    Synopsis

    Rock of Ages
A small-town girl and a big-city boy find their fates intersecting on the Sunset Strip, riding a wave of romance through the height of the "hair metal" scene as the off-Broadway musical rocks its way to the big screen courtesy of choreographer-turned-director Adam Shankman (A Walk to Remember, Hairspray). Arriving in Hollywood with stars in her eyes, Sherrie (Julianne Hough) meets Drew (Diego Boneta), and together they plunge headlong into the local rock scene. Meanwhile, as Sherrie struggles to stay afloat in a churning sea of rock 'n' roll excess, she gets swept off her feet by audacious rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise). Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, and Bryan Cranston co-star in a movie featuring music by Journey, Def Leppard, Poison, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Joan Jett, and REO Speedwagon. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I really didn't know what to expect when I first saw this, but I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. The plot is pretty standard boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl, plus some side stories. The highlight, of course, is the music. This is basically a musical with the songs of that era and a plot crafted around them. The leads are okay, but the treat is the other, better known actors in various other roles, including Tom Cruise as the aging rock star who finds his groove again. This version came with an Ultraviolet digital version, which along with the sale price made it a very good value.

Love everything about this movie!! Love the music of the classic rock bands; The casting selections, story line and the oxymorons throughout the movie. Seeing this movie makes me want to take a road trip to NY to see the broadway musical. J. Hough is an awesome singer and performer; she is perfect in her role as Sherri. My seven year old son loved Hey Man's antics; especially when he was tearing up Paul's office. Tom Cruise was so awesome as Stacee Jaxx! The sarcasm and black humor throughout is so great!! Like I said before love love love this movie!!

If you liked the 70's - 90's for music, and you don't try to read to much into it, this movie is pretty good. If you are looking for fine cinema, you will be disappointed. The acting is fair to average, and the plethora of music and acting idols from that era show exactly why they are now doing movies like this, their talents were limited then, and many are non-existant now. That said, it is not a horrible movie. My wife and I enjoyed the music, and even the limited plot within it, but I probably will not watch it but maybe once more.

I love that Hollywood is bringing back musical movies, but this one should never have been conceived. Think Rocky Horror Picture Show without the following, crossed with Mama Mia. I actually liked both of those movies for different reasons, but this movie was vile and plotless. It felt like the story was built to fit between pre-chosen songs vs songs being written to compliment the story. And Mr. Cruise, put your shirt back on!!!! You're too old to be so exposed. YEUCH!!!

I love 70s and 80s rock and metal, so I was really interested to see this movie. Definitely some funny parts, especially Tom Cruise's obvious parody of Axl Rose, but the two main characters are annoying and a lot of the movie feels like it is making fun of the music instead of honoring it. Also weird that in the world of the movie the actual artists exist but for some reason Tom Cruise's character is written as if he wrote all the cover songs that he sings.

If you're looking for a no-frills campy good time with a great soundtrack, this film will do you right. If you're looking for high-budget blockbuster with brilliant acting, keep moving. This film is best appreciated with a group of friends and a bunch of booze. I had a blast watching this on my vacation during some down time. Will be a definite throwback to those who lived during the era, including the awful beginning of hip-hop-esque boy bands.

What can I say? I'm NOT a Tom Cruise fan, but this movie, I think he did Great! The characters and the stars that play them were Awesome! The Extras on the Blu-ray disc was a good ride! Seeing the band members... takes me back. Yeah, I'm old!ish!sorta! Ok, I grew up cruising to every song on this movie. I didn't 1 Star it because of lack of Digital Copy, because the movie totally overwrote it!

I really love it. I have watch so many musical, and finally one with all rock. You should be from the 80"s to really love it. Musical are hard to watch, but this one reminded me the good times. I guess you will enjoy it more if you are in your earlier 40 and up.I do not think the younger actors gave me the feeling but well, Tom Cruise balance it. Lot of Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey..I love it
