I had a drive fail in one of my arrays on the home server. I didn’t want to wait and order a Dell certified drive in case another drive would die before the replacement arrived and I would end up having to restore the entire array from backup. Popped the old drive out, swapped drives on the sled and popped it back in. The drive was instantly recognized and began rebuilding the data without issues.

I had ordered two of the WD Red Plus 4TB HDD from Best Buy thinking they were the current models. I didn’t notice that they were the discontinued model with only 64MB cache and not the current 128 or 256MB cache. I am returning these and ordered the 128MB cache models for the same price from another retailer. It was my oversight but would think they’d be sold at a lower price than what the newer models are sold for.
