    Veterans of hard drive use will have no trouble with this, but as a hard drive newbie, I was unclear on what exactly to do with it. It's much simpler than I thought, but I had to experiment with it a bit before I understood how it worked. The USB cord is very short, but I consider that a plus, since I will have it right beside my computer at all times and, thus, will not have to deal with the tangly mess of a long cord.

    External hard drives can come with the risk of failing after much use, but with the warranty this comes with, my anxiety of a failed investment is deferred. There isn't much unique properties an external hard drive can have compared to other options, but WD has always been a trusted brand for me, so in summary all I can say is the design influenced my decision between other options and no problems have occurred to this point, nor do I expect it to.
