    Synopsis

    Spy Game
Brad Pitt is reunited as a co-star with his A River Runs Through It (1992) director Robert Redford for this espionage thriller from Tony Scott. On the verge of retirement from the Central Intelligence Agency, veteran spy Nathan Muir (Redford) learns that his one-time protégé Tom Bishop (Pitt) has gone rogue and been taken prisoner after attempting to smuggle a prisoner out of China. Although Muir and Bishop had once been close friends, sharing adventures from Vietnam to Berlin, bad blood and resentment developed between them, and the two men haven't seen each other in years. As his memories of their friendship come flooding back, Muir sets about arranging the rescue of his old friend from a Communist jail. Spy Game (2001) co-stars Catherine McCormack as a human rights activist and Bishop's love interest. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

The quality of the blu-ray transfer was excellent. I loved the pairing of these two talented actors. It's not an action movie, rather a (slow methodical drawn out) drama of espionage and the entanglements that develop as a result of the job and the consequences of the game they play. One of the highlights (in my opinion and this is revealed in the movie's trailer so it is not a spoiler) of the movie is the rooftop scene. Bishop in his conversation with Muir argues that "it is not a game". Muir argues back that it is and "it's not a game you (Bishop) want to lose". He warns him "you go off the reservation I will not come after you" (one of his several tutelage advise during his training). The movie encompasses Bishops capture and imprisonment that leads to up the finale. Sorry can't spill the beans, you'll just have to watch.

      Todays Star versus Old Star

Hollywood is trying to link the old school Hollywood by using Robert Redford, the all american good looking actor from the fifties and sixties, to the current screen idol Brad Pitt. One does think that putting these two in the same shot, one cannot help comparing the actors. Is this what Brad will look like in thirties years? Robert's acting is always consistantly good and Brad's theatrics, such as throwing a chair off a high rise building in suppose anger(heaven help the people that the chair landed on) is sometimes too funny. Brad looks out of place in Vietnam, I don't remember military haircut lookin like the Beatles hairdo. Brad was not cast well for this part. Robert was. The rest of the cast in the CIA meeting was casted well and realistic. Overall it was not a bad movie...

pick up this title and you'll get a superb cast and a compelling storyline. the action comes sporadically, but plot twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your couch. One of Brad Pitt's best roles; even compared to ocean's 11/12/13 and mr. and mrs. smith.
