Synopsis

The Haunting in Connecticut
Inspired by the frightening true-life tale of a family that moved into a converted funeral home and subsequently fell under supernatural attack, director Peter Cornwell's The Haunting in Connecticut follows the quest of a desperate mother to free her family from the grip of an evil beyond human comprehension. Sara (Virginia Madsen) and Peter Campbell (Martin Donovan) have just moved to Connecticut with their young son, Matt, when the young boy experiences a series of disturbing events that lead him to believe a malevolent force is attempting to take control of his family. Back when the home was still a funeral parlor, the original owner's clairvoyant assistant, Jonah, served as a gateway for restless spirits seeking to cross over into the physical realm. When Jonah returns to unleash a new kind of horror on the innocent family, Sara enlists the aid of enigmatic priest Popescu (Elias Koteas) in driving the evil out before it consumes her son's body and soul. At first it appears that Popescu has been successful in driving the spirits away, but then the terror becomes more intense than ever before. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    DISAPOINTMENT (BIGGEST)

After watching this movie I would have to say this was the biggest disappointment ever. I could not wait for this new movie to come out after watching it on the History Channel with “A Haunting” stories. I own all four seasons and love them all. My favorite is the A Haunting in Connecticut by far. The new movie did not stick to the scrip at all. If they shot the movie using the true events and stuck to the real story it would have been one of the scariest movies ever. The true events told by the real family made my hair on the back of my head stand up and made me speechless for days. I left the lights on for days in my house. I know silly right? This by far was a movie made without research and not much from the family’s input. Ed and Larine was never in this movie at all. You would know who they are if you know anything about haunted houses or possession. They are known all around the world and never mentioned in this new show once. This movie should have not even used the name A Haunting in Connecticut since it was nothing like the real thing. The movie opens up with a lady sitting in the dark and you never see the face telling you it’s based on a true story. I’m starting to wonder if it was the real mother at all now from the History Channel. This movie had me wanting to leave and it had me shaking my head in disbelief that they messed it up so bad. This movie was so far off and the biggest disappointment in horror films ever. Save yourself the money and just get the real deal with the History Channel trust me on this one.

This was a great horror movie, my wife and I loved it! This movie was dissed by certain critics because it steers away from the true story a bit. Hollywood does this for movie completion. The story is still real just altered a little bit for the sake of film making. The movie and the true story, done by the Discovery Channel, are both good and I recommend watching both for the whole story. Some people were upset that Ed and Lorraine, the real psychic investigaters that did the case, weren't in the movie. First off, Ed has since deceased, it was out of respect for Lorraine that they were taken out. Second, they were replaced by a preacher. No big deal. My only complaint, which is my same complaint from Unborn, is that there's no difference between the unrated and rated. Saying it's the unrated cut just to sell it isn't right, in my opinion. To me it's pointless! But, the movie itself is extremely good. I highly recommend it! I also recommend Unborn, but just watch the unrated version. (Apparently there's an extra minute in there some where, but my wife and I couldn't tell.)

The Hunting in Connecticut is not all that scary of movie until you watch it on blu-ray and in surround sound. Blu-ray allows one to watch a movie in high fidelity video and sound. The scare factor in any horror movie will be amplified at least two fold when watching the movie and listening to it through a good home theater system also. I think everyone needs to experience going from virtually no sound coming out of the speakers to all of a sudden a very loud sound as some monster, ghost, or serial killer jumps out and attacks. You may leave your seat as my wife does and did during this movie. The Hunting in Connecticut is recorded in DTS-HD Master Audio which provides a good soundstage for making a scary movie even scarier. I enjoyed watching this movie and would recommend this movie to anyone, especially if you have a home theater system.

This movie was so good. The plot was so creative, even though they changed it a lot from what really happened. Origionally it was a single demon that haunted the house not a claire voyant but it was good all the same. What's so amazing about this movie was that it was classic, some might say cliche, but to me it was just a good old fashioned horror movie. Some truth to it, lots of things popping out at you, a little creepy, some gore here and there, and a tragic back story. I have to say that the plot got a little confusing. I had to see it twice to fully understand what was going on in the movie. But it was worth it to see again.

I would recommend this movie for someone looking for a good flick to watch around Halloween. The acting was good and the story line flowed well. There were no real slow spots throughout the movie where it lost my attention. Movie effects were good and caught me off guard even when I was expecting something to happen. A nice edition to anyone's video collection.

If you know the true story then don't bother watching the movie because only a few things are actually correct in the movie. If you don't know the story its an alright movie. Just don't believe that its all real... BECAUSE IT IS NOT. Not very scary. Only a few moments where things jump out at you.
