So glad to see this franchise get the love and attention it deserves. Tells an amazing and immersive story, which looks great. Easy to use battle system, and lots of playable characters.

I never had the chance to play this on the Wii. I am glad it was ported over to the switch for multiple reasons, but the primary being that it is now a portable game. Xenoblade Chronicles offers a moderately in depth aspect to a really easy to play storyline with a different feel. It has some great Character development and you can get lost in the sidequests for hours. Which leads to the only thing I do not like, that is the huge maps that you have to spend hours running across to complete the sidequests early on. But if you are looking for a time wasting post apocalyptic world to live in, Get this game! ESRB rating is Teen.

Omg this game is so gorgeous. Monolith did a great job with the remaster. The soundtrack is good and I love the voice acting. The story is good and the weird combat system takes a moment to get used to but will keep on your toes. Did I mention how breathtakingly beautiful it is makes you wish you visit this world.

I really loved this game, and judging by the 120 hours I invested in completing the main story and as many side quests as I could, I’d say I got my money’s worth. Now, I never played the original release on the Wii. I tried the new 3DS version, but I struggled with the 3DS smaller screen and never completed it. Then Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the prequel for it came for the switch and I completed both. In sight of this release of the first game for the Switch, I was a little afraid that playing back this older game would make me not like it or get a dated feeling from it; but that was not the case. I feel like it holds really well on its own and there are enough differences regarding the story, the characters, and the combat compared to the other 2 franchise titles on the Switch to make it unique. Also, I can say that this switch version did it for me. I played it docked in order to be able to see every detail of the combat on the TV, which is important I think since a lot happens in the screen at once during the combat sequences. Something I really liked about this game, is that there’s no single way of becoming more powerful in case you’re stuck with a boss or some other powerful monster: you could potentially just level up by defeating a bunch of baddies, but there are other ways like doing side quests (and there are tons of those!), you could buy/trade/sell items you find on your journey in exchange for armor /weapons, you could also increase your affinity between characters by swapping them around and have them fight together for a while or give presents to each other to make them battle more effectively, you could craft new gems that boost your offensive or defensive capabilities when applied on your equipment or you could just explore a new area on the map that’s not your goal (the game rewards you for every new area you discover and grants experience points) and in the process fight monsters to become stronger and get new items to fill out the collectopaedia (which also gives you armor/gems for items of the same tier or area collected), etc Another thing I was impressed with was the combat and the uniqueness of all the characters. In my case, everything became much clearer when I started swapping characters around and decided to use other characters instead of Shulk, the main character. Understanding how each characters’ talent art and other normal arts tie together is crucial in determining which ones to equip at a time and which characters to bring overall to a boss battle or for regular battles in a specific area. The story overall is very well told and has a depth I really enjoyed; plus it features some very interesting twists and turns. Also the characters are all very likeable and don’t feel as cliched as other games of the genre can be; and they all show evolution. As an extra touch I found nice, I started my game with some extra money when the system detected I had played xenoblade Chronicles 2 in the past and had a save file for it (and I did beat it as well!). Also, even after you beat the main campaign, there is still more fun to be had with the possibility of a new game+ (which allows you to inherit some of the items/achievements/equipment you acquired in your playthrough into a new one) and an epilogue, which adds a few hours. In conclusion I loved this game and would encourage any RPG lover that hasn’t tried it to give it a go. A personal tip: don’t be afraid of experimenting (swapping characters around, even if it means controlling a character other than Shulk, swapping arts, trying different gems, etc). I loved that they decided to release this game on the Switch and that I played it till the end.

I first purchased Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii when it came out in 2012. For reasons I can't explain, I never got very far into the game. I would then buy a New 3DS and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and I did get much deeper into it, perhaps because of the dub only audio. With it coming to Switch, i was determined to play it this time and I did. 156 hours to do mostly everything, including all but 19 of the achievements. Nor did I play the extra content, Future Connected. Xenoblade Chronicles was a rather fantastic JRPG with good music, a complex story, and some sluggish quest mechanics. When you start playing you are told that quests are completely optional, they won't impact the story at all, but they do help. Problem is doing these quests basically requires you keep talking to every NPC with a unique name over and over again. This causes relationship (affinity) to change with not only you, but with other NPCs. As this changes you get quests. It's like talking to everyone around you in hopes that eventually somebody will like you enough to ask you to get them something from the grocery store and then you go fetch some items for them. With much of the time taken doing this, it can grow dull especially when said items may only appear in rare treasure chest drops. That said, that's my only real complaint aside from translation issues from lame localization. The story like most Xeno games deals with things like religion, race, and psychology. Things are not always black and white. The music has been updated and sounds a bit better than it originally did, but the original version of the music is there if you prefer that. I said it 8 years ago, I'll say it again... The environments in this game seem ripped straight out of MMO, Final Fantasy XI. They are nostalgic to me and I love exploring them. There is a day/night cycle in which enemies can change. They are often huge in size and can sometimes be a little empty feeling, but if you venture out into the real world, not every bit is covered with something to see. Sometimes an open field is just that, an open field. Combat is actively busy almost like an action game. You only really control the party leader (which can be changed) for the most part, and depending on how you're leveling up and the equipment you're wearing, it can be very challenging. There are skills to level up and change which alter how groups chain attacks together or even their role in combat. Enemies range from organic to machines. From small to gigantic. You will encounter enemies your level and you will encounter enemies meant for the end of the game that will kill you in a single hit. You might even fall off a cliff a few times and die. Death is not punished though which is fortunate. There is no GAME OVER here. When you die you simply return to the last landmark location (places you can fast travel to) you were near without exp loss or anything. After 156+ hours, it was satisfying to finally play and finish this game, especially since I own 3 versions of it. Now I might get around to finally playing Xenoblade Chronicles X or 2, both of which I also own and never played.

The Great: Xenoblade has a great story and amazing entertaining music. The environments are very beautiful and unique with each area feeling special. The Good: The characters are pretty decent as well, they may not be the most enigmatic group of heroes but they are still likeable. The combat isn't for everyone, you auto attack and have attack skills on a cooldown bar like an MMO. However, it can be fun and have good depth when you get used to the finer details like positioning, toppling/daze, spike damage, chain attacks, buffs, etc. There are a lot of factors going on in battle if you pay attention, its not just standing there auto attacking. The Negative: The biggest negative for the game is that it is very grindy with a frustrating amount of fetch quests and time consuming back tracking, which for perfectionists like me means you have a lot of boring stuff to do before moving on with the fun story. Of course, you can skip these quest but you will miss out on gear obtained from side quests and have low affinity between your characters. Overall, it doesn't hold the game back too much if you are used to classic jrpgs.

If you’re a newcomer to the Xenoblade series then the Definitive Edition is the de facto place to begin what is an undoubtedly epic journey. You’ll encounter more side quests that you can shake a stick at. More characters to grind affinity levels with and more amazing locales to wander around in than a lot of games can provide. The music is excellent and while the voice acting can be a little cringe at times it absolutely adds to the charm. Each character plays completely different from one another and the game begs you to try everybody out to discover your own preference. The battle mechanics are daunting at first but once you understand the basics it all becomes organized chaos. The customization options are off the charts with you being able to keep the stats of whatever your strongest equipment offers while changing the look to tailor your fit. If you’re a veteran Xenoblade player and this is your third time buying it then you’ll be happy to know the upgrades and quality of life issues more than justify the triple dip. I love Xenoblade and while I freely admit the resolution is less than stellar in docked and handheld mode, the game looks completely fine. I wish the Switch was more powerful to accommodate a higher resolution but what we have is adequate. All in all the Xenoblade series is a must own if you enjoy epic spanning jrpg’s.

I think this game is absolutely phenomenal. I think the story is well written and due to the performance of the voice actors parts that really matter really pack a punch along side the amazing soundtrack of the game. If you haven't played this game you should definitely give it a try. Its characters are so memorable. The world is an absolute joy to explore and its combat is absolutely fun. Although the love for the combat will differ per person.

Xenoblade Chronicles was already my favorite game of all time even before this released. And let me say, the result was worth everything spent on it. Astounding, vast open world for you to explore, edge-of-your-seat storytelling that’ll make you stay up entire nights trying to see it all, hundreds of side quests to keep you busy even post-game, and not to mention the characters and soundtrack. Anyone remotely familiar with Xenoblade are at least acutely aware of both, but they are phenomenal. And with HD graphics to enhance the game we all love beyond its old potential, even diehard veterans of the series have something to return to, especially with the side story, Future Connected. The combat is easy to learn, but difficult to master. There are countless ways to play and battle, so there’s no wrong way to play. I cannot sing enough praise for this game, and hope that many others can experience the same love of the series as a whole. For the game itself, I rate it 9.7/10. Get it and play it. That’s all there is to it.

Having played the Wii and 3DS versions previously, I'd say this is hands-down the best version. I'm not going to dive too deep into the actual story, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The characters are likable, the dialog is witty, and the game mechanics, while somewhat repetitive, are interesting and engaging. It's sort of like playing an MMO with the party mechanics. So far I've played further than the previous versions. This is due to the greatly updated graphics, animations, remastered soundtrack, additional content, and many quality-of-life improvements. This is quite a long game, so if you're willing to put in the time, I think you'll certainly be glad you did. Highly recommended for action RPG fans!
