Ravaged by conflict and turmoil brought on by enemy forces, the once-powerful Empire now seems damaged and weakened. Many of the citizens have become victims of the ruthless and seemingly never-ending battle, losing their homeland and everything precious to them. With the mainland in ruins, there stands one last beacon of hope — Lazulis Island. Ruled by the renowned Count Arganan, the island houses a concentration of beasts in a single region, thanks to the Count's magical and mysterious weapons. Among those who come to the island seeking their fortune is Zael and his fellow band of mercenaries. When they catch the eye of the Count himself, it's up to Zael and his friends to complete the tasks put before them to gain the honorable status of knighthood. During one of these missions, Zael discovers a hidden site that grants him the power to gather his enemies in one place. With Zael's newfound power, will this be The Last Story?

The Last Story reunites creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and composer Nobuo Uematsu in this epic tale of survival against the odds. Beautiful prerendered cutscenes convey the full emotions and key story sequences, and the moving soundtrack helps create an emotional experience in this one-of-a-kind game. The innovative, real-time combat system involves strategic, party-based commands, including taking cover from enemy fire, destroying environments to gain a tactical advantage and drawing fire away from your allies to give them time to cast powerful support spells. Once you've mastered the battle system, you can test your skills online in co-op and versus modes with up to five other players and acquire special and rare items. Explore everything the Empire has to offer with more than 30 side quests and a special seek ability to help find hidden items scattered throughout the world.
