Our old receiver was fried so after doing research I can came across this model. The receiver was very simple to set up and produces great sound without any annoying buzzing. It also has great ventilation without the need for fans. Definitely buy if you're looking for a budget sound system.

I had a receiver that didn't work with 4K video. I purchased this to replace the old one. Works great in my home theater, has less power than my old receiver but still has enough and sound clear even at high volumes. Excellent receiver especially for the price.

Open Box Review - Great Experience

    Posted .

This is as much a review of my Open Box experience with this receiver than it is a review of the receiver itself. I had decided to purchase either the Yamaha RX -V379 or the Denon AVR-S510 to update my home theater. My previous Yamaha receiver still delivered great sound after 20 years, but I wanted something that could handle the HDMI inputs to coordinate my plasma (still the best!) TV, Roku 3, and Blue-Ray DVD Player...plus I wanted the bluetooth connectivity to stream directly from my phone. The receiver powers a 5.1 Dolby speaker system built into my ceiling, as well as pre-wired stereo speakers installed in the ceiling throughout 3 bedrooms and a dining room in the house. I also wanted a bit of future proofing with HDCP 2.2, and both receivers provided everything on my wish list. What caught my eye was an Open Box Yamaha RX-V379 offered on Best Buy's website for $185 in excellent condition. I had never purchased an open box item before, so was a bit apprehensive. But the almost $100 in savings, plus the original manufacturer's warranty, plus the ability to return the item to Best Buy (even though the nearest store is an hour away from me) convinced me to give it a try. Heck, it's another $100 I can put toward the new BDI entertainment center to house all this stuff. The Yamaha arrived in two days, beating Best Buy's estimated ship time of 5 days. Prior to opening the box, which was the original Yamaha box carefully re-sealed, I watched an unboxing video on YouTube for this item. For the first time I realized a benefit to otherwise very boring unboxing videos; I would be able to compare a factory fresh box to what I received in my Open Box. I was extremely pleased when I opened the box and found that not only was every item shown in the Youtube video in the box, it was actually packed exactly as the new items, right down to the two new batteries for the remote control. I carefully inspected the receiver itself, and as with everything else, it was pristine. Not a fingerprint on it, let alone a ding or a scratch! Perfect. Even though Best Buy had advertised this Open Box item as "excellent" condition, I was extremely impressed...it looked exactly as a new, never opened item would have been. I can't guarantee all Open Box items arrive this way, but I know that this one did. As for the receiver itself, it performs exactly as expected. The YPAO system did an excellent job automatically balancing the speakers, and it was easy to set up the remote for one-button operation for the TV, DVD, Roku, and Bluetooth (with customized sound "scene" for each). Granted, the button on the remote and receiver is pre-labeled Radio where I put the Bluetooth, but even my fading memory can handle that transition...plus the receiver's screen says Bluetooth when engaged. BTW, I didn't bother setting up the AM or FM antenna because where I live there are no stations worth programming - I'd rather create my own stations on iHeart radio and stream them directly from my phone. Bottom-line: 5 stars to Yamaha for their excellent receiver and to Best Buy for their Open Box product. I highly recommend both! I will need a second receiver to set up my downstair's man cave system, and will be scanning the Open Box offerings in the future to snag another Yamaha (or try the Denon if it is an equally good deal).

This unit is a replacement for a second entertainment room. It's main purpose is to provide audio for a tv with poorbuiltin speakers. The unit was easy to setup. The included mic balanced the system perfectly. No manual adjustment was needed. Sound quality is very good, crisp and well balanced. Ample power for the 15x15 room that it is in. The performance is well worth the price which was low relative to comparable units. It would have been nice if the unit came with a remote IR receiver so it could be controlled without opening the cabinet door. Back panel had RCA HDMI and DVI inputs.

This is the third home theater receiver I have owned and it is by far the easiest to set up and use. The auto speaker setup worked perfectly and required no additional tweaking from me to meet the unique shape of our family room. Picture improved dramatically from the last unit (Pioneer). Various sound profiles are fun. Bluetooth input easy to set up contrary to reviews. No Airplay is the only shortcoming.

I have had only a few yamaha receivers, the reason being that they last forever and the only reason why i get a new one is to upgrade to a latest model. I am very happy with the ease of use and really surprised by the clarity of the sound. My new yamaha receiver is paired with all polk audio speakers and i love it. My main speakers are the vintage sda srs 2.3, wich are very power hungry but the receiver does a very good job feeding them. This receiver gives very good sound quality when paired with good speakers and for the price you cant go wrong

This is my 3rd Yamaha receiver of this model type. The first one (beta test) fried out in a thunder storm due to a nearby lightning strike. The replacement shorted out a capacitor so I gave it to my son who is an electronics wiz to fix. I bought this model, it's actually a step down from the previous (more expensive version) but at the same time it is a huge improvement. The only features it lacks are a USB port and an ethernet connection, but I wasn't using those functions as I have other alternatives I prefer. The receiver puts out a great sound on a 5.1 speaker system, and there are plenty of EQ settings to color the sound for a variety of purpose (TV, TV sports, movies, music, gaming, etc.) There are also options to individually tweak the EQ settings for each speaker, options for alternative sound sources, etc. For the price you can't beat it, and there is more than enough power for typical home systems.

This product was easy to set up and is easy to use. It does a great job of delivering 5.1 surround sound, including TrueHD and dts-hd as well as ultra hd video, which I use it for with a Roku 4, a PC and a 4k television. It is a bargain at this price ($279)

I had not purchased a new a/v receiver for over 20 years. I had run out of i/o connections and the rest of my system had been upgraded over time. So it was time to upgrade the centerpiece. Set-up was easy once I performed a system reset ( I purchased an "open box" system that had retained settings from the previous user.) While I have not explored all the options and settings yet, all the essential operations were easy to perform. The power is clean and balanced and meshed well with my Klipsch speakers (center, left, right.) While not top of the line, it's a good, solid model for the average user.

Retired my 20 yr old Yamaha . Still sounded incredible but no HDMI's. Didnt need countless inputs and outputs. No frills but 4k ready and clean power output. Polk Audio front, rear and center. Velodyne DPS sub. Very pleased with sound quality and great price.

About a 100 watt upgrade in power, but an awesome upgrade in picture and sound. UltraHD never looked so good. Easy set up, the surround even tunes itself. Yea, that easy. Looks and sounds fantastic.

I was looking for a tuner to replace my older Denon unit. I had a couple Denons, and while they are built solid, they are a little difficult to get properly configured. I was looking for a simple tuner that would sound great and be extremely easy to set up. My current setup has stereo speakers and a sub - eventually I will upgrade to 5.1, so that was important when looking at candidates. I ended up going with the Yamaha RX-V379BL and I am glad I did. The mix of attactive cost and included features hit the sweet spot. If only this unit had WiFi, I would be perfectly happy. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a great sounding yet simple to use receiver!

So, I was listening to music on my iPad through the Bluetooth feature on the Yamaha RX-V379 receiver and the receiver shut down. Not thinking much about it, I started to listen again and the receiver shut down again. This repeated for the third time. Now the receiver would not turn on. Too late, I refer to the manual and see that if shutdown happens three times, the receiver locks up and must be serviced. You know the old saying, fool me once ... Well, I was the fool. Besides that, the receiver is great. Straightforward to set up, relatively easy to use, very adaptable performance with lots of options for personal sound preference, and well written manual and videos available at the website. I'm looking forward to getting it back from being serviced.

I had to replace a defective Marantz receiver and researched many different options. Eventually went with this Yamaha model. Very easy setup, no issues. The sound field options are very comprehensive and you can get the best sound experience whatever you are watching. Using with Sharp LCD TV, DirecTV, Sony Blu-Ray player and Apple TV; all with HDMI connections.

Bought this for a new home theater system. Have it hooked up to four tower speakers, center speaker, and 10" sub. Everything worked flawlessly, easy to setup. Bluetooth works very well with no drop in sound quality. Only problem I had was I don't think the auto calibration was working right.... ended up calibrating it myself. Highly recommended!
