Q: Do I need to have a plan with a provider to use this device???

A: You do have to buy data, but it's pay as you go - no contract, no commitments... you just download the Skyroam mobile app through the app store, then select the data plan that suits your needs best. They have $6/1GB option, a 3 month/$27 option, or unlimited data for $99. I haven't purchased, but have been doing lots of research! It seems like a great concept.

Q: Just to confirm that I understand. Does this device act like a Wifi extender? This mobile wifi hotspot emits it's own WIFI? Would this device work in a remote area?

A: Hi there - the devices works by connecting to cellular towers via it's VirtualSIM inside, and then creates a WiFi signal and private network, so you can connect multiple devices securely - up to 10 at the same time. Because of partnerships with carriers worldwide, the hotspot will give you WiFi in over 130+ countries from the same device. It's super small to it's easy to carry around with you. You pay by the day, month, or GB for the data depending on how you want to use it. Since it often has multiple carrier partners per country, Skyroam hotspots can often get service where your primary phone carrier may not. However, it does require cellular coverage to work, so in remote areas where no local carrier has coverage, it will not work.

Q: How much is it to use Wi-Fi a month on this device

A: They have a few options for monthly WiFi, starting at $99/mo for unlimited, or $9/mo for 1GB of Global Data. There are also now local plans for USA and Europe that start at $6 per month for 1GB to use in those countries only. They also just launched discounts if you buy multiple unlimited months upfront - so 6 months of Unlimited is as low as $49 per month. You can buy data online at a.skyroam.com or using their Solis WiFi app available on iOS or Android App stores.

Q: On the unlimited plan, does the connection speed get throttled back when you reach a certain data usage?

A: Supposedly the speed drops to 2G once you hit ~500MB limit. However if you buy their pay-per-GB packages you always get the 4G full speed. Read about this in an online review as i was doing research on this product as well.

Q: do you have to purchase a service plan for this device?

A: Yes you have to purchase one of our data plans in order to use the device.

Q: I live some where where there is no towers and my phone doesn’t work at all for about 8 mile would this work

A: Hello J, if there aren't any cellular towers in the area Skyroam will not connect. Thank you for your interest in Skyroam.

Q: Living outside the city limits all we have for internet service is satellite. For every day checking emails or searching websites would this be the best thing for us. What about watching Netflix? 3 diff skyroams?

A: Hello B! Skyroam is ideal for checking emails and searching websites. Yes, you can use Skyroam to watch Netflix. Thank you for your interest in Skyroam!

Q: Can this be used on road trips 3-8 hrs out of state for the kids to connect to the internet and the wife to use her laptop for Zoom meetings?

A: You have to do the math yourself, since you were not clear how much of those 3-8 hours you would be doing what, but here are the raw numbers: Netflix: 1GB/hr. for Standard Definition (SD), 3GB/hr. for High Definition (HD); Online gaming of most modern titles: 40 to 300MB/hr. Zoom group meeting call: 810 MB-2.4 GB/hr. So if you bought the pay-as-you-go plan (1GB/$6), your wife could have one, one-hr. meeting ($6 to $12), your kids could watch one, two-hr. SD movie ($12) and play one to three housr of videogames, for approximately ($6--you would have to pay for the full gigabyte), for a total of around $24. There are many variables, however, including which plan you use, cell carriers "fair use" policies," connectivity in your area. etc. This is what I meant by saying you have to do the math yourself.
