Synopsis

The Terminator
Endlessly imitated, The Terminator made the reputation of cowriter/director James Cameron -- who would go on to make 1997's titanic Titanic -- and solidified the stardom of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movie begins in a post-apocalyptic 2029, when Los Angeles has been largely reduced to rubble and is under the thumb of all-powerful ruling machines. Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), a member of the human resistance movement, is teleported back to 1984. His purpose: to rescue Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), the mother of the man who will lead the 21st-century rebels against the tyrannical machines, from being assassinated before she can give birth. Likewise thrust back to 1984 is The Terminator (Schwarzenegger), a grim, well-armed, virtually indestructable cyborg who has been programmed to eliminate Sarah Connor. After killing two "Sarah Connors" who turn out to be the wrong women, he finally aims his gunsights at the genuine article. This is the film in which Schwarzenegger declared "I'll be baaaack" -- and back he was, in "kinder and gentler" form, in the even more successful Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Finally some justice! This version is for the purist, who love to see every inch of grain, without edge enhancements or filtering period! I was very delighted with the visuals, which have never looked better.. The Sound Quality is very good, with a PCM 5.1 audio mix, showing some deep bass frequencies and fantastic center channel volumes. The mixing of the channels shows someone put some TLC into it. I actually heard things that I never did from VHS or Standard DVD.. This really is a great Scifi masterpiece even after 25 years and this remaster is the finest I have ever seen or heard! - 16 x 9 Enhanced (1:85.1) - 5.1 PCM Sound Uncompressed - 5.1 Digital Dolby soundtrack included in English & French - (subs) English, French, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Thai. - 7 Deleted scenes - Creating the Terminator visual effects and music - Terminator a retrospective

Although he deservedly became a star with Conan The Barbarian, Arnold Schwartzenegger became a superstar as the title character in this flick. He's an unstoppable android killing machine sent from the future to kill a woman whose actions are destined to eventually lead to the destruction of those who built Arnold. However, she gains an ally in a soldier, also sent from the future. Both Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn (the woman & soldier, respectively) are instantly likable and sympathetic. Hence, our fear of Arnold's Terminator exemplifies as he persues them throughout the film. Even the police officers (played here by Paul Winfield & Lance Henriksen) aren't the cliched, pompous movie cops often seen, but are actually a bit more thoughtful and intelligent. Although the film itself has a relatively low budget, it's SFX are still first-rate, and the ending is actually more downbeat that it at first appears. The film's director, James Cameron, also scored his first hit with this film, which led to other classics from him such as Aliens and Titanic.

I was very happy to find this remastered version available on sale but when I went to get it, the cover art was very different than what is pictured. While I don't mind Arnold on the cover, it also came with a special "90th Anniversary" cover glued onto the clear plastic outside of the Blu-ray case but I was really looking forward to the eccentric art pictured. Granted I bought this upgraded version since it has been remastered and garners better reviews so the cover was not a deal breaker. The SKU matches and it speifies "remastered" on the back so it is the correct version. To top it off, I kept the original lenticular slipcase since I didn't get the eccentric cover art so I'm happy. Anyway The Terminator does look the best it ever has, the audio remix is a little better than before but still suffers from the age of the film but a worthy upgrade or new purchase if you're interested.

Almost everyone has seen this; so will confine my comments to the transfer. This movie has previously been released on Blu-ray(and DVD); the sound format was PCM 5.1(and, quite good); the video was just slightly better resolution than the DVD. The video for this one is clearly better than the previous offering. The special features for this one are the same as the first Blu-ray offering. If you have the original "Special Edition" DVD of "The Terminator(a 2-sided disc)"; I would advise you to hold on to it as it has a number of Special Features(or Bonus Features) that were not transferred to either of the Blu-ray editions. This Blu-ray uses the DTS-HD Master Lossless 5.1 format for the movie. The sound and picture are great! I can recommend this most highly!

After buying the Terminator movies on every available format, I thought I was finally done when I bought the bluray a year or two ago. Little did I know that the picture quality was very poor. After viewing some screen caps on caps-a-holic.com, I saw quite a difference and decided to use my U&S coupon on this remastered version. The only gripe was that the special features were the same ones found on the previous version, which made me think that the studio could care less about the overall package, although they did take the time to clean up the image. I'm glad I waited and paid only $5 for a movie I've bought numerous times before. This is the last time I will buy this movie.

I love Arnold, I love this classic, I love blu rays, and most of all I love remasters that ACTUALLY make a difference. This is the only blu ray out there that did it right from the original master, the video has far less grain, better resolution, and less artifacts than previous releases of this film. For me the movie itself is a 5/5, especially considering the time and low budget they had making it. The sound & audio now move up to 4/5, again considering the time it was made and it being a low budget film. I think they squeezed the most they could benefit from out of this great film as far as visual and audio remastering. For the price, It is one amazing buy.

This movie needs no introduction. Suffice it to say, you already know it is a great movie. However, the superb video and audio found on this disc makes it that much better. We are graced with a lossless PCM 5.1 audio track and a video quality that blows away any other version of the film. To suggest that people pick up an out of print DVD over this one purely for the lost special features is just silly. This print has clearly been gone over with a fine tooth comb by Sony. It looks simply amazing. Any fan of the film would be happy to have this one in their collection.
