See above. The drive which said it was compatible with Windows 8.1 simply wouldn’t work. And this was after spending hours with Western Digital experts who finally told me to return it for a refund.

This was bought as a gift for someone that wanted something to store hundreds of photos and music. For what they needed it for this is the perfect size and the pricing is ridiculously low. I remember when a 1TB hard drive cost over $100.

What's with the WD update popups all the time to upgrade software?! Also, difficult to control backup status all the time. I should be able to "set it and forget it", but cannot. Not comfortable the backup will be there for me in a year, two or three...

Needed a long cable and this was perfect. Good buy

I love a lot of the WD products but not this one. It’s poorly made and I had to return it. The usb connection was jacked as much as the build quality. The other WD hard drives are way better!

Still waiting to see if it is really plug and play

Had to get help to install it, other than that OK.

Was hoping this would be a little easier to use. Its not too difficult, but thought I'd just plug it in and everything would copy over automatically. It was a little more involved than that. Not even sure if it worked right or not.

I found the passport drive instructions for use were poor and although the drive will automatically back up the computer it was not obvious at all how to do a back up at random times. I just found it difficult to use compared with other drives I've used.

I purchased this hard drive It has a backup on it Ive had nothing but triuble with it in my windows 7 I finally removed the WD Backup off of it. My computer still acts up when this drive is being used but not as bad since backup has been removed!

don't bother, and customer support is a joke. They will get back to you, within 2-3 days and then don't give you any helpful information terribe

The installation wizard failed to launch. I downloaded S/W but honestly never knew if it loaded correctly, still don't. I think my data is there but it is an act of faith.. I guess I really didn't need the backup anyway.

I cannot rate this fairly, as it did not work for the intended purpose. This is probably user-error, but i got this storage device to transfer and store data (home videos, movies, etc) from an apple laptop to this. This stated it was adaptable and would permit this. It seemed to require an additional step for this to made possible, but it never worked. I suppose its a straight-forward transfer and storage on pc computers, but not so much for apple.
