A Worthy Sequel, Some Performance Issues

XCOM Enemy Unknown and its expansion were some of my favorite games of all time, so I had high hopes for the sequel. I am happy to write that I have not been left disappointed. XCOM2 is a PC exclusive that brings back just about everything good from the first game, while allowing the quite active modding community to change it even further as they wish. Aliens are more diverse and in many cases tougher, but there are just as much equipment and new items to tip things back in the player's favor. In many cases, the overarching 'countdown' mechanic and the turn-limit on many maps make XCOM2 more difficult than its predecessor, but there are already plenty of mods that can tune said difficulty to the personal tastes of the player. If I had to make a complaint, it would be the rather poor optimization that causes the occasional dip in frame-rate, and the rare crash, but thankfully both seem to becoming increasingly rare as patches are released. I would highly recommend XCOM2 to anyone fond of the first game, or anyone fond of turn-based strategy games in general.

Turn based game that effectively makes you feel the arrival of all the doom that was looming in the last XCom. Every turn feels purposeful and stressful, odds are stacked against you, and you will probably lose many a squad member.
If you played XCom before I can completely recommend this. Updated graphics and even more brutal than before.
My only complaint is even a month later performance is pretty disappointing. Especially since I just got a new graphics card (a 970) in January. The devs have promised optimization so we'll have to see...

New to the series, but enjoy it very much. I recommend any new to this game, try it on easy mode first. My best comparison would be playing a Darks Souls game for the first time. It's a hardcore turn base strategy game that is very rewarding once you learn the different mechanics.

This game took everything they had from Enemy unknown and improved upon it. They worked with modders of the last game and you can tell with the imporvoments they made. My only gripe, and its big enough to take it down a star is the launch performance issues. This is a problem that seems to happen with many PC games recently, hopefully a patch will come soon. As of right now my fairly beefy PC can only run it around 30-45 fps with a lot of features disabled.

Xcom 2 is easily one of the best games I have played in a very long time. The storyline is engaging, but not difficult to stay on track.
The game is actually difficult and punishes poorly thought out moves. It has been far too long since I have played a challenging strategy game.

This game challenges you to think first, and then move slowly and carefully. At the same time, many of the missions make you move quickly to achieve your goals. This conflict between careful and quick creates much of the tension. A must play game!

If you enjoyed the first remake my Firaxis, Enemy Unknown, then it's a no-brainer you will enjoy this sequel. The game is far more challenging than the first game, and can be strategically frustrating, but in a good way. My only complaint is with some of the time-based missions, as they really force you to abandon sound strategy for reckless brute force. All in all, this is a worthy successor and improves on many of the flaws in the first game, while retaining that turn based old school feel.

When the game launched, it was barely playable on my rig. I was getting constant unexplained frame drops and the game seemed to chug even though my system meet the suggested requirements. After the patch, the game is running much smoother and, now that I've experienced the game without issue, it is more XCOM which is always a good thing.

I played the first and this sequel improves from the first. More customizing, better graphics, and easier base management which I enjoyed. Some may not though. Same turned based feel from the first game. You just hope you didn't make the wrong move to lose your squad. Makes for good tension. All in all I love the game.
