I have four of these drives set up in a NAS server. They are whisper quiet and they seem to be a little faster than the previous 4TB drives that I was using. I have been a long time Western Digital user and will continue to be.
I initially bought these drives from NewEgg, and all four of them were bad. They were extremely noisy and none of them were able to format. The noise coming from my NAS sounded like an airplane taking off because of all of the vibration, combined with a bunch of clunking noises. I blame these failures on the way that they were packaged. I couldn't believe when I opened the box and they were just laying loose in the bottom of the box with barely any bubble wrap. I'm sure that the drives were destroyed during shipping, as they would have rolled and flipped all around. They gave me a full refund, but instead of having them ship me more drives in the same crappy box I decided to try Best Buy. The package that I received this time was packaged very nicely.

I have been changing my nas drive from Ironwolf to the Wd Red plus, the Ironwolf are rated very good but they run hot and a little loud for me, originally these WD Red plus were advertised as 5400 rpm, one of the reason why I switched, and they are really quiet as the 5400 rpms, and then they were tested and turned out to be running at 7200 rpm, Western Digital put out a revision to their claim of 5400 rpm, instead saying that they performed as 5400 rpm, not speedwise but as quiet as the 5400 rpm drives, I can attest to that since I have been using them and they are indeed quiet, as far as being cooler that all depends on the situation, meaning fan settings and ambient temp etc. etc.. I was disappointed at first when I found out about the real speed and I cannot complain about the noise since there is none....there have been misinformation also about the smr and cmr drives that manufacturers not telling the consumers, but these plus drives are all CMR. Hopefully, Companies would be honest in their products.. but regardless, I can recommend these drives if you are looking for reliability and low noise drives.

This HDD is great it is full still has good read and write speeds. I use it for plex with my blu ray collection to stream to my apple tv. The only thing I will say it that it tends to sleep after a while and takes a few seconds to wake up.

Quiet and fast, only slight sound when drive spins up. Not made for mounting in a PC but can secure with two screws. Alot quieter then Toshiba or Seagate.

Make sure that your computer case accepts hard drives that only have 2 screw threads on the sides. My drive trays in my case needed the legacy 3 screw holes on the sides and bottom of the drive. Technical support is a nightmare and waste alot of your time, ask you for photos and get back to you in a week or so, with more questions on this very simple concept.

Nothing spectacular, just a decent HDD for a NAS. Not sure I need 7200 and if 5400 would be enough.

Put four of the 10TB Red Plus drives in a Synology DS418. No issues identifying the drives or initializing RAID. Quiet and cool. Didn't budge over 40° C while moving over 11TB of data for 24 hours straight. Able to max out gigabit ethernet LAN, speed seems fine to me.

Works perfectly in my home server. Runs a little hot and depending on where your 3.5" drives mount, you may need to adjust or add a fan for airflow.
