Q: Do I need a phone to set the lights up, if I'm not planning on using them as smart lights?
A: Hello Joe, Yes, you would need to download the Ring App on smartphone in order to setup and fully use Ring Smart Lights, including the Solar Steplight. A Ring Smart Lighting Bridge is required for setup. Ring Smart lights run on a power efficient, long-range RF(radio frequency) network. The Bridge converts the RF signals to wifi, to deliver information from the system to you in the form of alerts or diagnostic information. It also translates commands from you sent on wifi to the RF network to control the lights.
