Having moved my Sony STR-DH190 stereo receiver and Sony Core speakers to my bedroom, I needed a new receiver and speakers for my home office (man cave by night). For a mid-range receiver, the STR-DH590 is quite nice. I'll point out a few things I like about this receiver. Like the Sony STR-DH190, it has built-in Bluetooth. As such I can easily pair it with my iPhone and stream music. It also has plenty of audio inputs. I connected my three computers to it via RCA cables. It’s easy to switch between them using the handy Sony remote. The DH590 also has an optical audio TV input to which I connected my Sony Full Array LED 4K TV for amazing theater sound. I paired my Sony receiver to a pair of Polk Monitor XT-20 bookshelf speakers for a straight 2-channel setup. For a budget bookshelf speaker, the XT-20 rocks! Having 6.5” woofers, the Polk XT-20 pumps out impressively clean bass you can feel. The XT-20 is Hi-Res Audio certified. Detail and imaging from this model of speaker are truly remarkable. On my Sony DH590 receiver, Music “Enhancer” sound mode equalization help balance the sound, boosting the mid-range and treble. Overall, I’m loving my Sony STR-DH590 receiver!

This is a really nice receiver for the price. On my last theater receiver I had to manually power off the unit after use. This unit, if you used HDMI cables from all your input components (highly recommend) and to the tv. It will automatically turn the receiver On/Off with the TV. The audio menu is a little clunky to get through but easier through the remote control. The sound quality is really good. I use it to boost the sound of my TV in a large room, but it does so much more. A single button on the remote switches different inputs including Bluetooth sync to your tablet or phone. Still much to learn but happy with it so far.
