Most Consistently Good Horror Anthology Series!!

Having been terrified as a child by this series' opening, and then having seen episodes as an adult on cable, I came to appreciate it tremendously, despite not seeing all that much of it. Well, totally contrary to the criticisms of the audiences prevalent today which don't possess the mindset to appreciate this kind of horror/oddball sort of content, being, I believe, well into the second season, I AM AWESTRUCK AT THE CONSISTENCY WITH WHICH THE EPISODES OF THIS SERIES CONTAINED VERY HIGHLY ENTERTAINING AND INTERESTING STORIES!! I have watched other '80s-'90s horror anthology series in the form of home video sets before, and let me tell you; they are totally hit or miss by comparison to this one!! I don't know if I should really name the others, and they are classic series which are, overall, worthy of praise, one having an intro in which an unusual family gathers around their living room TV to watch the show (an example of those dearly missed nonsensical, paradoxical concepts in movies and TV, and especially music videos, which were prevalent in the '80s and into the '90s) and the other being hosted by a very punny animatronic corpse, but, in my opinion, Tales From The Darkside blows them both out of the water!!

It's great to finally have a collection of all episodes of this show to watch at convenience. The only real problem is that the packaging for these discs isn't ideal. This happens more than it should with collection sets of full series where the companies want to pack them as cheaply as possible thus not always providing the best protection for the discs themselves. This isn't the worst offender but I do wish the packaging was a bit better. As for the show itself, it's a great nostalgia trip. Picture quality isn't much better than original broadcasts but it's well enough to still enjoy. As with most collections like this there are some good episodes, some OK episodes, and some that aren't really anything special. If you're looking at this collection you most likely have already seen the show and if you haven't then I do recommend scouring online to preview a few episodes before purchase.

    Great series, HORRIBLE case

This newly repackaged set holds the discs in the worst way possible. The 12 discs are held by a single plastic case that is unanchored to the overall packaging, which means the discs bounce around the packaging at all times. My set arrived (from B&N) with 2 of the discs rattling in the packaging & one disc was scratched 12+ times. The replacement set, which I received a few days later, also had 1 disc that was rattled loose & scratched to pieces. While the new cover art & slipcover are "pretty," buying the more expensive set might be the safest way to obtain the series. If you do order this reissued set, REQUEST IT SHIP IN A BOX!

Fans of Tales from the Darkside who held out buying the individual sets, your patience has paid off. Now you can have the entire series in one box, but be careful: if I have one complaint about this complete series, it's that the case all of the discs are in is prone to having at least one pop loose when you open it for the first time. They sit loosely in a plastic binder - if you've seen the Beavis and Butt-head set or the Star Trek: Enterprise set, you'll know what I mean. The discs are the same as the original sets, so be prepared for the replaced music on some episodes, but it's a set that eats up less space at a price that won't break the bank.

I've always loved Tales From The Darkside, and was able to watch the final season when it originally aired. Like most anthology series, some episodes are great, some good, and some you only will watch once. I was excited to add this entire series to my media library, but the video quality is poor - it looks about as good as it did on broadcast TV back in the late 80's. Still, I'm happy to revisit the show, and the price for 12 DVD's was good.

Great collection, but an update would've been nice

Essentially the same discs that were released as individual seasons, just together (in a cheap plastic case). An update to the fidelity would've been welcome, but honestly, this show will never get the love it deserves. So, even though it's an obvious "let's push this out into a complete series cash grab package" type thing, it's still a great way to own one of the best horror series' ever.

This series from George A. Romero started out as an extension of Creepshow, which is one of the greatest Anthology Movies of all time. I have really enjoyed pouring over each disc, encountering VERY few stinker episodes. One thing that really struck me as funny now is the fear around computers. As the series was made in the 80s, any time computers are brought up, it's hilariously outdated.

Do you like horror? Do you like comedy? Do you like it when horror hooks up with comedy for a weekend? If you're into that then you'll be into this! Sure, not all of the stories make sense, but you're sure to enjoy every episode for what they are: vignettes of creep from some of the early 80's best horror minds!
