It's about as small as a mechanical drive this size can get. T. he WD Backup program is good if that's your primary use. Would prefer a USB-C connection rather than the older style (less likely to fail). If using with a laptop like the Surface models or MacBook where size and weight are a consideration, consider SSD drives (although they currently are much pricier.)

I still have a Tb to use in the future. works with both WIN7 and 10 without a glitch. not too large to carry along with my laptop, either. I will definitely recommend this over any thumbdrive product.

This model also comes with encryption and password protection built in. Highly recommended when on sale at Bestbuy.
