Synopsis

The Iron Giant: Signature Edition
Digitally re-mastered and rereleased to the silver screen, this box-office misfire became a beloved animated work and cult favorite. A boy's best friend is his robot in this animated adventure from Brad Bird, best known for his TV work on such series as The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and The Critic. Set in 1957, The Iron Giant focuses on Hogarth (voice of Eli Marienthal), an imaginative nine-year-old boy who daydreams of alien invasions and doing battle with Communist agents. One day, Hogarth hears a local fisherman talk about something that surpasses anything he could dream up: a fifty-foot robot that fell from the sky into a nearby lake. Needless to say, Hogarth's mom, Annie (voice of Jennifer Aniston) finds this a little hard to swallow, but when Hogarth finds the robot (voice of Vin Diesel) and fishes him out of the water, his pal Dean (voice of Harry Connick Jr.), a beatnik sculptor who also runs a junkyard, offers to help by hiding the robot with his salvage. A government agent named Kent Mansley (voice of Christopher McDonald) soon gets wind that there's a mechanical invader of unknown origins in the neighborhood and wants to wipe out the potential threat. However, the robot (which loves to eat metal and is learning to talk) turns out to be friendly, and the boy in turn tries to teach his new pal the ways of humans. ~ Daniel Gelb, Rovi

The Iron Giant: Signature Edition (Ultimate Collector's Edition) At long last we have the the Iron Giant on Blu Ray: and it's safe to say, the long wait was undenaibly WORTH IT. As a collector of Limited Edition films and other movie purchases, this is a must have set. As a fan of Iron Giant and it being, in my eyes at least the Greatest and Criminally Underrated Film of All Time, this Gift Box Set... is ESSENTIAL TO HAVE. It's a Limited Edition of 15,000 in counting and comes with a variety of features to enjoy: -The Iron Giant Signature Edition available with 2 Discs (Blu Ray and DVD), as well as Digital Download which is BEAUTIFULLY Remastered and contains 2 additional scenes that were intended for the first cut of the film. -A Collector's Black Box with a Foil Cover -5 Posters on Card Print by artist MONDO -A 32 Page Book with ecstactic artwork and a summary of how the film was made. -A New Documentary "The Giant's Dream" and other Featurettes -And last, but not LEAST an minitature Iron Giant figure with a display platform: this object is special to me due that it's very reminiscent or pretty much THE EXACT SAME figure that came out with the film on VHS for it's first home release about 15-16 Years ago. This set is beautiful beyond compare. If you love this film as much as I do, this is collection is a MUST HAVE. It's the perfect set for long time fans of the film and even for viewers who haven't seen this film.

Why this film ended up being a box office disappointment mainly because I've watched this film countless times as a kid and so has most (if not, all) of my friends. But regardless, its honestly one of the best animated films ever made and Warner Bros should've had more confidence in the film from when it was initially released to its blu-ray release. And I don't why this was the case, but The Iron Giant wasn't available on blu-ray at 3 different Best Buy locations in my area (so I ordered my blu-ray online). I don't know if they're quietly putting this on shelves like what they did with the DVD. Heck, I wasn't even aware of the DVD/Digital release a few months ago. So when I found out about that, of course, I was confused as to why they released it on DVD and Digital but efforts couldn't have been made to release the blu-ray with the other two releases mentioned above. So when I got the blu-ray in the mail and I'm actually really disappointed that they gave a Blu-ray, DVD and Digital packaging for The Limited Edition but couldn't do this for the regular Blu-Ray edition given how that was released with JUST the blu-ray when it was obvious that they could've done more with it like make it a Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital combo (which is what they should've done). So even to this day, Warner Bros still doesn't have the confidence for this film like they should and its honestly quite sad. Oh well, at least the film was finally released on Blu-Ray after holding it off from the DVD/Digital releases for several months for no reason whatsoever.

The Iron Giant on Blu-ray does not disappoint. Two versions of the film are supplemented with a commentary, multiple making of featurettes, deleted scenes, and more. Almost all the bonus features from the past DVDs are on this new Blu-ray! The audio and video is a huge upgrade from the DVD and the new documentary “The Giant’s Dream” offers a candid look at director Brad Bird and the troubled production that became an animation classic. I highly encourage you to make this Blu-ray a part of your collection. You will get your money’s worth from this purchase. If you have seen the movie and don’t own it, if you are looking to upgrade to Blu-ray, or if you are just looking for a good blind buy, The Iron Giant on Blu-ray is a must have!

One of the great benefits of being a grandpa is being able to watch movies such as The Iron Giant with a grandson--and being blown away by what a beautiful take it is on the value of friendship and trust, done so in a manner that indelibly imparts a valuable lesson to the soul of our youth. This is a movie about abiding trust amidst grave uncertainty and trying boundaries-stretching, beautifully, eloquently, and adventurously portrayed. I would unhesitantly use the word "Masterpiece" to describe this wonderful movie made for all the young at heart!

The Iron Giant was an instant classic the moment it went to theaters, but because of terrible marketing, Warner Bros. doomed the release to flop impossibly hard at the box office. But, happily, as time went on, the deserved attention was awarded, and now is hailed as not only one of the best animated films of all time and Brad Bird's finest film to date, but a classic film overall. The blu-ray, finally released in 2016, just goes to show that proof with exceptional animation and a truly wonderful story with fun and fantastic characters.

This movie brought back memories from when our children were young, so my wife wanted to get it for our grandson to watch with us when he visits. The movie tells of a loner boy who makes friends with an alien machine. Throughout the movie, the boy is teaching the Iron Giant things that he can and cannot do. The boy is also trying to help the Iron Giant to remember where he is from. In the end, the Iron Giant is faced with a dilemma of protecting the humans and sacrificing himself or letting the humans die over the decision of one man.

I may be an adult but I enjoy animated films that are smart enough intellectually and fun at the same time. I also like things that I can watch with my own family without worrying about the content. This is one of those films. The story is simple, the characters are likable, the dialogue is smart enough for adults and the length is about perfect. I also prefer everything on Blu-ray so I get the best picture and sound possible. This is just a fun picture that everyone can enjoy. Recommended.

The Iron Giant is the victim of being a non-Disney animated film. Disney animated films are a brand that people trust; if an animated film is not a Disney one, tit is often overlooked, which is what occurred to this gem of a film. This movie is superb! It has beautiful animation, great colors and awesome voice acting. The Blu-Ray does justice with awesome bonus features, including an audio commentary. Teh picture and sound is what one expects from Blu-Ray. Do yourself a favor and purchase this gem of a film.
