We did our research and after much deliberation we chose the Samsung 1.8 model: ME18H704SFS . Some reviews talk about the buttons being hard to press...not at all. Our previous OTR Microwave was a Fridgidaire and the buttons didn't require any more or less pressure. The 400 CFM fans in the Samsung works well. Follow the instructions carefully to determine how your microwave exhaust will be used. Ours recirculates back into the house. To do this you have to reposition the fans prior to the install. Remove 3 screws, lift and rotate the fans 90 degrees, reinstall and your'e done with setting it up for recirculation. There are 4 settings and all of them work great. The templates supplied were dead on. I followed all the instructions to a T and had no issues with the install. Infact, my wife and I took about 2 hours to complete the task. That time includes running to a hardware store for the mounting hardward....wasn't included in our box but Best Buy refunded us a percentage to off set the costs. (Outstanding customer service!, Thank You BEST BUY) The interior is so easy to clean. It's not the typical white plastic interior. It looks like the interior of our Samsung smooth top oven interior. Looks nice and easy to clean. We removed the interior tray because we don't like the inside divided into two small compartments. The lights on the bottom of the microwave are bright and they light up the smooth top stove. The filters on the bottom are easily installed and so is the charcoal filter. All in all, after following the installation instructions and after a few days of use, we are extremely happy with our purchase.

We had a GE Profile microwave before buying this one. Unfortunately, the GE's superior design has made our transition to Samsung irritating and painful because of some unnecessary design flaws: 1) The kitchen timer can't be used while cooking. Our GE microwave was intelligent enough to do both at the same time. 2) When the kitchen timer ends on the Samsung, it beeps 3 times and stops, making it practically useless. Our GE kept beeping until we stopped it, "knowing" that we might not hear it immediately. 3) The Samsung's nightlight timer (which lets you program when it turns on and off each day) apparently can't be reprogrammed without unplugging the microwave and resetting all options. Our GE microwave made it very easy to change just the nightlight program. 4) The Samsung has no express cook function. On our GE, we could start cooking immediately by pressing the +30 or any of the 1-6 buttons. 5) The exhaust fan on the Samsung has 4 speeds, but only the 2 lowest speeds work when cooking. If the fan is at a higher speed when you start cooking, it will be slowed down. When cooking ends, it won't return to the previous speed. Our GE could cook while the exhaust was at any of its 4 speeds. 6) The options menu on the Samsung is a series of numbers, so you have to refer to the list inside the microwave to know which is which. The GE had clear option names on-screen, scrolling when they were wider than the screen.

Within 6 months after buying the over the range Samsung microwave (model ME18H704SFS) the unit would shut off and not restart, screen blank. when I did get the screen back on the service company wouldn't look at it as it was working. 12 months later same thing. Unit shut down, blank screen. Since I had reported this before the warranty was out the first time, I finally got them to approve the service company to come check it out. They replaced a part to it. Now a month and half later it's doing the same thing. Sometimes it shuts down after heating items up, sometimes it just shuts down on its own and even closing the door can shut it down. Unplugging for awhile doesn't help but closing the door can make it come back for awhile. Guess the jar from the closing rattles something to make a connection. Need to call and see if they will cover this now since they replaced a part already. Not real happy with the microwave, the repair company was fast and efficient when they first checked it out. Also after changing out part only 2 speeds of the fan worked, however now all 4 have started working again. My last microwave was a counter top that lasted over 15 years. I've had this less than 2 years.

Lemon Right Out of the Box!!

We bought this microwave part of a package price for black friday. We were doing renovations and didn't open it until 6 months later. Right out of the box, the LCD screen was zig zagging and malfunctioning. Would not stay lit or readable. We called Samsung, and they would only repair it. Brand new appliance and they only repair, not replace! After about 4-5 service calls with 2 different companies, either not showing up at all, or coming 7pm when a 1-4pm time frame was given, I gave up. On my honeymoon overseas, I had to call and argue with Samsung and tell them I did NOT want a FIXED microwave, when it was not even used 1 minute. Long story short, and about 1 month later of arguing and calling and failed service attempts, they agreed to authorize an exchange. THis meant paying the contractor extra to uninstall, and now reinstall a new one. Not happy at all with Samsung's customer service. Even when you call, you will never speak to a manager. If I was to do it again, I would buy the appliance suite from Whirlpool or even Frigidaire that my mom has had for 7 years and going strong. I know I must have had a lemon, but still disappointing! Customer service should be better, ESPECIALLY since I spent thousands of dollars and bought a fridge, microwave, dishwasher, oven, TV, washer and dryer ALL from samsung.

Like a dummy, I bought a second one

My first one failed after one year and one week. Just stopped heating. Samsung would not give me a break on the warranty. I do not remember how much the service call was, but I do know, economically, it made no sense. I elected to buy the same model at BB, just because it would be convenient to install and I did like the microwave. Being smarter now, I invested in the three year service plan. This is really a two-year extension of the warranty. (Not really). After five months, the same failure happened. If I called Samsung for the warranty service, they would’ve came out and picked it up. But no, I decided to take it to BB. I had to remove and deliver it. They in turn, sent it to a Service Center, which did repair it after 2~3 weeks. A failed magnetron, same as the first one. After one year and two weeks since the original purchase, it again stopped working. Back to B.B. and a week later, they elected not to repair it. Issued me a store credit for the purchase price, but not the service plan. Samsung should have picked up the first repair, but B.B. would have to cover the second. They made the same decision I made on the first microwave I bought. To be fair to B.B., they did give some compensation on the next microwave. I will never buy any Samsung item again. BTY, I had bought a Samsung blue ray player that failed after 1 year and 3 months! Should have learned something then.

I am really happy with this unit (Samsung 1,8 cubic ft. over the stove model 18H1704SFS). It was a replacement for a 13 year old GE model that failed. This unit fit the existing wall support plate perfectly and as a result was very easy to install. One note, if you use the internal fan vent, you will have to remove and rotate the fan motor 90 degrees. This is simple and well documented, but there is a metal rim inside the front of the opening and a slot on each side of the motor housing. It looks like its designed to fit over the metal rim, but its not. It will fit except the unit will only go half way down. Make sure the entire motor housing is behind that metal edge. If it doesn't slip right in and go all the way down, this may be why. When you start to insert the motor, angle it's top to the back of the microwave slightly, After it starts in, rotate it forward and it will slip right into place. Note the description says it has a four speed fan but the specifications say two speed. The 4 speed is correct. The sensor cook works well, and the microwave cooks fast. All of the features are intuitive and work well. I have heard people say it is loud, but I find it to be less noticeable than the unit it replaced, the only real noise is the air flow through the fan on higher speeds. Also the balance of stainless steel and black accents on the front make it a reasonable choice for a kitchen with stainless steel appliances or black appliances. That will be nice if we decide to change from one to the other color. Note this is all based on a good installation experience, and the initial use of the microwave. Durability/reliability is not yet established since I have only had it in place for three days.

Do not buy from Best Buy

Best Buy sold me a used or refurbished microwave that was listed on their website as new. I had the microwave delivered to my home and when I opened it, it had a dent on the side. 1st warning that the microwave was not new, I didn't realize at the time but I did not pull any tape or plastic off of the microwave like I did for the real new microwave I just bought from another store. 2nd warning that the microwave was not new, I only had the microwave for less than 2 months when it stopped working. I contacted Samsung to have them fix the microwave. The repair Technician took apart the microwave and noticed that the microwave was not new and suggested that I take it back to Best Buy and exchange it for a new one. I took the Technicians suggestion and returned it to the local Best Buy store. Here is the reason why I will never give Best Buy another penny of my money, I explained to them what happened and that I just wanted a new microwave - the same model. They did not exchange the microwave or give me the exact model I wanted. I did get my money back but Best Buy wanted me to purchase the new microwave at the current price which of course is higher than what I paid 2 months ago. Best Buy is probable using Geek Squad to repair broken electronics and passing them off as new.

I ordered Samsung Mircowave via online in mid of July. While we were on process put new mircowave in, once we opened the package and pulled out the mircowave to inspect to ensure no damages, unfortunately it turns out it is damaged on the side to back of the mircowave. So disappointed. Immediately returned it to the store and ask for the replacement. It took about a week for another one to arrive August 4th. Now we are happy with new replacement. 4 stars for the hassle and long waited for replacement also customer service did not offer anything to ease my unhappiness with defective mircowave. Otherwise now we all are happy to enjoy our new mircowave to replace the old one that those under vent light bulbs keep going out so often. Also it matches my Samsung stove I had brought several months ago.
