What is emergency heat on a smart thermostat?

Emergency heat is a backup heating option on heat pump systems. When activated through your smart thermostat, it switches your system to use an alternative heat source, like electric resistance heating, to keep your home warm if the main heat pump can't operate efficiently in extremely cold weather.

Can I control emergency heat remotely with a smart thermostat?

Yes, most smart thermostats allow you to activate or deactivate emergency heat remotely using their companion mobile apps or web interfaces, giving you full control even when you're not at home.

Do all smart thermostats support emergency heat?

Not all smart thermostats are compatible with emergency heat settings. Be sure to check the product specifications to ensure the thermostat supports heat pump systems with emergency heat functionality.

How do I know if my HVAC system is compatible with a smart thermostat with emergency heat?

Check your HVAC system's manual or consult with your installer to confirm that your system includes a heat pump with emergency heat. Most smart thermostats provide compatibility check tools or guides to help you determine if your system will work with their emergency heat features.

What are the benefits of using a smart thermostat with emergency heat?

A smart thermostat with emergency heat offers enhanced comfort and peace of mind during extreme weather. It allows for seamless switching to backup heat, remote control, energy usage monitoring, and personalized scheduling to optimize both comfort and efficiency.
