    Synopsis

    Showgirls
"I'm gonna dance," Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) insists in the opening scene of Showgirls, and dance she does. In this quasi-update of All About Eve, Nomi is a drifter whose sole ambition is to headline the "Goddess" topless dance show at the Stardust in Las Vegas. Of course, even Nomi must pay her dues, and she does so at the Cheetah, grinding poles and lap dancing her way to a future. Fortunately, her roommate, Molly, works at the Stardust and invites Nomi to see the show, where she meets Crystal Conners (Gina Gershon, in the Bette Davis role), with whom she immediately forms a love/hate relationship. Nomi soon learns what she must do to get ahead, and the rest of the film documents her cat-like crawl up the showgirl ladder of success. Directed by Paul Verhoeven, (Robocop, Basic Instinct, The Fourth Man), Showgirls was conceived as the first big-budget "adult" film since 1977's Caligula, and the first such production to wear the NC-17 rating; its failure at the box-office discouraged further attempts at large-scale adult productions. ~ Dylan Wilcox, Rovi

Perhaps the best movie about Vegas strippers ever

Showgirls looks better than I ever imagined the release would be. I always read that Showgirls was one of MGM's top home video sellers. I just knew sooner than later we'd have the HD Blu release. I figured it would end up stripped of its film like look, and released cheaply. I was wrong! This release gives film grain as well as it gives laughs. Colors are precise tight, blacks solid. Showgirls carries a high bit rate that rivals a Criterion release, we are talking around 35.5mbps! (Some sites have noted some minor cropping of the framing of this release.) Showgirls' dts master audio track is thumping and can't get any better, esp with the songs featuring deep bass beats. If you ever owned the previous VIP Showgirls release then you have seen the extras. It is too bad the filmmakers and the stars won't really discuss the film at all. They should just embrace the film and have a blast do a hilarious cast commentary track. However we d get a commentary track from a devoted fan of the film, it is an entertaining track as it stands. You and your friends while watching should garner many funny observations endlessly. This film needed "create your own commentary track". The one extra that without a doubt I would repurchase the release for would be that great VH1 / Cable version with the nudity covered up and the dialog changed to hilarious proportions of confusion. MGM / FOX did this SHOWGIRLS release right. Excellent transfer, bumpin' audio, and all the previous extras carried over. As Cristal Connors might say, go on Darlin' Buy It...

The only reason I ordered this specific copy of "Showgirls" was because the website listed "The Greatest Movie Ever Made: Audio Commentary by David Schmader" as one of the special features. However, the DVD that arrived did NOT have that as a special feature. Furthermore, Best Buy's website explicitly states "You may return any item purchased on BestBuy.com at any Best Buy store." but when I tried to return this at my local store I was told they could not accept it and I'd have to return it by mail. Very disappointed with Best Buy on all accounts. Will try to avoid shopping there in the future.

Jesse Spanno gives a knock out performance as a young temptress trying to find her way in the world as Naomi Malone. Dont get too comfortable watching this timeless classic, because Naomi does not enjoy the musical stylings of Garth Brooks, but she does love Doggy Chow and Versace (Pronounced Vers-ace (not the normal Versache pronounciation). Honestly, this movie is horrible. But if you throw in a few cocktails and a couple great friends for a viewing (in the style of Mystery Science Theater 3000), then the movie is great. Its bad enough to where its good.

The ultimate guilty pleasure. Showgirls is '90s over the top cinema at its best. Sure, it's been accused of being misogynistic, but it's also pretty hard to take this trainwreck seriously. The acting is atrocious, and it tries so hard to be sexy, that it for the most part backfires. Still, that doesn't take away from a bad movie that is so bad, it's good. Watch with some friends and have a night of laughs.

This movie is absolutely terrible in every way.No plot, the acting, and the cast they could have phoned this one in.Elizabeth Berkley is far from her "Saved by the bell" days. Some one should have saved her from this movie, it may have saved her career.Maybe!!!I don't really understand why Hollywood make such garbage, then put NC-17 on it to keep kids away. When the kid gets old enough to watch it he/she will be like O.K. That was lame,NEXT.

This movie screams camp, and I love every second of it! The picture quality is amazing, and I'm so glad I decided to buy it on Blu-ray because it was definitely an upgrade from the DVD version. The only thing I didn't care for was the commentary which was done by a fan. It falls short at times with him just laughing at the movie, and there is no real knowledge gained from it. I wish Elizabeth Berkley would've done it!

I waited for a Blu ray to come out. This film is so bad it's fabulous! I had to have it in my collection to remind me of this never forgotten trashy classic. I love watching it to remind me that SHOWGIRLS has elevated trashy film making to an art form. Buy it...it's not expensive at all, and have fun at a viewing party or just watch it for the fun of it.

SHOWGIRLS is a classic disaster cinema creation ...it's campy writing, it's trashy acting, it's ultra amateurish, has a ridiculously banal plot that makes no point, but you must own it and watch it every so often to remind yourself how Hollywood can spend millions on utter trash, and now it's in Blu Ray!!!!
