Synopsis

The Lion King
One of the most popular Disney animated musicals, The Lion King presents the story of a lion cub's journey to adulthood and acceptance of his royal destiny. Simba (voiced first by Jonathan Taylor Thomas, then by Matthew Broderick) begins life as an honored prince, the son of the powerful King Mufasa (voiced by James Earl Jones). The cub's happy childhood turns tragic when his evil uncle, Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons), murders Mufasa and drives Simba away from the kingdom. In exile, the young lion befriends the comically bumbling pair of Pumbaa the warthog (voiced by Ernie Sabella) and Timon the meerkat (voiced by Nathan Lane), he and lives a carefree jungle life. As he approaches adulthood, however, he is visited by the spirit of his father, who instructs him to defeat the nefarious Scar and reclaim his rightful throne. Borrowing elements from Hamlet, classical mythology, and African folk tales, The Lion King tells its mythic coming-of-age tale with a combination of spectacular visuals and lively music, featuring light, rhythmic songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, and a score by Hans Zimmer. Embraced by children and adults alike, the film also spawned hit songs ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "The Circle of Life") and a hit Broadway musical. In late 2002, The Lion King was re-released in the large-screen IMAX format. ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

One of my favorite films as a child is now available in 1080p HD and is presented with 7.1 DTS-HD sound! If you have not seen The Lion King before, the story is about a small male cub who, destined to be king, runs away from home after a tragedy occurs, which he believes was caused by himself. He eventually grows up alongside two friends who "show him the ropes" as a child (cub). All is well until an unlikely reunion makes him realize that he has to return to his kingdom, which has almost turned into a barren wasteland during his absence. With his decision to return, he faces a challenge(s) in order to rightfully take his place as the destined and one-true king. Like most other Disney films, the movie is also somewhat of a musical [for the first half]. This set comes with two discs - the Blu-ray disc consisting of the feature film and special features, and a DVD copy consisting of the feature film and only one special feature from the Blu-ray disc. There is a good number of special features including never-before-seen deleted scenes/bloopers, a deleted song, an extended scene, a sing-along mode, an interactive Blu-ray gallery, and more. I really believe that there could have been a little more, even though all of the special features are presented in Blu-ray fashion. Yes, Blu-ray discs can hold a lot of content, but the better the presentation is when there is no loss in either visual nor audio quality due to "space cramming." It's not a 50-GB dual-layered disc, but I doubt all 25 GB were used here.

Since I recently got my blu ray player there are only certain titles I will purchase on blu ray-meaning I can live with DVD Lion King was one title I knew I would get Of course-4 disc set BESIDES HAVING A BLU RAY PLAYER YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SPECIAL ONE & SPECIAL CONNECTION TO SEE THE 3D Nope-don’t think so THEN GO BUY GLASSES Nope Good picture quality on the film of course Extras-now here is where I have a complaint there are several good extras in this package Some were already in the original DVD release OK, they gathered the animators to speak with them Good to see BUT, out of the actors we only get to see Broderick & Lane? Excuse me. Where was James Earl Jones, Oscar winners Whoopi Goldberg & Jeremy Irons? Didn’t speak to Elton John? Only 2 of the actors appeared in this package I was very disappointed with this. A let down to fans Over all except for this 1 problem I was pleased with the package And, of course anytime I can rewatch my favorite scene/line "What Do You Want Me To Do? Dress In Drag & Do The Hula?"

I was buying the lion king for a gift and was only buying it here because of the additional case. Best Buy failed to deliver the service and expectations that I had hoped for. i should of known better because this would be the 3rd time I have purchsed a product from this store and have not been givin all the components of my purchase and then told by a customer service rep that it was my fault for not picking it up when the email said that it was unable to deliver it to that store. I was not compted or tooken care of in an way. The rep sent my request up to the customer service department which is what I thought he was and told me I would hear back in a week. I did not hear back and sent up another email request and still did not hear anything. I just felt like a another number to a big company...for the third time. Either way the product worked well and is what I expected. The extra case which is he reason why I shopped her to ad value to the movie was not provided and I am extremely disappointed in the communication.

The Lion King has its fans and detractors. I fall more to the fan side, but will admit that the Lion King was never on my list of beloved Disney films. The folks at Disney have included plenty of special features, typical of most Diamond/Signature editions of their films. The Steelbook® packaging is a favorite of mine, but the design of this package left me very disappointed. While the anniversary collection from a few years ago is a much better package design, it is hard to put the 'drum' easily on a shelf. I can't imagine a reason why any parent would have issue with this film, and as a beloved classic it will be around for a long time. So if you already own it, I would say give this edition a pass. Unless you want it for the collectable packaging, or the DMA code to add it to you digital library.

Back from the vault, The Lion King returns in a new Signature Edition and it is as good as it ever was. The story, the characters, the music, and the animation make this one of the best animated films of all time. The Blu-ray A/V is amazing. Additionally, a “missing clouds” error from the Diamond Edition has been corrected on this release. This Signature Edition is light on bonus features on the disc, but redemption of the included digital copy through Disney Movies Anywhere (now Movies Anywhere) unlocks all of the bonus features from the previous Platinum Edition DVD and Diamond Edition Blu-ray releases. Another nice extra is the replica film frames included in the package. You just can’t wait to make this film a part of your collection!

Do you like Action? Do you like Drama? Do you like Comedy? Do like family conflict that you thought only Lifetime Movie Network could provide? Well, look no further! If you haven't watched the Lion King yet, I suggest you crawl out of the rock you have been living under since 1994, buy a HUGE Tv & Blu-Ray Player, and pop in The Lion King. Let's bring back the intense Disney dramedy that tells the triumphant story of a boy who's father was murdered by his uncle for greed and inheritance, that will inevitably lead the boy on a path of perseverance, humility, and love. The only thing I would change about this product is they should be sold in a VHS design packaging.

Nothing really to say about The Lion King since it's one of the all time classics. I am a bit disappointed with the overall release -- Disney added a few new bonus features, but either dropped many of the old bonuses from the Platinum and Diamond releases or relegated most of the other extras to Digital Only which defeats much of the purpose of buying the physical disc, and dropped the 3D disc from the prior release. Digital is OK, but since Disney now controls the items and if they decide at some point to remove them then it's no different than paying $30 for a rental. I prefer to own and control what I pay for. The Steelbook is an OK design, but certainly less than stellar artistically

In my opinion this is the best Disney movie of all time. It looks and sounds great on blu-ray. It has a bunch of great special features and the price for a blu-ray and DVD is good. I first saw this movie at 19 on a date and liked it so much I bought it on VHS. I know for the younger generation you are like you bought it on what? But anyway I finally had the chance to upgrade my DVD to a blu-ray. I like the storyline and the music in this movie. I know have 3 daughters that I am able to share this timeless classic with. My 9 and 2 year old watch this at least once a week. They sing along to the movie and watch it so much I am glad that we can finally share a great family film together on blu-ray. Pick up your copy today it is good for kids and adults alike.
