Solid Phone

I have now had this phone for over two months and I am quite happy with it. It is much faster and more responsive than my prior HTC smart-phone. Overall navigation and ease of use is solid/ typical Android. The camera takes great photos and movies. The music player is also quite good. The James Bond theme is pretty cool although very understated; I like the James Bond theme song ring-tone.
Size for me is very important and the Xperia is a good compromise between large screen and portability. Most of the other highly-rated, non-Apple smartphones are too big to comfortably carry in a pocket but this has a reasonable size.
Overall it is a very solid phone and a good value. I would buy it again.
A few cons (all minor in my opinion):
- battery life is not great. I have been getting around 1.5-2 days on a charge. For a brand new phone I think it should be longer but a full day is my requirement. FYI- I rarely use GPS and mostly use WiFi (text, email, web, apps, etc) with not too much talking/calling.
- power button is on the side, in the middle. This takes some getting used to and I keep hitting volume buttons when I intend to hit the power switch.
- preloaded AT&T apps that you cannot remove are annoying
- you can tack on another ~$30 to the expected cost because you will need to purchase an SD card for this phone

I did a lot of research before I made my final decision for a smart phone. I read/watched so many reviews: some positive, some negative. However, the choice came down to me... And I feel that I made the right one. I may not be as tech savvy as many others - but I am no novice either. This phone has been labeled with the term: mid-range smart phone. And I continue to be stumped as to how that was concluded. This phone, in my honest opinion, has done everything that I have expected from a "high-end smart phone". The graphics are superb; as well as the sound quality. The interface works flawlessly, even if it does only come with ICS. Which shall be updated to JellyBean soon anyway. Very fast and smooth. The over-all feel and design is pleasing, to me. I can agree that the button placement was made with left-handed users in mind. However, it did not take much effort to get used to. A lot of comments and reviews I have delved through have bad mouthed this phone and I fail to see why... I have had no qualms with my phone as many negative reviewers apparently have. The only problem I feel that this phone has is that it could use some improvement of the battery. Or at least make the battery removable. However, using apps such as DeepSleep or JuiceDefeneder can obviously help somewhat to improve battery life. Plus some common sense with your phones settings and use. So this was not a deal breaker, for me. In the end, this phone easily contends with other high-end phones. Even though Sony has not had as much luck with sales as Iphone, Samsung, etc. - I feel that this phone is definitely a step in the right direction. This phone will be with me for a while~

I had an iphone before I switch to xperia and for me, its better than the iphone. It has a bigger screen, equally nice color on the screen as iphone, better sound quality than iphone and better camera than iphone. I had a samsung before and I don't like the plastic-like feel of it... its like a toy. The xperia looks nice and is sturdy, too. I dropped it by accident in a flooring made of tiles, nothing bad happens, not even a scratch. I also love the smart tags that switches my phone configuration in a snap. For me, its the best smartphone I ever had.

I have to say that I am loyal when it comes to consumer electronics, Sony is my brand of choice. Day in and day out Sony will deliver and stand behind the product. With that said, the phone works very well and I have not had one issue mechanically. The operating system on one occasion would not switch from WiFi to 4G. From what I was told this is common when your in areas with constant WiFi and only required putting the phone into Airplane Mode for five minutes to reboot. As far as size, this is about as large as I would want. Some of the other mobile phones on the market seem to be getting as big as a check book.

I've been a James Bond fan for as long as I can remember, now I have his phone! This phone is so simple to use, it has Walkman built right in, it is lightweight and compact and it does more than my wife's Galaxy S3. I love the 13MP camera and being able to record video in 1080p HD; how great is that for saving memories of our first grandchild! The only downside is that the power, volume, and camera buttons are on the lower right side; I just learned to hold the phone differently, no big deal. Above all, it's a Sony! I would recommend this phone to anyone.

Great smartphone for first timer

This is my first smartphone. Though I'm somewhat of a techie, I resisted getting a smartphone for quite some time because I LOATHE the data plans and prices that companies have nowadays. This phone is great for a first smartphone, PLUS, it has the Bond theme, which I love. While it isn't necessarily filled with tons of high-tech, spy stuff worthy of 007 himself, it's a good phone.
I love that I can completely turn the mobile data off and only use it when necessary, which greatly reduces the chance of me eating up my data. Also, you can leave the WiFi permanently on. The picture quality is pretty solid at 13MP camera and about 1.2MP or so front facing camera.
The brightness of the screen isn't as high as I would like, but I adjusted quickly to what the phone offers.
I love the size of the keyboard--in portrait or landscape position. I absolutely love the albums feature of the photos. I haven't seen another phone that offers this. The Albums was what first caught my attention with this phone when I saw a video review of it.
Many reviews I read prior to buying this phone complained of all the buttons being on the right side. I have not had a problem with this--other than trying to purchase a case for the phone.
I've also read some issues about Androids not really having removable programs and there being some concern about batteries not being removable. I've just gotten over this.
I've dropped it a few times from a short distance (less than 10 inches) onto wooden surface without any issues.
The phone has the NFC sensor, but I haven't quite figured out how to work it just yet. I suppose that'll come in handy once I figure it out.
The price on the Best Buy site ($0) was the biggest thing that made me instantly buy it. I was leaning towards this phone anyway, but when I saw $0, I instantly ordered.
This phone does everything I need it to. So far, I LOVE it!

Perfect phone for my wife

My wife ask me to pick a phone for her as I am more technology minded than she. So for the great upgrade price this phone looked perfect. 13MP camera is perfect for her needs, she has only downloaded the upgrade of Facebook on her phone from Google Store. Otherwise, she is perfectly happy with apps already installed on her phone. At first she did not like it, but after a week, she does not know what she would do without it. She now uses 6+ hours a day. Loves her new phone, loves using the camera especially as it has a dedicated camera button. She now post to Facebook often.
The power button became much less of a issue once a case was put on the phone.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the Sony Xperia TL for picture quality (both on the phone and images taken with the camera on the back.) Though it seems to have shorter battery life than other modern smart phones.
