    Synopsis

    Spider-Man 2
Stan Lee's all-too-human superhero returns to the screen in this highly anticipated sequel to 2002's blockbuster hit Spider-Man. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is attempting to juggle college classes and his job as a photographer with the Daily Bugle while maintaining his secret life as costumed crime-fighter Spider-Man. Parker is also struggling to hold on to his relationship with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), who is beginning to enjoy success as a model and actress, and both Mary Jane and Peter have noticed he's beginning to buckle under the strain. Parker's friendship with Harry Osborn (James Franco) is also beginning to fray due to Peter's seeming alliance with Spider-Man, whom Harry blames for the death of his father, the nefarious Norman Osborn. As Parker weighs his responsibilities to himself and those around him against the obligations that come with his special powers, Spider-Man is faced with a new nemesis -- Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina), a deranged scientist whose latest project has turned him into the near-invincible cyborg Doctor Octopus. Spider-Man 2 was directed by Sam Raimi, who helmed the first film, and much of the original cast has also reunited for this sequel, including Rosemary Harris, J.K. Simmons, and Bruce Campbell. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

    Spider-Man 3
Your friendly neighborhood web-slinger is back, only this time his sunny outlook has become partially overcast in the third chapter of director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man saga. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and James Franco return to reprise their roles from the previous two installments, with Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, and Bryce Dallas Howard making their first appearances in the series as Flint Marko (aka Sandman), Eddie Brock (aka Venom), and Gwen Stacy, respectively. Peter Parker (Maguire) has finally leaned to walk the middle ground between being the superhero that his city needs and the man that Mary Jane (Dunst) loves. All is well in New York City until one night, as Peter and M.J. sit gazing at the stars, a falling comet streams across the sky and crashes into the ground close by. But this isn't any ordinary shooting star, and upon impact the mysterious space rock is split open to reveal a shape-shifting symbiote with the power to overtake anything that it comes into contact with. Later, as Harry Osborn (James Franco) acquires his late father's flying board, engineers a powerful new Goblin outfit, and takes to the sky to avenge dad's death, the mysterious space sludge infects both Peter's Spider-Man suit and ambitious street photographer Eddie Brock (Grace). Peter's strange new suit gives him a newfound sense of power as it gradually overpowers his personality, and he discovers that escaped convict Flint Marko was in fact the man responsible for the death of Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson). Unfortunately for Peter, Marko has recently acquired the power to morph at will and quickly completes his transformation into the dreaded Sandman. As the Sandman gives in to his darkest criminal instincts and the slithering space symbiote transforms Eddie Brock into the nightmarish fanged villain known as Venom, the citizens of New York City must once again call on Spider-Man to fend off destructive forces that are far too powerful for the likes of mortal man. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Spider-Man
After incorporating elements of comic book style and design into many of his films, director Sam Raimi helms this straight-ahead, big-budget comic book adaptation, which also marks acclaimed young actor Tobey Maguire's first dip into live-action blockbuster filmmaking. Spider-Man follows the template of the original Stan Lee/Steve Ditko source material, with hero Peter Parker an orphaned, intellectual teen loner living in Queens with his aunt (Rosemary Harris) and uncle (Cliff Robertson), and dreaming of the girl next door, Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). On a field trip to a Columbia University lab, Peter is bitten by a genetically altered spider and overnight he gains superhuman strength, agility, and perception. At first, Peter uses his powers for material gain, winning a wrestling match with a purportedly lucrative prize. But when Peter apathetically fails to stop a burglar from robbing the wrestling arena, a tragedy follows that compels him to devote his powers to fighting crime -- as the superhero Spider-Man. When he's not busy fighting crime in a spider suit, Peter moves into an apartment with his best friend, Harry (James Franco), and begins work as a photographer at the Daily Bugle. Meanwhile, his do-gooder alter ego finds a nemesis in the form of the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), a super-powered, megalomaniacal villain who happens to be the alter ego of Harry's father, weapons-manufacturing mogul Norman Osborn. Spider-Man was written by the prolific blockbuster scribe David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Panic Room). ~ Michael Hastings, Rovi

This collection of Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy is probably as good as it could get. Of course, the movies themselves are very good (Spider-Man 3 only having good PARTS), but I'll just give a quick review here if the set itself and the extras. Cover art is not great, but you can see that. The package design is nice. It follows the digibook approach with nice hardcover exterior and some papercard pages where each disc rests. Before the films is a section of booklet with a short essay on each film. Haven't read those yet but it's a nice touch nonetheless. The picture quality is fabulous, particularly in Spider-Man 2. Sound is pretty good as well. I also haven't had time to look a lot through extras, but everything from previous home releases seems to be included. There are hours and hours of featurettes and documentaries. There also a good number of commentaries, leaving you with many ways to watch each film. Some notable additions to this collection are Spider-Man 2.1 and Spider-Man 3: The Editor's Cut. The former is a slightly extended version of the movie we already loved, and the latter is a newly released cut of the troubled film that is allegedly better (again, haven't watched it yet). If you grab this set fast, you can get $7.50 off a ticket to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is a pretty good deal. These are good movies, get 'em.

If you own the original Blu Rays of the first three Spider Man films, there is nothing new to see here. The only reason this gets a 4 star rating is the inclusion of the new "Editor's Cut" of Spider Man 3. In regards to the new edit, it's a nice inclusion that takes material out but restores some new scenes. Most of the material is minimal but the small stuff enhances some big character moments. If you hated the third film and think this will redeem it, you might be disappointed considering scenes like the infamous dance scene are left in. However, the pacing and storytelling is marginally better with the exception of a few new additions that add some emotional weight. There's more that shows the black suit is a separate entity from Peter, there's a short but bittersweet scene between the Sandman and his daughter and others. The only reason this new set is worth getting is for the new cut of Spider Man 3. If you were hoping for added material and hours of deleted stuff from the vaults, you might be underwhelmed...

I grew up on these Spider-Man films. I own all three on DVD but never purchased them on Blu-Ray because I wasn't impressed with their cover art or packaging. I first saw that they had steel case of all the movies but the packaging was not very nice. The disc-holders were just stacked on top of each other. I preferred this edition's packaging plus the artwork is nice. It has a book of production/making-of process that is really nice too. It makes me feel bad that I have to open it and put a crease in it. Loved that this came with digital downloads as well. If you are a fan of the movies, this is definitely a nice collector item with some cool features.

This is a great addition to any Blu Ray collection, and a must have for any Spider-Man fan! It includes each film, plus extended versions of Spider-Man 2 and 3. Plus, you get the digital copies. Each movie comes in its own sleeve in this book style case. I prefer this to the steel book version, which has all the discs stacked on top of each other. That was the deciding factor for me when choosing between the two sets. Also, I like the behind the scenes photos and info in the pages of the packaging.

This is a really awesome collection of Spider-Man. The entire Toby Maguire and Sam Raimi story. This contains Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2.1, and Spider-Man 3 as well as a fourth did with all bonus features for all the movies, I believe, all though I've yet to watch it. My biggest gripe with this set, as with most collectors sets, is that for some reason, these companies decide that putting discs in cardboard slots is a good idea. It isn't. This will eventually scratch the discs. Actual disc slots would be best.

This collects all three Tobey Maguire-starring Spider-Man flicks in one package (including the extended Spider-Man 2.1 and a new cut of Spider-Man 3, it's technically five movies), and it quickly reminds you that--save for the effects work--this was always better than the two Amazing Spider-Man movies that came after. While Spider-Man 3 kind of crumbles under its own weight, the first two remain all-time superhero classics, and they're definitely all up for multiple viewings.

This is a great movie set to own if you have never owned it before or if you are truly a huge fan of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie. The plus is the nice packaging. You also get a new editor's cut for Spider-Man 3, but I wouldn't buy this set because of this new cut because it doesn't improve the movie that much. I would say for fans or collectors (like myself).
