Synopsis

The Matrix
What if virtual reality wasn't just for fun, but was being used to imprison you? That's the dilemma that faces mild-mannered computer jockey Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) in The Matrix. It's the year 1999, and Anderson (hacker alias: Neo) works in a cubicle, manning a computer and doing a little hacking on the side. It's through this latter activity that Thomas makes the acquaintance of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), who has some interesting news for Mr. Anderson -- none of what's going on around him is real. The year is actually closer to 2199, and it seems Thomas, like most people, is a victim of The Matrix, a massive artificial intelligence system that has tapped into people's minds and created the illusion of a real world, while using their brains and bodies for energy, tossing them away like spent batteries when they're through. Morpheus, however, is convinced Neo is "The One" who can crack open The Matrix and bring his people to both physical and psychological freedom. The Matrix is the second feature film from the sibling writer/director team of Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski, who made an impressive debut with the stylish erotic crime thriller Bound. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The Matrix Reloaded
After creating an international sensation with the visually dazzling and intellectually challenging sci-fi blockbuster The Matrix, the Wachowski brothers returned with the first of two projected sequels that pick up where the first film left off. Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) have been summoned by Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) to join him on a voyage to Zion, the last outpost of free human beings on Earth. Neo and Trinity's work together has been complicated by the fact the two are involved in a serious romantic relationship. Upon their arrival in Zion, Morpheus locks horns with rival Commander Lock (Harry J. Lennix) and encounters his old flame Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith). Meanwhile, Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) has returned with some surprises for Neo, most notably the ability to replicate himself as many times as he pleases. Neo makes his way to The Oracle (Gloria Foster), who informs him that if he wishes to save humankind, he must unlock "The Source," which means having to release The Key Maker (Randall Duk Kim) from the clutches of Merovingian (Lambert Wilson). While Merovingian refuses to cooperate, his wife, Persephone (Monica Bellucci), angry at her husband's dalliances with other women, offers to help, but only in exchange for a taste of Neo's affections. With The Keymaker in tow, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus are chased by Merovingian's henchmen: a pair of deadly albino twins (Neil Rayment and Adrian Rayment). Filmed primarily in Australia and California (the extended chase scene was shot on a stretch of highway build specifically for the production outside of San Francisco), The Matrix Reloaded was produced in tandem with the third film in the series, The Matrix Revolutions. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The Matrix Revolutions
Shot back-to-back with The Matrix Reloaded, the third and final installment of Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski's sci-fi action saga picks up where the second film left off. Neo (Keanu Reeves) remains unconscious in the real world, caught in a mysterious subway station that lies between the machine world and the Matrix, and Bane (Ian Bliss) is still a conduit for Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), who continues to grow out of control, threatening to destroy both worlds. Meanwhile, as the sentinels get closer and closer to Zion, the citizens of the earth's last inhabited city prepare for the inevitable onslaught. By bargaining with The Merovingian (Lambert Wilson), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) are able to free Neo who, after meeting with The Oracle (Mary Alice stepping in for the late Gloria Foster), decides that he must leave Zion and head for the machine mainframe. As Neo and Trinity venture into the dangerous machine world, with hopes of stopping both the machines and Agent Smith, their comrades in Zion attempt to fight off the attacking sentinels with the odds stacked greatly against them. Other cast members returning include Monica Bellucci, Ngai Sing, and Harold Perrineau Jr. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

During the following I will intend to describe as best and briefly as possible this collection. I also will mention some differences between this collection and the original releases. Enjoy. The difference between the limited and the unlimited editions are: The Limited Edition comes in a plastic box with trays, a Neo bust and an 80 page booklet that lists the extras of the 10 disks (yes, that's all it does). Besides this the sets are the same. These two sets include all three films, The Animatrix, the film footage shot for Enter the Matrix videogame and 106 documentaries. The bonus disks for Reloaded and Revolutions are different from those included in the versions already released. REMASTERD: The movies were enhanced so the films look brighter in color and richer in details. Don't worry it was not done by Gorge Lucas. The films are the same. AUDIO: Also enhanced (not that it was necessary). Voices are stronger, gentle noises stand out more and details were sweetened just a bit. Great work! DISK 1: The Matrix. The original commentaries, the music only audio track, follow the white rabbit, take the red pills... ALL ARE MISSING in this version. It comes with two commentaries worth listening to, a written intro from the Wachowski bros., and a ROM feature. DISK 2: The Matrix Revisited. It includes the entire contents of the original disk except the fanboy stuff. DISK 3: The Matrix Reloaded. Two new commentaries and a ROM feature. DISK 4: The Matrix Reloaded Revisited. All new stuff such as a 17-min look at the fight in the Merovingian's chateau, 55-min dissection of the car chase, 40-min look at the Neo vs. 100 Smith battle, 7-min segment on Neo vs. Seraph and more. DISK 5: The Matrix Revolutions. Two new commentaries and a ROM feature. DISK 6: The Matrix Revolutions Revisited. Includes a tour of the set, 27-min piece on the Club Hel fight (ceiling walkers), segments on the workers and extras, 17-min profile of Neo vs. Smith final battle, 36-min piece covering the soundtrack, film editing, etc. and more. DISK 7: The Animatrix. Just as we all remember it. DISK 8: The Roots of the Matrix. Two documentaries: 1-Return to Source: The Philosophy of The Matrix: is an hour long discussion on the philosophical elements of the movie. And 2-The Hard Problem: the Science Behind the Fiction is an hour long discussion of the science of the films and its possibilities for a real life Matrix. DISK 9: The Burly Man Chronicles. This is a 94-min featurette documenting the whole 276 day shoot for films 2 and 3. Profiles, interviews, a tribute to Alliyah and more are also found on this disk. Although almost nothing is said about Gloria Foster (the original Oracle). DISK 10: The Zion Archive. Here we find storyboards and concept art for all three films; trailers and music videos for all three films; video effects in various states of completion and a Matrix Online game preview. Overall: Excellent collection and a must for fans. If you are not a hardcore fan though and you like this collection, you may want to purchase the one without Neo's bust. It's cheaper and the booklet is only a guide to the extras on the 10 disks which are all included in both sets. The Wachowskis DO NOT give any commentaries on these disks which may be disappointing for some fans. But over all this is a great collection. You may add it to the ones you already own with confidence. There are more goodies in these disks not mentioned here so have fun exploring. Just follow the white rabbit and remember... there is no spoon.

Good movie, broken case, poor resolution

Love the film series but the product quality was poor. I ordered it online and had it delivered for in-store pick-up at a store I was traveling out of town to. It was a gift for someone, but upon them unwrapping it, we found that the case was cracked in multiple places and nearly broken into two pieces down the middle of the case. Before leaving town, I tried to have the replacement delivered to the gift recipient but the only resolution they had available (within days of the purchase) was that I come to the store to pick it up because they had plenty in-store but none in their online availability.. An unnecessary inconvenience I felt. I hadn't shopped at Best Buy in years; but between the poor product quality and the lack of good, reasonable customer support and service that I've encountered with this purchase, I can't shop at Best Buy with any confidence and will therefore no longer take risks on their merchandise, knowing that if it's faulty, it'll be my loss and their gain - always, whether it's my time or my money.

A Little Green Gem In Your Collection

First of all, a great gem to add to your physical collection of movies, contrary to other reviews I think the packaging is sleek with the holographic cover & the green theme of the movies, a mist have for any collection. Now for the movies, The Matrix is now essentially a period piece (although the setting is in the future), it has a real 90's edge to it, for example the club scene with a Rob Zombie song playing give me a feeling of immersement into the time & place of movie. Classic movie rating scale: 4/4 Stars. The Matrix Reloaded however I believe is even better, lots of action and exposition, drama and love story for your grandma, the best out of the trilogy, 4/4 Stars. The Matrix Revolutions couldn't live up to the true epicness behind its predecessors, but still a great movie, the scene in which the battle begins is breath taking. 4/4 Stars.

You gotta love Best Buy! This is a MUST OWN for Matrix fans who dont wanna break the bank by buying the big box set. This triple feature pack is amazing! At first I thought it would be a bare bones 3 disc set that only included the movies and thats it. But for that great price I said what the heck, your never gonna get blu rays that cheap anyway so I might as well get it. (Prior to this I only had parts 1 and 2 on standard DVD) And I got much more than I expected. Each BD (theres 3 discs) comes with the film AND all the special features! Plus the picture is outstanding. Blacks are more well balanced compared to previous DVD releases. The contrast is pitch perfect. Remember the Matrix films deal with alotta green tones and dark places, and these 1080p presentations handle the color palette with ease. The image quality is awesome and the sound is reference quality as well. Well balanced sound field, with great surround effect and deep bass performance. This is the ONLY WAY to watch the matrix films!

I watched these titles again after a period of maybe 10 years, and they still seem pretty watchable and relevant. The first movie is still the best, as that ended with the possibility that the franchise could go anywhere. The sky was literally the limit. The sequels, however, were constrained in their story telling, and limited Neo's potential to really shape the world as he saw fit. However, the sequels were the logical progression of the machine-Zion war, and thus, in that regard, it succeeds in finding a suitable resolution to the conflict that has raged on for god knows how long. Some of the dialogue seems to be cheesier sounding nowadays, and are written to sound more intelligent than they actually are, but hey, its a movie(s). For Sci-Fi, one really cannot go wrong with this set.

The Matrix trilogy is one of the iconic science fiction film series which every fan should own. This Blu-Ray set is beautifully produced and will bring back to you the amazing experience you felt when you watched the movies the first time at a theater. Crank up the volume on your sound bar, stretch out in your favorite chair in front of your big flat screen TV and be transported into the world of Neo and the Agents. This set is a great value!

My internet service was out for a day, so I decided to go old school and buy a Blu-ray to watch. I decided on The Matrix series, as it is a classic in my mind. In a few more years, no one will know what a hard line is anymore, but despite the dependence on this aging communication vehicle, the plot of this movie is still great. In addition, as I explained to my wife, it is a love story with a sci-fi base. She did not buy that, and I ended up with just me and my popcorn, enjoying this trilogy all over again.

3 Blu-Ray movies for $10, what a deal! What's more I had a $5 coupon from Best Buy, making it an even better deal. So even though I already had the DVD versions of the movies, I couldn't resist this bargain. As far as I can tell, these are the complete versions of the Blu-Ray and include all the special features. When I first picked it up, one of the tabs holding the flap inside was broken, but I was able to exchange it for another copy. All-in-all, I would have to say I'm satisfied with this purchase. (I'm not giving it five stars only because of the broken tab.)
