Ryan Adams' best in nearly a decade

Ryan Adams has been writing and recording great music for nearly 18 years now when he started with his old band Whiskeytown and went solo in 2000. His albums are consistently good, though not always consistently great. This self-titled album, his first in 3 years, is one of his greats. There is a real reason why the album is self-titled: it exemplifies everything that makes him a singular artist in modern rock and country-rock today: real moodiness, killer hooks, musicianship that is unafraid to let loose and deeply felt lyrics. A lot of his fans will point to Ryan Adams' first 2 albums, "Heartbreaker" and "Gold," and perhaps his 2-CD country-rock classic from 2005 "Cold Roses" as best entry points into his stellar catalog of albums; this album joins that specific pantheon and may actually be the best entry point of them all.

Ryan Adams longevity is typically based on his ability to change and transform his sound while remaining true to his style/ his latest self titled effort is no different. Recalling more Love is Hell then his prior two efforts, this album has some good rockers and some good folky-alt country ballads. Plus, he's got an Emperor patch on his jacket. C'mon and buy it!

This release brings more of Ryan's rocking side. Fans that prefer his more country stuff might be disappointed but if you like "Rock and Roll" and "III and IV" you will like this. I really liked his last release "Ashes and Fire" but enjoy this much more. There isn't a bad track on this. Standouts are "Gimme Something Good", "My Wrecking Ball" and "I Just Might".

I bought this and Adams' "Prisoner" CD together. If "Prisoner" is the break-up album, this is definitely the precursor. Very sad songs about a relationship that's coming to an end. Not sure if I have a favorite song, all are good.

Bought this cd after hearing some of his earlier stuff.i own an audio store so sonics are always important to me. This is a very well recorded cd. Most of the songs are really good with only a couple of duds.i have found that this has grown on me with repeated listenings.

Ryan Adams is a musical chameleon that has never fit into one genre specifically but has mastered transcending multiple ones. With his new album, Adams channels his inner Tom Petty to release a collection of tracks that can be enjoyed by listeners young and old.

Ryan Adams doesn't disappoint in his return to a rock sound. It has a mid 70's vibe to it a la Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The lyrics, musicianship, songwriting, and production are all top notch on this album. One of the best albums of 2015 in my opinion.

Hardly a weak track here. Pretty straight ahead rock with a couple acoustic tracks. "Let Go" and "Feels Like Fire" are personal favorites. Reminiscent of "Heartbreaker" to a certain extent. No new ground broken, but still a must-have if you're a R.A. fan...
