    Expand PS4 Storage

I purchased this with one thing in mind, expanding the storage of my PS4 Pro. With the sudden influx of games exceeding 20-50 GB each, one can imagine the need to require a large hard drive. Sitting at 5TB and requiring no external power, the My Passport is perfect. Using the hard drive, even in the PS4, was extremely easy. Requiring you just to plug it in. I was worried that because it is an external hard drive that it would be slower. Causing games to load textures slowly and having longer loading screens. Fortunately, I have found the opposite to be true. With close to 4.5 TB of raw capacity to be used, I don’t foresee myself having a problem with storage anymore. It has proven to be incredibly reliable and fast enough to Be a competent expansion for a PS4

Purchased it one month ago; better price than Amazon. This is the latest model and it is slightly faster than the previous model. Can't comment on its included software because I only use these units for storage (music, photos, videos). Performance is flawless. Powered through the USB connection - no extra AC power unit needed. No need to alter formatting - worked out of the box in my Windows PCs. Higher capacity (an incredible 5T) yet thinner and smaller than previous WD units. Have owned several other WD Passport units for years - none have let me down. Does not get hot - just slightly warm. Opted online for Best Buy standard home delivery and it arrived within a few days.

I’ve stood firmly by cds as storage mediums for the past 30 years. I would back up everything via cd burner. I just didn’t trust external drives. Well one day while at work - my coworker saw me pull out my cd dvd burner to save a file. He and his team of cronies roasted and teased me for the last 30 minutes of my day. The ridicule made me feel low. Made me feel not part of the “crowd.” So I went to Best Buy and bought this thing. Next day I popped this sucker out a the stares I got on this thing, boy oh boy, I bet those coworkers of mine were jealous of seeing this huge black box they had these little small “thumb drives”. You should’ve seen the look on their faces.

I love the WD products. And I love their Passport external portable hard drives! This is my third one over the years and I am so happy with it. I have a lot that I store on external drives and with my other 2 external drives getting close to being full I knew I needed another one. I love that the 5TB size was available and I really love the price. WD is such a good and reliable brand, never disappointed with them! So user-friendly!

Perfect for quick backups on the go with plenty of space and compatibility. 5TB in one small unit means protection of my most important files, projects, and other data, guaranteed. As a musician, I have always used WD portable hard drives to protect, backup, and store data from recording sessions with ease and efficiency. WD external USB portable hard drives have been well known for many years to be a reliable go-to and industry standard in the portable data protection space.

    Great Drives

I've owned dozens of these My Passports in the past from the older 2TB models up until this latest 5TB model and I have not one time had one die on me (The only time one of them died was when I sold it online and the guy said it arrived dead which was most likely a shipping issue or user mishandling). Yes, a 100TB USB drive of the same size would be much better (considering there's a 1TB Micro SD which is the size of a pinky nail) but for what it is, its the best option out there as far as value and reliability with massive storage space plus portability.

Just plug in to a USB port and it works. It's not crazy fast, as it has platters and is not an SSD, but the size, price, and capacity makes up for it. It has encryption if you need that feature. It'll be a little less than 5TB (as is the case with all drives). I have a bunch of these and I haven't had any issues.

Random/Sequential Writes Faster Than 2016 Model,

This model is the latest generation of the many My Passport drives I've owned or purchased. They have proven reliable and good performers. They have incrementally improved with each new generation. This model features a new case design which I feel is much better looking and is slightly smaller than the last version. BOTTOM LINE (for the impatient): This model is a little bit faster than the last (2016) model I bought. I got the black 2TB model and this generation offers up to a 5TB model as well as the usual smaller capacities. This model is just noticeably faster than the last generation on sequential reads and writes. This My Passport has a new design that returns to rounded corners and soft-look matte case. I like this much better than the older one with its cheap-looking (to me) styling. The drive is slightly less thick, wide and long than the 2016 model. In my laptop bag that’s welcome even if not a lot smaller. I’m very pleased with this My Passport drive as with ones purchased over the last decade plus. It’s reliable, fast for a USB mechanical HD and gives a lot of space for a low price.

I didn't really need yet another external drive, but I had expiring Best Buy awards and this was on sale. This drive is small in size but high in capacity and gets power directly from the USB port, so no external power adapter required. Plug it into an available USB 3.0 port and you are done. I have mirrored all my important files from the other drives, so I can tuck this one into the corner of my laptop bag when I travel. It "wakes up" from sleep mode much faster than my older externally powered WD drives, another plus. Highly recommended.

Reliably does what it's intended to do

Bottom line: Good value for an external drive that's reliable and performs well. My specific use case is as an external HD for my XBSX to store my last-gen games. The performance is good, actually seems a little better on the SX than it was on my One X, and the form factor is great. It's quiet, the one light is inconspicuous, the cable it long enough to provide flexibility in placement but short enough that I need to coil it or have extra that clutters the area. That makes it small enough to fit easily on the same shelf as my console. The price at the time of purchase was the same as the 4TB model so this is an even better value.

PROS: I purchased the 5TB with some apprehension as I noted that all brands have a high failure rate. So far, the drive has worked flawlessly. It has worked as advertised (literally a plug and play) for my Windows based system. It is small (almost the same size as the 1TB), fast and incredibly quiet. No heat issues to date. CONS: It could benefit from some anti-slip pads on the bottom surface but you can purchase some at a local hardware store. Occasionally the drive will take 1-2 seconds to re-engage if left dormant but I consider that quite acceptable. The connection cord is on the short side and cannot be easily replaced because of the proprietary connection. Come on WD, why mar an excellent product by leaving off a plug used industry wide? If the unit had a standard connection plug, I would have given it 5 stars.

This WD External Hard Drive is great! With the 5TB storage capacity and 256 AES hardware encryption, it has plenty of storage space for me to securely store my pictures, and documents. Very easy to set up and can easily be configured with a password. It comes with a 3.0 USB cable that can plug into the faster 3.2 USB connections or the slower 2.0 USB because it's backwards compatible. Also has built in software for WD Backup, Security and other WD Utilities for scanning the drive, etc. I particularly like it because of it's small size and portability.
