app is different than the Android and I could not figure out how to set my work phone up. The only other comment was the backup was really slow. I had read this and so expected it.
