Package description: Swing into action and adventure with Disney's original classic, Tarzan, packed with fun-filled bonus features and award-winning music such as the memorable "You'll Be in My Heart" and "Trashin' the Camp." Disney's magnificent animated adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' story of the ape man begins deep within the jungle when baby Tarzan is adopted by a family of gorillas. Even though he is shunned as a "hairless wonder" by their leader, Tarzan is accepted by the gorillas and raised as one of their own. Together with his wisecracking ape buddy Terk and neurotic elephant pal Tantor, Tarzan learns how to "surf" and swing through the trees and survive in the animal kingdom. His "two worlds" collide with the arrival of humans, forcing Tarzan to choose between a "civilized" life with the beautiful Jane and the life he knows and loves with his gorilla family. Filled with humor, heart and hilarious fun, Tarzan is an unforgettable adventure you'll watch again and again.

    Synopsis

    Tarzan
Author Edgar Rice Burroughs once suggested that animation would be the ideal medium to bring his Tarzan to the screen, and 81 years after the first film about the famous ape-man, Disney brings us the first full-length animated film starring the King of the Jungle. After a disaster at sea causes their ship to sink off the coast of Africa, a British couple finds their way to shore with their infant son in tow. However, the parents are killed by a leopard, leaving the baby to fend for himself. The child is discovered by a gorilla named Kala (voice of Glenn Close), mate of Kerchak (voice of Lance Henriksen), the leader of the tribe of apes. While Kerchak is taken aback by the foundling and would just as soon leave him in the jungle, Kala's maternal nature is stirred. Kala and Kerchak take the baby with them, naming him Tarzan and raising him among their own. Although Tarzan (voice of Tony Goldwyn) grows up painfully aware that he's different from the apes, he comes to love and respect the gorillas and learns their ways, while they accept him into their tribe as he grows to adulthood. However, Tarzan's idyllic life in the jungle is changed forever by the arrival of Professor Porter (voice of Nigel Hawthorne), his daughter Jane (voice of Minnie Driver), and their guide, a hunter named Clayton (voice of Brian Blessed). The Professor and Jane have arrived in Africa to study the wildlife in its natural habitat, although Clayton would prefer to bag as many trophies as he can. When the explorers encounter Tarzan, they at first think they've discovered the missing link, although soon realize that he's as human as they are. Tarzan finds himself torn between his desire to be with his own kind (and the new, unfamiliar emotions that he feels for Jane) and his loyalties to the gorilla family that raised him -- especially since Clayton sees the apes not as friends but as prey. Dominated by fast-paced jungle action sequences, Tarzan also features voices by Rosie O'Donnell and Wayne Knight, as well as new songs by Phil Collins. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Tarzan is a great Blu-ray on a technical level, and it features decent special features. The deleted scenes are great as it’s nice to see some more footage. The “Research Trip to Africa” and “The Making of the Music” featurettes are great insight into the making of the film. Tarzan isn’t one of Disney’s best animated movies, but it sure is good. This release is a must own for Disney fans, and the quality won’t disappoint. If it weren't for Phil Collins, this'd be perfect

Getting right to crux of the issue, I think this is a really good disney movie, but I really think Phil Collins' voice is jarring and takes away from the film. I think they were going for something similar the acclaim that Elton John brought to the Lion King soundtrack, but this just doesn't seem to fit that well. I'm not saying that the songs are bad, or even that Phil Collins is a bad musician, but there's just something about his vocals that don't mesh with this movie's theme or artistic elements. Aside from that, I thin Tarzan is a wonderful disney movie and highly recommend it.

Many memorable characters and Disney-lized story of Tarzan that will be enjoyed for any age viewer. The animation style is simple, but very colorful. The sound is dynamic and will benefit from the use of a better sound system. For the best picture, the Blu-Ray version is the one to watch. An engrossing and fun tale that deserves repeat viewing, as you will spot something new each time. A must-have in any collection.

Modern day animation masters who looked up to the 9 Old Men that helped start the Disney Studio come into their own in an era where new technology like "deep canvas" for backgrounds meets hand drawn animation. While not as over all "dark" in nature as "Hunchback of Notre Dame," the beginning of the film might be too scary for younger audiences. Still, the mastery of Glen Keane's animation for the character of Tarzan is a high water mark in modern hand drawn animation. Not to be missed.

Tarzan is fantastic. I can't say enough about this movie except why did it take so long to release it on bluray?? I say that for many of the great disney titles, though, like Aladdin. Tarzan is one of those Disney cartoons, though, that employed a brilliant idea for music. There are certain movies they have that come complete with music that will get stuck in your head, and Tarzan has one of them! It's a fantastic story. Love this!

Disney's 37th animated feature wonderfully blends traditional and CG animation. The story is energetically-told, and lots of fun. Viewers with large monitors have complained about some intermittent video issues (aliasing, pixilation, banding), but I didn't notice any of those issues on my 42" display. To me, the colors, contrast, and detail looked great. Audio was solid, as well. Decent amount of extra features.

You don't get much better than some of the classic Disney movies. This is one of my favorite Disney movies, it has a great theme and is more original than all the princess movies out there. I would highly recommend this movie. One disclaimer though, for parents with really young children I would pre-screen the scene in the beginning with Tarzan's parents to make sure your child won't be to frightened by it.

This movie is nostalgia in a disc. I can still remember hearing Phil Collins play his timeless music through this film as a child, and in my adulthood I realize it has gotten better paired with the superb enhancement of blue ray! This movie will forever be in my heart
