Part 1 of latest Spidy version well done and fun
||Posted .Andrew Garfield's version plays to the tech-gen as a thoughtful outsider searching for answers. Emma Stone's Gwen seems too mature. Rhys Ifans (Danny Deckchair) teeters between good acting and comic-charactering. The CGI is top notch. The story is re-too-old. Sally Field and Martin Sheen nail it; creating a mixed bag yet it's all good fun with great action. Even Denis Leary adds depth under cop stereo types. Don't ponder the mismatched mass physics of the large lizard tussles.

No Digital Copy - Buyer Beware
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Film is fine - the issue I have is that this DOES NOT come with a digital copy, even though it’s advertised as having one. As you can see, the blu ray cover is missing “ultraviolet,” which is clearly shown in the advertised product.

beautiful exclusive artwork for this steel book!
Posted .the steelbook is beautiful! and its exclusive, only available at bestbuy. it contains the 3d bluray, bluray, bluray special features and a single dvd. it also comes with ultra violet and the spiderman peanut butter cookie recipe. the special features are good. just wish there was more to them. feels a lil lackluster, not even the trailer for the movie is on this set oddly. there are deleted/alternate/extended scenes, short featurettes of behind the scenes, and pre/post production, as well as art illustrations of the movie. its definitely a great purchase for the steelbook alone. get it before they sell out!

Fitting Reboot of a Comic Legend
||Posted .After watching the first five minutes of The Amazing Spiderman, I knew I was gonna like it; after the first hour (which includes a lot of exposition without being tedious) I actually preferred this one to the Raimi versions mainly cuz I think it possesses an intensity and believability that the previous films lacked. Marvel seems to be producing more mature, rebooted versions of all their super-hero series and I actually prefer this variation on the Spider Man story as well, especially the disappearance of the pointless Mary Jane obsession (which always made me respect Spidey a little less). I suspect that a more scientifically savvy audience appreciates an ever evolving origins story and I also enjoyed the initial dealing-with-new-superpowers interlude which was very amusing and again just seemed a much more realistic reaction from Peter Parker to his new abilities. Exceptional performances for Peter and Gwen are what truly make this production stand out from every other action-packed big-budget flick out there, not to mention a truly scary and menacing super-villain causing some sequences to play a little like a horror film. The tragic loss of his uncle is intensely emotional making the motivation for becoming a vigilante seem more credible, while the use of fantasy tech to supplement his powers added to this as well. love Martin Sheen as uncle Ben, never been much of a Sally Fields fan but apparently the producers were looking for star power to offset the use of mostly unknowns in the starring roles (which I think was a stroke of brilliance by the way). The FX action sequences are seamless, gorgeous, captivating and again convincing (hitting on this alot I know but I think it's an essential factor). It's the details that make the difference, like while on the job at dizzying heights getting a call on his cell from aunt May reminding him to pick up eggs on his way home. The wise-cracking Spidey is not only back but actually funny with flawless comedic timing throughout and the gratuitous Stan Lee cameo was priceless. This is a new Spider-man, a better one, one whom you will be emotionally invested in by the dramatic ending which brilliantly wraps up an all-around excellent, excellent film! :)

It's difficult to "reboot" a sucessfull franchise.
||Posted .It's difficult to "reboot" a successful franchise. The Sam Rami series had it's faults and positives. One great choice the new franchise makes is in Andrew Garfield. I believed he was the quippy borderline jerk when he was Spiderman. I absolutely believed he was the shy/awkward geek when Parker. Emma Stone is a fantastic love interest. Replacing a great Aunt May and Uncle Ben was also no easy task, but one that was very well chosen. The film also made me want to know a lot more about Parker's parents (something the other franchise didn't), which I guess we may get in the sequel. As far as story . . . well it's an origin movie so we get another retelling of how Parker gets to be Spiderman. This one was pretty good, my only issue is he can't possibly be the only person to ever get bitten by these genetically altered spiders. They're in a giant facility where apparently people can just waltz in. And if he isn't the first, why did he survive? Very little explanation, but if it gets us to him MAKING HIS OWN WEBSHOOTERS and swinging from building to building I'm in. Although the villain is very well chosen both story and acting wise, it gets tiring to see another bad guy with dual personalities (I know it's a reboot, but didn't we just deal with that the entire last franchise with Goblin?). All in all it's definitely a set up movie for the sequel. It's fun, funny, and has 100% less whine (looking at you Tobey Maguire). Plus how can you go wrong with Denis Leary as the police captain/father you would never want to meet?
