Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent performance and competitive price of the Custom Backplate XXX OC Radeon RX 480 8GB GDDR5 graphics card. Many appreciate the included backplate, but some users note that the card can run warm and produce noticeable fan noise. Concerns have also been raised regarding the card's power consumption exceeding expectations. Overall, the positive feedback on performance and price seems to outweigh the negative comments about temperature and noise.

I've always built my own PCs since I was a kid, I got sort of busy in the past 6 years though and let my PC slide... So here I was in 2017 with a XFX 7770 from 2012 transplanted into a newer rig (6 core AMD FX 3.9GHz + 16GB RAM) and a new copy of Titanfall 2 thinking i was still going to be "ok". This was not the case. If you're planning on gaming; your rig is only as good as your gfx card. Titanfall 2 barely managed to run if even at all. Fast forward to me frantically researching gfx cards to find myself at a crossroads between a Nvidia GTX 1070 and the AMD RX 480 8GB. Honestly, it came down to the price and my needs. The whole reason for all the backstory is that I was running a 5 year old gfx card in my system until finally upgrading it now. You can get a loooooong time out of a gfx card if you aren't hardcore into gaming. Considering that, if you just want to get in to current available games and and do so with nearly maxed out settings while keeping a "relative" budget.... this is the card you want. If you don't care about your budget? Honestly, at least take a peek at the GTX 1070 you'd probably be a bit ahead in the performance department. I'm estimating a 4 year run out of this card unless VR really takes off in the next year or 2... then make it a 2 year run. Noteworthy items: Not the quietest, but not the loudest either. Make sure you keep it clean! it just has a single turbine. Looks nice in the case, not gaudy. It runs the HTC Vive with ZERO issue. Only 1 HDMI, the rest are Displayports (3 total) Sorry to be wordy, but I hope this helps a few of you!

Finally found an AMD card that, performance wise, can keep up with the nvidia crowd. I read before purchase, and have found to be true in real life, that this card outperforms my old, by nine months, GTX 970, and at a pretty good size drop in price. I was , at first, a bit leary of the stock cooler setup, but have not run into any problems, not even close. Then there's the custom back plate. If you are thinking evga or similar, forget it, this thing is thick, say twice the thickness of the evga piece I put on the 970 to keep it from bowing when I liquid cooled it. The price on these makes another Cross Fire experiment for me imminent. Oh, and this card is pretty quiet, but I'm used to the two fan ACX or the extra radiator and fans of my last project.

PROS: - Best Polaris GPU available - Runs most AAA games at max settings @ 1080p, mixed settings at 1440p - Backplate helps hide the solder points CONS: - Cooler is sub-par, resulting in louder operation to keep temps reasonable OTHER THOUGHTS: In order to get the most out of this card, you should go into Radeon Software and adjust power and temperature limits in Wattman

I am a miner of crypto coins . I have four four card rigs . I use 16 gpus to mine cards. The card was a good price it works it is efficient power wise. It is a good card for mining coins such as Eth coin. I rarely game so I can't give a good gaming review but I do mine and this card was worth the price if you mine.

I replaced an aging HD 6950 with this RX480. What a great upgrade. Now for the biggest question, why not the GTX 1060? Well, I wanted an ultrawide 2560x1080 monitor and purchased one a while back. Unfortunately there aren't any g-sync monitors in this spec, but there are Freesync monitors available. So I went with the available technology. I have a R9 290 in another box with all other specs exactly the same, and this outpaces it just a bit. However, it's much quiet and much cooler than the 290. I have no problems holding a steady 60fps framerate in 2560x1080 in just about everything I play, with details max or near. Overall, highly recommended for anyone not wanting to jump to the price of a 1070.

So there is a lot of reviews out there that are saying this card has heat issues and that it's using more power through the PCI-E then AMD disclosed previously. So far for me I've done a 10% OC to the GPU and a 20% addition to the power available on the Sapphire branded one I purchased. I've treaked the fan a little and have been able to keep this card at 45 C under full load playing games at 1440p with ultra everything. No it doesn't sound like a race car, it's right at the same noise level as my PC overall. I build my own PC that includes 6 case fans total, they are Tt Riing fans so you can look them up. Performance on this card I'd have to say is really amazing keeping in mind what it cost, I'm upgrading from a Refrence GTX 970 that I OC'd that cost almost $200 more then the 480. This card peforms overall a lot better then my last one, I'll eventually purchase a 2nd one when I get a VR headset. So final thoughts... Buy this card when you see it availabe online or in stores, don't wait, buy it. You'll be very happy you did.

Working good and pretty quite. Make sure you are running a 64 bit processor. Amd no longer has driver software that supports 32 bit for this graphics card.

Hit or Miss, Can't Argue The Power

I was able to get my hands on one of these AMD GPUs before it sold out. Main reason for me to get this is because a friend of mine wanted to buy my GTX 970 off of me really badly, and noticed at times that the RX 480 can be comparable with the GTX 970. My, this RX 480 is SOME-THING! I was able to put through quite a number of games on how it REALLY compares to the GTX 970 on stability, quality, and efficiency. Going through the AMD's Software Tools and other 3rd Party Tools and Software, all of my games are really stable and hasn't crashed through hours of gaming. FPS-wise, it's definitely a hit-or-miss with the GTX 970 with 45-60 FPS, IE, some areas the GTX 970 had bit of FPS drops meanwhile the RX 480 goes through without any drops, and vice-versa. Efficiency on the RX 480 is also very comparable to the GTX 970, in terms of power usage and how much load it puts into the game. Normally, I would overclock it, but I let the Factory clock do the work, and it manages to handle everything and without putting much power into games that the GTX 970 can't, but again, it also happens the other way around too where the GTX 970 handles everything too. Price and specs on the RX 480 is a no brainer. With the cost of $250 with 8GB of VRAM, it's something I had to go with, a bit more cost-efficient Video Card that can contain the quality with more VRAM. The GTX 970 with 4GB of VRAM was something I started out with, a high graphical games and thought it can handle the max, but soon it was hitting the max itself in today's new games. Conclusion? I'd say that this can bit a true hit-or-miss GPU against the GTX 970, in terms of games and capabilities, but in actual overall views, the Price Point of $250 and having 8GB of VRAM is something to consider in today's computer builds and upgrades. Software tools don't matter as it's only a matter of your customization for your needs of power or efficiency. So, again, price and extra VRAM is something to think ahead, and chances are I might go for another GPU like this to CrossFire them! The product is just right, as expected. The only problem I had, was with BestBuy workers. I previously chatted to assure that I could test the card before leaving the store, to be sure that ist not DOA, and I could take the filght with the card and dont have to return to the US just to the RMA. As I said, I have the confirmation by chat for doing this test on the store. Then at the store, the workers there told my that they dont to that, and they didnt recognize the statement made by the other worker by chat. So, I will start buying things at Amazon from now on, until BestBuy comes back to be the best place to shop face to face. Regards, Juan Delia
