When I attended this film I did not expect much. Another action thriller with corny jokes comparing young generations to old. But what i got was the complete opposite. The film is not for people who give up in the first 30 min. JJ ( the title character) did not carry the films first opening scenes. But the moment Sam jackson becomes fully immersed is when this film takes off. I could not stop laughing as every joke is just awesome. It is profoundly unapologetic with some jokes, unafraid of offending, something I craved for a film trying to show the differences in ideas between new and old generations. I was very surprised by this film, and although the end scenes are a little ho hum, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The son, who was slightly annoying in the beginning, does go through a transformation. Do not pass off this movie as a lame action film, because you will be laughing endlessly. The soundtrack was killer as well

When I first saw that they were rebooting Shaft again I had very low expectations for it. After hearing that this movie was a nice surprise I caught it on one of the premium channels, and it was amazing in every way. They paid homage to the past without throwing a bunch of annoyingly self-righteous jabs at it. They also made the new Shaft good and funny without making him someone you can't root for. This was definitely something that I had to buy for myself.

Who buys optical discs these days? Well, if you're like me and prefer quality over convenience, you do! May I just say this is one reference quality disc. Video Q: 5/5 for a blu-ray Audio Q: 5/5 Special features Q:4/5 love the interviews Movie content - maybe it's just me, but as a follow up to the '97 Shaft, this was unique, fresh, and FANTASTIC. And I loved the first one w SAM JACKSON. I wasn't aware the 70s shaft would be in the movie, is genuinely got pumped when he showed up. (I saw the 70s original in a drive in theater!) Having eventually bought both the 4K version and the 2k version from Best Buy new, turned out to be the same as going to the movie in NYC high end theater (too much!) I can only hope the 4K remains a Best Buy special edition and out of print quickly. Otherwise I (knowingly) got taken for a ride on the cost of owning the blu-ray & the 4K editions.

We love this movie, and it looks wonderful in 4K, however according to the description, this is supposed to include the 4K UHD blu-ray, the standard HD blu-ray, and the digital copy. All of the other 4K blu-rays I own all come will both discs and digital copy. This one only includes the 4K disc and digital copy. I feel like we paid way too much for what we received, because no standard 1080 blu-ray was included. Beware of that if you plan on purchasing this title.

Samuel L. Jackson does the impossible and actually does a great job in starring as John Shaft #2! The 4K colors actually bring out Jackson Red Coat in vivid detail and the Dolby soundtrack rocks through the speakers especially in the car chase scene!

OUTSTANDING. What made this movie work for me is that first, they changed its theme to an action comedy, the 2000 Shaft film was a bit too serious but this one has a lot of humor and often pokes fun at itself. Because of that it reminded me a lot of the Lethal Weapon franchise. Second is the contrast between the Ghetto born and raised Samuel L. Jackson Shaft to his Politically Correct Millennial son. Lots of opportunity for humor there and naturally they milked it down to the bone.

Samual L. Jackson...need I say more? Da man did an outstanding job of portraying John Shaft! The action was good, the villains were believable, and acting was excellent! Very representative of the old blaxploitation movies of the 70s starring Max Julian, Richard Roundtree, Billy Dee Williams, Pam Grier, and others. Highly recommended due to the mashup of 70s and current day lifestyles, humor, and portrayal of today's black youths.
