Bought this game because the game play look great. It is a little bit difficult some parts but it is fun. Plus the extra stuff that come the package is great. The manuel is beautiful and colorful. I never played the original game but I gave this one a chance and I don't regret it. It is a classic game

A fantastic looking remake of a Sega Master System game from the 1980's, The Dragon's Trap is an action platformer that puts you in the shoes of the titular WonderBoy (or WonderGirl, if you prefer), who suffers a curse that transforms him or her into a variety of creatures, and must seek out a cure while using various animal abilities to make their way. While it has a modern coat of paint with a fantastic graphical style (you can toggle between it and the original graphics), it still retains much of the gameplay that reminds you that, yes, this IS a Master System title. Hit boxes are occasionally a bit too big, and you will often find yourself wandering around trying to find the next objective. Keep a browser page open to GameFAQS is what I'm saying. Some sort of optional hint system would have been a nice addition.
The game is also relatively short, an experienced player should be able to blow through it in a matter of hours, and you can build your character up with additional upgrades to make them practically invincible by you reach the end boss. Fortunately, the game offers multiple difficulty levels to play if you find the game to be too easy.
Despite a few flaws, I found myself enjoying the game, and would recommend it to anyone looking for an enjoyable action platformer.

A fantastic remake of a Sega classic Wonder Boy III, Dragon's trap is as beautiful as it is unique. The hand-drawn art, seamless transition from modern to retro graphics (complete with nostalgic tweaks like grid lines, old monitor effects, and retro sound), and simple yet cool story create a gorgeous and challenging game that has only gotten better with age. Even the game case art is beautiful, and to mimic the games reversible aesthetics, the cover insert is reversible; brilliant.
As if that wasn't enough of a reason to purchase this title, the physical copy also comes with a high quality dragon key-chain and mini disc copy of the soundtrack (which is also fantastic.

Great game for the Switch. Multiple animals you can turn into like in Shantae. Lots of hidden areas to discover. Game is not super long but has some challenging areas. Boss fights are great just the right difficulty. Music is amazing. Highly recommend it.

Wow it must have been one of the coolest/better games back in 1989! Even when I was changing the new style to the retro one for a minute or two I found myself still liking the game. The different characters and abilities were pretty fun, but the mouse-man combat style is frustrating (very short range). The game is somewhat hard in general, but it is not that bad in my opinion. The graphics are awesome and the bosses are good, but frustrating (you need to hit them on the head and it is easy to take damage if you get too close). I find the price a little high therefore I bought it when it was 25% off. I completed the game with almost everything in 7 hours, but I only completed two of ''the unknown'' sections as I did not enjoy them or understand the purpose of them. The game is not that long therefore I would suggest you to wait for a sale if you are not already convinced. The platforming aspect was a little stiff in general, but barely noticeable.

I never played the original version of this old-school game, but this remake by Lizardcube is truly delightful. The art style is a joy along with the redone soundtrack. Though short, I loved every minute of it. Super-solid platforming adventure.

I never got to play the original Wonderboy but if I did, I could tell I would love it. They recreated it down to every pixel in terms of gameplay and controls, but with the new beautiful hd textures. You even have the option of switching back to the old graphics and sound at the touch of a button. The game had adventure, cool bosses and dungeons, fun items to explore for and with. If you like Zelda or metroidvania style games, this is for you. Only thing I'll warn, if your expecting a story, just like games of old, it's lacking in game. But I don't consider that a bad thing.

After enjoying Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom Kingdom I was really curious about Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, the game that first featured animal transformations in the Wonder Boy series. Even though it's a pixel-by-pixel remake of the 1989 Master System game, The Dragon's Trap has it's own charm that brought me back for multiple replays. The new art style and music are a big part of that, and I love that you can revert back to 8-bit graphics and sound at the push of a button, but I think the original game just got so much right and has fun game play with a bit of exploration thrown in. I also enjoyed trying to collect all the weapons and armor. Highly recommended for your Nintendo Switch game collection.

Wonder Boy The Dragon's Trap is a remaster of the classic Sega Master Title game. Animations and graphics are beautiful, as is the revamped musical score. The platforming feels just like it did many years ago.

Good but Shows its Age

This is a really fun game but definitely shows its age in some places. It would have been nice to quick save anywhere in game and it can feel a bit like a grind at times when you need a specific item to progress but it isn't clear how to obtain it. At the same time that can also be enjoyable for a certain type of person and I did enjoy that the game doesn't hold your hand like most modern games do. The ability to switch between the game's original graphics and music and the modern graphics and music at any time is an awesome feature and one I would love to see done with more games.
This is a game that players of the original Wonder Boy III will enjoy but it's definitely not for everyone.

I really love nicalis games due to the goodies that you get with them and how fun their games are. Wonder Boy is a very beautiful game with a very nice soundtrack. The art style is very nice. I like the fact that you can switch between art and music styles from the original and modern Wonder Boy. The key chain, manual, and CD are also really cool. When you get a nicalis game you are honestly in for a real treat!

The game looks great and is well made, but it's despite the visual polish it's still a game from 1989 underneath. Since I didn't play the Wonder Boy games growing up there's no nostalgia for me and the overall experience leaves me wanting for some of the missing modern gaming conventions. If you liked this games as a kid or are interested in retro gaming then I'd suggest to pick it up, other wise you're probably better off passing on this one.

The developers truly loved the original and you can tell from this game! you can change back to retro wonder boy visuals and sound...the good old oldschool difficulty is back so dont be ashamed to look up a few things because this game is a fun reminder that sega was nintendos best competition at one point! highly recommended

The fact that you can switch between two different styles of art in the game is a great plus. This, like many other games on the switch, relies on a simpler gameplay style that delivers fun for old school fans. Even those who may be new to this type of game should give a try.

A wonderful graphical update of a classic Sega Master System title without any changes to the core gameplay. With a live Musical arrangement, smooth hand drawn graphics and environments this is a retro update done right.
