    Synopsis

    The Last Days on Mars
A secret mission on the surface of Mars leads to a cosmic struggle between a dwindling team of space explorers and an unknown life form. The crew of the Tantalus Base is wrapping up the first manned mission to Mars when one astronaut discovers fossilized evidence of bacterial life. Determined to get credit for the historic find, the astronaut defiantly ventures out to collect more samples despite strict orders to remain on the ship. When the ground seems to swallow him whole, the remaining crew launch a rescue mission that leads to yet another mysterious disappearance. Meanwhile, with the relief ship Aurora drawing near, it begins to appear as if the life form discovered by the Tantalus Base crew is far from dead, and should it somehow find its way back to planet Earth, humankind's days could be numbered. Liev Schreiber, Olivia Williams, Elias Koteas, and Johnny Harris star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Even with all the terrible reviews of this movie, I still decided to pick it up on Blu-Ray on release day. I actually enjoyed it, it's well acted and directed and is a solid sci-fi suspense movie. The over-all story telling could have been better, but the film is entertaining. I wish the extras would have been a little better. For some reason, sci-fi movies are usually the only type of movies I love to see the behind the scenes of. While this movie has basic standard extras, I wish there was more. The PQ is consistent throughout, however the blacks are not always black and seem cloudy at times. This could be the intended filter on the movie, however I found it distracting and would rather have dark scenes be true black. Audio is solid and I enjoyed cranking this one up to hear the little noises and be blown away by the loud ones. Over-all it is a fun sci-fi flick and any fan of the genre should not hesitate to give this one a watch. Being a Liv Schreiber fan also will help as you progress through the film. Keep in mind this is a low budget independent movie, don't expect Transformers. More Moon style. Recommended!

I wanted to see this once I saw it on blu ray.com. The reviews from rotten tomatoes though had me skeptical. I have watched other movies from Magnet like The Colony, which was also great, yet had unfavorable reviews. This is another clear case of make your own decisions, go with your own gut, and ultimately buy this movie. It is great! The lead actors, well know Liev Schreiber, Elias Koteas and more are solid as ever. They bring the reality to the screen. I am tired of people claiming Magnet are B class movies or rentals at best, yes some are pretty bad, you just have to know which aren't. The Colony and this are examples of A class movies that compete with any other out there. Magnets main issue is tossing out too much to keep up profit wise, but I dare the huge companies to,produce such fine movies as this one and The Colony on the shoe string budget allotted for these. I highly recommend both these movies and more.

This movie is not like Europa Report or like Moon or Sunshine, all great science fiction films done as small independent movies with a relatively small budget. This film has its flaws namely being the internal conflicts from the mission crew and the lack of any story. I felt like the viewer is thrown in to the middle of a situation without knowing anything that led up to it. I did not expect a lot of action but I felt like it was hard to find any likable character that you actually feel concern about. It reminded me of a twilight zone or outer limits episode and I found the dialogue to contain too much swearing coming from a group of scientists hired to perform tests on Mars. However it did keep my attention thru out the film so I gave it a relatively high rating. I hope to see more from this director in the future.

I picked this film up on a whim and frankly it wasn't that bad. If you are here reading this review and have also found the Rotten Tomatoes score, you're possibly teetering on that decision to 'buy.' Apparently this film was shot with a low budget, but despite that - well the acting isn't actually that bad. The effects (SFX), props, costume - etc. like-wise again - not that bad. Is this movie a thought-provoking film about the consequences of exploring Mars? Well, not really. If you do like your films with an occasional adrenaline rush from tension and mental anxiety thrills - it will definitely provide that. 7/10 - Watchable Mars Schlock

Okay so it becomes another zombie survivalst movie. But it is done well and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Another what happens when man pushes the boundaries outside of earth. Somewhat new twist on what causes the people to degenrate into zombie like creatures and then go rampaging to suck the water out of other humans on Mars. Yes, you guessed it a virus/bacteria type infection. Twist is they die and the bacteria reanimates them and uses them as a host vessel to move to other feeding grounds. Classic SciFi story convention. Liev Schreiber rules the movie. Other characters are intersting if not cliched.

I enjoy all types of Sci-Fi movies, the good and sometimes the bad especially if it involves outer space travel. This movie was just ok for me; it had a few exciting moments, however it did not fulfill all of my fantasies. It is however, part of my collection and I will view it again after I have forgotten the story-line. The story line could have gained more traction if it involved the actual return to earth with the unknown virus and perhaps even tied it into the "living dead" movies that seem to explode in recent movies.

While this film has some similarities to "Europa Report", it was disappointing when you discover what they are fighting against. It changes from an SF film to a horror film and if you've seen ALIEN #Who hasn't?#, the plot points are almost identical. Still, it was fun enough for me to pay $5 for the BD on sale #what it would cost to see in a theatre if it came around again#. For most people, it's probably best as a rental. Acting, directing, cinematography all top notch! It's the story that falls down.

One more movie set on Mars which just doesn't quite work. This film borrows heavily from several other space exploration movies with a little bit of zombie action thrown in. The visuals are good enough, but there is a been there & seen that feel to most of the film with the cliche of smart people acting really dumb. Liev Schreiber is as good as he can be with such a 1 dimensional character. Fun enough if your expectations are fairly low.
