Good HDTV but chnge options for better pix

Read a lot of reviews on Consumer Reports, Best Buy, Amazon, etc. and then went to Portland, OR Best Buy to look at the models on display. Chose this model because it was moderately priced (under $1000) but still got decent reviews and looked pretty good considering it was $2,000- $4,000 cheaper than the ones that looked very good. Our main complaint was that the "default" options the unit comes set to did NOT give us the best picture quality for watching outdoor scenes - quite frankly everything looked like the old style "kineoscope" or early 60's "videotaped" TV series - weird. We played around with the options and eventually came to realize the "Movie" option did a "smoothing" to the picture so the hurky-jerky movements went away and the picture looked good. (For you old timers out there, the default look was as if you had set the CONTRAST to HIGH.) The secondary problem, which Consumer Reports had warned was a problem with MOST of the lower priced HDTV's was that motion could look strange - and this is true with this unit, too. But, since we went in expecting that, we aren't too distressed by it. Not much you can do about that. The third complaint would be that the interface on the remote is kind of weird; and there is no manual with the TV or online with the manufacturer, either. Plan on playing around with it to be able to use. Also, the sound defaults to "Bitstream" and a "X milliseconds delay". Plan on going in and changing that to "PCM" and "0 delay" under "Expert Settings" under the all encompassing "Sound" "tab". Be SURE you get into SETUP and decide if you want the unit to be listening to what you say to it - it does have that option and it DEFAULTS to that. We decided there was enough racket in our house we didn't want the TV trying to interpet that as directions, so we turned it OFF. For $1000 it is a great entry level HDTV, but, has its own set of issues. (Not part of this particular TV review in particular, but, large HDTVs in general: if you plan on transporting an HDTV or other large screen TV, they want it transported in an UPRIGHT position; we drove our pickup truck over thinking we'd simply lay it flat and off we go. The clerks said no dice, you can't do that, but, they helped us get it onto the truck (in an upright position, of course) and then jumped off the truck and WE had to lay it on its side as they walked away pretending they didn't see what we did. :-) We propped it carefully with blankets and other padding and drove the "slow" gentle road home. Arrived just fine - but, be warned, you might want it delivered and you might also want them to set it up for you. Set up is awkward if you are putting it on the pedestal it comes with - you need to lay it flat on a surface like a table at one point with the pedestal hanging off the side - with a blanket under the TV - so you can attach the pedestal - doesn't work properly if you put it on the floor. The directions that come with the TV are pretty poor - make sure you understand how to arrange the TV as you assemble and you'll be ok. This is a two person job because it is large and awkward. Would be a 2 person job to put it up on the wall, as well.) .

Almost returned, but perseverance paid off

At first, this tv didn't get off to a good start. Setup was easy, however out of the box the tv couldn't stay connected to wifi. Tried using an amazon firestick and it had no problem staying connected even though it was behind the tv and the router is located in front down in the basement. However I gave it a shot and tried updating the tv. That was a problem because it couldn't stay connected long enough to download the update. So, off to the samsung site to find the firmware update, download it, transfer to a memory stick then update the TV. Happily things improved and it stays connected now. I'd imagine for some people this would be too much and it would get returned if they were to run into wifi issues. I've owned it for a few weeks and there's been I believe 3 updates. Haven't seen what the updates improve other than the initial wifi improvement, but it's good to see they're working to improve things. The default settings really weren't good, especially for lower res tv shows. Made things look like an odd 70's soap opera. Messed around with some of the picture settings turning off some features and now it's passable for low res, and still fine for 1080 stations. I was a little concerned with some of the other reviews regarding the remote, but I think it rocks. Very intuitive, and for normal use is pretty quick. I especially like the feature where it eventually learns what your favorite stations are so that when you press and hold up or down on the channel change paddle, the navigation display gives those favorites more prominence. Well thought out overall. Getting to some settings takes a little more navigation, but once set up I don't tend to go there much. I think they could have kept dedicated number buttons to enter channels since the method they provided sucks, but I find I can live without it or just talk to the remote. So overall, it's a keeper. Great picture, 4K videos look cool, apps work good with the exception of google play which seems to have the most issues, and the built in sound while not theatre quality is sufficient.

TV is fine but viewing angle is horrible

I had read multiple reviews on this TV stating that the viewing angle was bad and just assumed people were being TV snobs. Well.... the viewing angle is horrible on this TV. I sold TVs for 3 years (a lifetime in TV technology) and this is one of the worst viewing angles I've ever seen on a Samsung. In the store, it was not as noticeable but once I got the TV home and tried it out, it became extremely apparent. The angle I watch from my couch is maybe 30 degrees from straight on. The color becomes so poor that I honestly thought the Blu-Ray I was watching wasn't functioning properly. I altered the picture settings but nothing changed. Unless I went to about 10 degrees or less from straight on, the color become very diluted (except for one shade of blue which became awkwardly vibrant). The TV itself is an easy setup. The remote is fine though I'm not a fan of how it resembles soundbar remotes (I prefer a normal-sized TV remote). I didn't use any Smart functions as I just used my PS4 for viewing movies. Maybe I'm being a snob when it comes to this but you will absolutely notice dilution of colors and every person looking sick if you don't sit almost straight on with this TV. I will be exchanging this TV for another in the next few days.

    Buyer's Remorse

Lost 6 yr old Samsung in flood. I wanted a reliable replacement ( 55") with a great picture. One like in the stores. Gullible, right? I could have run straight to Wal-Mart and bought the first one I saw. But no, I read reviews after reviews and talked to salesmen. I became so confused and my wife got so aggravated. I decided on either a Sony or another Samsung. I wanted to stay under a thousand dollars, so I bought this UN55MU7000FZA. Nice Iooking; the kind of stand I wanted; and pretty decent picture quality (after I got the right hdmi cable). The salesperson also deceived me on the motion rate of this tv over the Sony However, the remote is a piece of junk. Never could figure that thing out. Ended up putting in a drawer and using my cable remote (cox contour which I also despise). Now the thing keeps this tv from being a 5 star is the angle viewing. The straight on viewing is real good, but 3 feet to the left is too rich in color and 3 feet to right is washed out looking. Very annoying, un-enjoyable and disappointing. I have researched and found out that most of today's larger screen tv's have bad angle viewing. I wish I would have bought a 49" instead.

TV is good. Samsung's Ads suck.

The picture is really good and I like most of the features. My low rating is due to the ads placed on the tv by Samsung that cannot be removed. If you don't care about that, then go ahead and buy the tv. But I don't think they have a right to invade my privacy and push products to me without at least informing prior to my purchase. I would not have purchased this tv had I known about Samsung's invasive advertising from the Home menu that cannot be removed or turned off. I called customer service and they said it's on there for good and they will not remove it.

    Great TV, Not the Best

This TV has excellent picture quality and plenty of options to be able to tweak it the way that you enjoy it most. Motion looks just okay to me. Color is often more vivd than it is in actual life. HDR Mode isn't a great looking mode in my opinion. HDMI CEC makes it super convenient to switch between my Apple TV 4K and regular broadcasts. A couple issues that I have are you can't save a "custom" setting that is applied to each type of broadcast. You can only apply to all. Since every signal is different the tv could potentially need to be tweaked in one setting to the next. My other pet peeve is where tv manufacturers hide "Game mode". This is an important setting for many people and they aren't aware of the value it plays when enjoying something like a football game or video games. Why they refuse to place this in the regular settings is beyond me. All in all, to the average user this tv is tremendous is was worth the price I paid, but I would recommend waiting until OLED or QLED becomes affordable if your TV is less than 3 years old.

    Bad Pixels after 3 Days

CONS: I had to return this television because an entire row of pixels went out after 3 days. Now, I do not believe this is a true problem with Samsung and can occur with ANY television, it's more of a nuisance to actually have to return. Best Buy was excellent in the return process, and Tom the Samsung expert at my store was very apologetic, and was upset this did occur. It gets the 3 stars for having to return. PROS: The features, and simplicity of the television, compared to my 5 year old 1080 Samsung 55" was incredible. The single remote was a hit with my wife, WiFi stayed connected and the clarity (before the problem) was excellent. I use an ARC cable to a receiver for movies, but use the tv speakers for "normal" viewing and the sound was very good. I wish I could give it more than 3 stars, but that is only because of the pixel problem. They did not have another in stock, so I just returned this one for a refund. I would buy this again, and may consider the 8000 series too

Just got this Samsung - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV. Love some futures as you can search the web on it as you can use HD reddit streams. Google Search with your voice button located on the remote. The apps from youtube to hulu and spotify for music. The ufc tv if you hace ufc fight pass like i do it make it easy to watch. If you like watching youtube shows like Hot ones and other food shows makes it perfect to stream your favorite shows from a wifi connection or ethernet port. I say this was a great buy for the price and all the features i know theres better tvs with better quality image but for the price and all the features i do like this tv a lot. Buy no means am i hating on the image quality i know if you'd like to spend 1,000 more bucks you can get a better image quality but thats why i said for the price you can't beat it 800-900 bucks plus warranty always get a warranty.
