Synopsis

Ted
A man wrestles with the lingering consequences of a childhood wish in this live-action comedy from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. As a young boy, John Bennett wanted nothing more than for his beloved teddy bear Ted (voice of MacFarlane) to come to life. Incredibly, that wish was granted. But now that John (Mark Wahlberg) is all grown up, his boyhood dream has become a nightmare nuisance. Mila Kunis, Joel McHale, and Giovanni Ribisi co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Loved it

I saw this movie in theaters and I remember the entire theater roaring up in laughter literally every single minute. It sometimes got to a point where I couldn't even hear the dialogue due to the laughter. It is just that funny. Absolutely loved it so you can imagine I was really looking forward to the Blu-Ray release....granted, I'm also a big fan of Judd Apatow movies and Family Guy so this type of humor is up my alley. If you're in the same boat, I think you'd like it too. Bonus points if you grew up in the 80's, have a best friend that you grew up with, and love pop culture. That being said, this movie is not for everybody. I would never recommend this film to my grandmother...or my parents for that matter. For anyone on the fence about it, don't watch it because you're a fan of Marky Mark. Watch Family Guy first to get a feel for it because this movie has a significantly stronger influence from Seth McFarlane than from Mark Wahlberg.

What Can I Say about a Foul-Mouthed Teddy Bear?

"Ted" was an amusing film from the gutter mouth behind "Family Guy," "American Dad," and "The Cleveland Show," writer/actor Seth McFarlane. In "Ted", we get an actually heart-warming tale of a man and his childhood teddy bear, whom he wished could talk. His wish was granted, and little John Bennett grew up with his best friend, Ted, a teddy bear with a heart of gold and a mouth like a sailor. Now an adult, Bennett and Ted smoke pot, drink beers, and watch "Flash Gordon" together. But Bennett's girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis, "That '70s Show", "Forgetting Sarah Marshall") thinks it's time that Ted go, so that she can remake John into a proper adult. The cast is great, with Patrick Stewart ("Star Trek: The Next Generation") narrating and character actors Giovanni Ribisi ("Avatar," "My Name Is Earl") and Joel McHale ("Community", E!'s "The Soup") rounding out the cast. Don't expect "Masterpiece Theatre" here, kids, or even a cuddly Disney film, because that this ain't. But it's not a bad two hours spent, either.

A boy who never grew up

About a boy who never grew up and hangs out with his best pal, a live Teddy Bear who has a Boston accent, smokes pot, swears like a sailor and hits on hot women. The first hour is hysterical with their fascination with Flash Gordon. They finally get to party with Flash and Ted gets Mark Wahlberg in trouble with his girlfriend. Ted has to move out, get a job and deal with separation with his best friend. After the first hour, the movie dives really badly when Ted gets kidnapped. Big chase scene and everyone learns to live with each others faults. Great movie for the first hour and then DIVES badly. If you want to laugh for 60 mins, get this movie. It has replay value. Not really good for kids. Think of it as a 60 min comedy show that does not know how to end itself.

After being beat down by Hollywood's recent (say, the last 15 years) interpretation of comedy, I was skeptical of this movie. But, since it seemed different from your basic mindless, re-hash comedy(Epic Movie), or endless do-over (W. Farrell, J. Carey), thought I'd give it a chance. After watching Ted, I was actually happy to have taken the time to see it, and that doesn't happen often in this age of re-makes and sequels. Being 49 years old, it's tough to come across a new, funny comedy. This is definitely one. Admittedly, there are one, or two, scenes that even made me cringe. This is NOT a movie for kids, or folks whose laces are tied a bit tight(as noted by a few bad reviews,... 'What did you expect, Teddy Ruxpin?'). Most people will find this quite funny. 'Most'.

    Very Funny Rated R Comedy

This movie stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, and the voice of Seth MacFarlane (of Family Guy fame) as Ted. Its the story of Mark Wahlbergs character as a child wishing for a friend and getting a real live teddy bear. They grow up and hilarity ensues. I believe this is the highest grossing rated R movie of all time so that should be all you need to know. This version comes with a theatrical and unrated version of the films and also contains an HD Digital Copy that can be redeemed on CinemaNow, Vudu, Flixster and others. The majority of the jokes would be considered "low brow" humor but that is part of its charm in my opinion. Seth MacFarlane goes to great lengths to be rude and crude and it works.

Basically, if you liked Family Guy before it became unwatchable, this movie should be pleasing to you. Many of the jokes in the movie are surprising and unusual, and the humor depends a lot on the characters and their relationships. Fortunately, Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis deliver plenty of heart and charm to the story, and their performances are the reason so much of the humor works. The unrated edition on the disc doesn't add a huge amount of value, but it brings a few decent new laughs and is probably the best version of the movie to watch.

I love Seth MacFarlane stuff, but the previews for this movie just weren't catching my interest. I finally watched it though and was very surprised. This is one of the funniest movies I have seen for quite awhile. No wonder the previews didn't do it justice.....they can't show most of the hilarious stuff on the previews.....wouldn't get past the censors.

So, we were behind the curve and only recently saw this movie despite it being out 5 years. We watched the unrated version and found it less than we anticipated. We had heard from others how hysterically funny the movie is. Kind of a let down. Maybe the theatrical version is different and less in-your-face. Or, more probably, people over 60 are not the target market for the film. Good for a one-time watch. We'll probably put in the next garage sale
